My main one at the moment is Avril Lavigne (My Happy Ending, Naked and I'm With You). I can't help but find some of her songs quite catchy, i think that she is pretty hot too.
I've been listening to Rod Stewart too (Young Turks and I Don't Wanna Talk About It), i don't think that is as bad as listening to Avril, as Rod is a very proud Scotsman so i can use my Nationality to get out of any mocking for listening to Rod.

Rob Liefeld.
Oh wait, wrong type of artist. And no, I don't REALLY like Rob Liefeld.:p
Anyway, I like Aly and AJ's new song in a fourth-wall breaking way. As someone who hates modern pop music, it's kind of rocky and I love that it's only a potential break-up song because they were told the album needed one and they state as much! Reminds me of the Willie Nelson/Cake song, Sad Songs and Waltzes, about how even though he's telling this girl he hates, she's no need to fear, because no one will here it, because "sad songs and waltzes aren't selling this year."
celine dion's "the power of love" and Culture Club's "Karma Chameleon".

Man I went to the George Michael concert in 1988 at the height of the Faith album!

I'm not ashamed to say it, but I know for sure a lot of you guys will be...
I like the Backstreet Boys cause I sing and I appreciate how their voices sound great as a unit live. I especially like Nick Carter cause he most definitely can sing no matter what everyone thinks...I know cause I've seen it close. His versions for "Just What I Needed - The Cars" and "Heaven - Bryan Adams" are great....both live....and yeah....he's really handsome. :)

Well, I used to be all "I don't like this boy-band stuff", but ...... when you take your time to thiink about it BSB ain't "boy-band stuff" specially their last album... And yes, I'll never admit that I like them as a vocal group to my girlfriend (she will mock me forever if I do). And girly I also like Nick Carter's version of "Just what I needed".
Besides that, I also like ABBA, Celine Dion, the old days Mariah, and Elton John.

That's really manly of you! Actually saying you don't "hate" them for being guys in a band is really nice....yes, Never Gone is a great album and I am kinda glad they're not as "huge" as they used to be...I never cared about that....as long as they're still around. :)
I do like Mariah's old stuff and Celine....well...I don't really know much about her but she can sing...I'll give you that.

I'm not ashamed to admit I like any artist, per se, but I do like a lot of artists that might get me funny looks. I love a lot of J-pop artists, I listen to a couple of Britnet Spears songs, I'm listening to a John Cena track right now. :X
I like Evanesence, Avril Lavigne, Fall Out Boy, The Fray, Rogue Traders, The Scissor Sisters, Al Wilson, Glenn Miller, ELO, Elvis Costello, Dido, DHT, Corner Shop, City High, Billy Joel, Bjork, Apocalypritca, Hinder, Three Doors Down, Nickelback, Rob Dougan, Neil Hannon and the Divine Comedy... I'm just a general sort of music-loving guy. If it's got a beat that I enjoy, I'll listen to it. I don't care who wrote it.
Oh, and I like "Rock Your Body" by Justin Timberlake. And "Holla Back Girl" gets stuck in my head. :X
Also, I'm in love with KT Tunstall and Dolores O'Riordan and Rihanna. :shy:
New Shoes by Paolo Nutini is one of my favorite songs right now.

I am ashamed of nothing I listen to now. That's not to say there aren't a few skeletons in my musical closet, though. I used to listen to Korn a bit, and I actually owned the first Limp Bizkit album (what the hell?). I can't really say I'm that ashamed though, as it was just a phase, and I grew up.

Jeans, you're talking to a guy who still regularly collects action figures and comic books, so I obviously haven't grown up too much. :D
With music though, I do think my maturation process played a big role in what I listen to. The aforementioned examples of LB and Korn represented a time where I listened to stuff because other people (who I thought were cooler than me) listened to it. After about a year, though, I decided that I really didn't like any of it and went back to just being myself and listening to what I really like. I guess everyone sort of goes through that kind of thing, though.

Only thing I ever hated about the BSB is most of their teeny bopper 7 year old tween fans and the fact that for the most part they didn't write their own songs. The ONE fucking Britney Spears song I like, I found out she actually wrote herself, along with the music HERSELF.

Which song is that? I actually don't know that much about Britney's music. Yeah...those BSB fans can be annoying (to say the least)...they (BSB) started getting more involved with writing after the Millennium album....and I wish they'd write more too. What I really like about them is that they actually sing....live that is. I'd hate it if I found out none of them can really sing...which thankfully is not the case.

I'm not ashamed of anything I enjoy, music or otherwise. Though I'm not sure of how to feel about enjoying quite a few classic Ted Nugent knowing he wants to shoot guys like me with his bow & arrow. But I try not to judge what entertains me based on the personal opinions of the artist.

I'm a big Slayer fan, but they're not a racist band at all. If they are, why do they have two Hispanic members, one of whom has a Jewish wife? The accusations of them being racist is just BS stirred up by their detractors.

I like their music as well and I've heard of the racist thing, but I would believe it not true with Tom Araya and Dave Lombardo having Hispanic roots.
But then again, Slash (who is half Black) stood alongside the very racist Axel Rose during the Guns 'N Roses tenure, so who knows?
I still enjoy the music regardless.

I won't let whatever views some of the band members may have detract me from enjoying their music. I very much doubt Slayer has any racist members and the charges of racism are just cheap potshots from their detractors and haters.

Well, you can be Hispanic, jewish, white, back, red and be racist, right? Racism isn't only limited to Caucasians. Yes I know Kerry King is Jewish and Araya is hispanic... I personally don't care what they are. I just heard they were racist since I was a little kid. I just mentioned I don't like mentioning that I like them because people usually associate them with racism. I am not saying they are racists, who knows for real? I just always hear it... and it seems to have unfortunately stuck.
Hell I like Skrewdriver (I don't admit that often), GG Allin, Blue-Eyes Devils and David Allan Coe. All of the above are vocal racists. I like their music because it sounds good... I just won't admit it to most people.
As for the other bands, when you tell most people "I love Green Day" they seem to completely ignore your music taste because people seem to associate mainstream bands like Green Day with "teenie bopper MTV viewers".
Hell, I have a wide range of tastes... I have been really into Woody Guthrie, Waylon Jennings, Brujeria, Einsturzende Neubauten, Roy Orbison, Anthrax, From Autumn To Ashes, Ice Cube and Public Enemy lately.. a lot of those artists you'd have a hard time getting me to admit to (for various reasons).

Slayer being a racist band is something that's been circulating for years, and something I think is complete BS spread around by their detractors. I think anyone regardless of race can be a racist, but I don't think anyone in Slayer is. It's also been circulating for a long time that Pantera's Phil Anselmo is racist because of an anti-racist speech he gave at a show where he condemned rap/hip-hop music and the culture, but that doesn't automatically make him a racist. He made a good point with that speech (I saw it on YouTube).
I too have a pretty wide taste in music. Although I'm primarily a Metalhead, I like quite a bit of Techno and Soul music, and can even enjoy a decent Pop or Rap song if it strolls by.

I've read that Brujeria's lyrics are largely Satanic and about subjects such as death and sensitive political topics like race.

and they are also very anti-American.
I only know them because one of their albums was nominated at the Latin Grammy Awards. Overall, not the type of artist I like/support.

From what I've read about them, they probably aren't a band I'd like from a lyrical standpoint. I don't like racist lyrics like what I've heard they have.
Which brings me to the topic of Body Count's song, Cop Killer. It's offensive as Hell, yet I find it to be a catchy and enjoyable tune.
Ice-T said Cop Killer was a protest song, for everyone that has been harassed by the police.

Yes, but reading the lyrics make it very obvious the song was meant as an attack on police officers in general, corrupt or not. The lyrics make a pretty big generalization of cops, and even if that wasn't the intent, it's easy to see why it was taken as such.
It makes no bones about what it is, the title says it all. But I can understand the anger in the song, especially at the time it was made. Doesn't make it right, but that was the feeling then.

Police brutality is terrible, but to smear all cops that way is wrong. If anything, any corrupt cops don't deserve to be wearing the badge and uniform the good cops wear, the good cops who everyday put their lives at risk to protect us from criminals. The lyrics speak for themselves when you read them.

Doesn't Ice-T play a cop on TV now?
Jigsaw

Yes, on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Pretty ironic.
Funny thing is, he played a cop back then, in New Jack City.

The song is meant to attack corrupt cops, although the way the lyrics are written, it's easy to think it's a smear against all cops because of how generalizing they are. Still a good tune, even if I don't like the message or how it generalizes cops.

dude is a prick, and he dissed some of my favorite MC's (even though Nas slaughtered him) but I end up thinking if I keep listening to him, I might get half of a iota of the brilliant business sense that man has. Dude is a GENIUS in generating money

Toxic by Britney Spears
Christina Aguilera's Back to Basics album

I was going to list Amy Winehouse but that is actually good music so I wouldn't list it as a guilty pleasure. I am sure there are more out there, they just aren't coming to me.

Ashamed eh, ummm, lets see. Nickel Creek,Taylor Swift, and Sara Evans. Ashamed because I always said how much I HATE country music.

I love "The Bloodhound Gang", and it's not something I admit too often. Whenever I tell people that I love BHG they either laugh at me, or walk away. People just know them for that one hit they had in the late 90's "The Bad Touch" but I've been a fan of them since the mid 90's. They've got some really clever songs, and Jimmy Pop has some great flow. And you gotta love a band that encourages you to illegally download there music.

I'm not ashamed of anything I do or like, honestly. I suppose the artists that deviates from my traditional taste the most is Blackmore's Night.
Candice Night is actually capable of fucking singing, unlike almost every other singer on today's market. And she doesn't dress and act like a cheap Boston whore, which I also consider a plus.

Yes, you're welcome dear :p
God I love Candace Night. I hope she'd accept to voice act for me if I ever make an animated series of Ravenwood. :shy:
