Hey all... JP directed me to this board.. I thought you guys were all gone after the Blake Washer board went bye-bye...
Anyway, I just wanted to let everyone know that we are making a new F13 fan film called The Storm. JP and I made Cold Heart Of Crystal Lake back in 2003. I will be returning as Jason :)
JP and I have made over 15 original short films since 2003, some in New England and some in California and we have a DVD out, with 2 more coming.
We are now gonna move on to feature films now with bigger budgets etc etc.. so we thought it would be fun to return to Jason for our last short together. This will be much larger scale than Cold Heart, shot in full 24frame HD on the HVX200 camera, with 2K and 1K lights, rain, fog machines,, and possibly the first fan film with actual nudity!!! (not sure on that.. but first that I know about!)
So check out our myspace with a bunch of our older New England shorts, including Cold Heart and we start shooting the new one on Friday Feb 13th (that was purely by chance..lol)

Wow.. Neither Joe or I had ever seen that review.
Thanks. We try to find all the ones we can.
Cold Heart was our first project together.. and this new one will be our last (low budget short anyway) We have a few 100K-500K features in development, but god knows how long that will take.
I love Cold heart, but its starting to show signs of age..and we have done and learned so much since then. It's time for a new one.

I just give anyone mad props who can shoot and finish any fan film since they can not be sold (which means it's hard to get funding). I was being ambituous and had a 70 minute script written, shot about 30 minutes, an actress quit which means we lost 10 minutes of footage and then we all said "fuck it".
We are going a 20 minute Jason vs Roy short this summer for shits and giggles.
At any rate, I messaged your Myspace about the donation/co-producer thing! Good luck!

Haha yeah... we'll be posting pics of the new mask (by DK) soon.
Not sure if we'll wait for shots of full Jason get-up, or if we'll throw out a few pics of the mask alone. Either way, it won't be long.
This one should be pretty fun! :)
The Cold Heart of Crystal Lake was good. I am typically not big on fan films with all due respect, but TCHOCL was a very good one. Primal Instinct will be a sure viewing once it is released.

Gonna try to have newer concept pictures and all of that by the end of the month.. meanwhile we just got a DP and the cast is pretty much locked. We also are looking at grips, sound crew and effects people.
(The first one was pretty much just Joe, an efx guy and one helper Mike D)
ADDED:
Going to the lake location tomorrow. I will snap some shots.
Joe and the DP will look at the house location Wednesday and see how to set up lights etc.
Getting exciting!

It's actually not raunchy at all. I suppose it could be. But Joe shoots very well and the script kinda just treats it like a BF/GF thing..it just "Is" no one really even talks about it in the story... she just happens to be a lesbian.

The costume will be pretty battered and rough.
The best example I could give would be to mix part 4 with part 7. I don't think there will be any jackets of any kind... not even from cast members. ;)
Jason's body/head will be very 'part 4' though.
We should be getting a pic of the full costume on Friday night... sans headpiece, that is.

We got our first investor payment yesterday, which is pretty cool. We were worried we'd get a lot of people saying that they would invest, and then never actually send the money. So it was a tough line to walk when creating the budget... as in, can I really count on a stranger to contribute as much as he says he will (or any amount of it, at that).
Anyway, it's a relief when people actually do what they say they're gonna do. Hopefully we get a few more... the lighting rental bill alone is enough to make me cry. :)

Yeah, and I am re-writing the script.
Kidding lol.
I have a soft spot for fan films and look forward to them. Some people here know I tried making one, filmed 30 minutes of usable footage (about 7 hours of non-usable, lol) and had a problem with 2 actresses not getting along, they both quit and I said fuck it to re shooting their scenes (about 10 minutes)... they won't allow me to use their footage so I can't even edit together what I have and have it make sense lol. I also spent 350 bucks on it, secured some really fucking nice locations (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fzJfXKxuvf0) and put a lot of pre-production time in... fan films are HARD to do.
So, this is my way to help a fan film vicariously through very good film makers.

Definitly! I think the lesson there, and one I myself have decided to use in future, is to make sure everyones signed a contract before filming. Nothing overtly binding, just making sure that they know and have agreed that you have all rights to use the footage you shoot.
Sucks you had such difficulties though, the passion and desire to make something liek this should be the driving force behind it and people like that just plain suck!

Just out of curiosity, how much does doing a fan film like this cost? I mean, I've been wanting to do a few fan films for a while, and a F13 one has always been at the top of my list. I just want to know how much doing a good-looking, full parts 3-4 era Jason costume would cost me, and some prosthetic limbs (like a severed head or arm or something). Watching well-done fan films, such as Cold Heart, is definitely inspiring. This one sounds like it'll be just as good, too.

Well.. not counting the $3,000 camera which I already owned... Cold Heart cost like $250 'out of pocket' We also already owned some lights. So it was basicly food, efx and stuff like that.
The Storm is somewhere around $1,000 for lights, food, outfits, efx etc. Then we have 2 $5,000 HD camera and the Nikon Prime film lenses which are over a grand.
So if you counted everything rented and owned:
Cold Heart: $3,500
The Storm: $13,000 (roughly)
You can also rent the camera bringing it down a lot... if we RENTED everything for Storm it would probably be $2,500
But even if you cheap it out you cant do much of quality for less than $1,000

Cool, thanks for answering my question! Looks like I'll have to pull some double-shifts to save up. I've been meaning to do a fan film, but have always been put off by thinking about how much doing a full costume and some other efx stuff would cost. I mean, I don't want to have a shitty looking costume. That would kill the project for me if Jason didn't look great.

The charity of like-minded others is something that can help. It certainly did with Lifebringer, I probably spend a total of £150, or $300 on that... but had I paid for everything, taking into account rental costs on cameras and equipment, it probably would have easily reached $1000, probably more. Even the Cenobite was made from an old Edward Scissorhands Halloween costume (real leather jacket cut up, donated by friend and a foam latex front peice and mask donated by an expert who was a fan and loved the script).
The Storm looks amazing beautiful! The image is amazing, HD really makes a difference, alas still out of my league. The light reflecting on the lake looks stunning.

Wow.
Far cry from my fan films- crappy GL2 1600 bucks, medium grade lenses 150 bucks each, things I already owned.
then $350 total for supplies, food, etc and we got 30 minutes shot (65-70 page script), I was expecting to shoot all for $500 but crap adds up fast.
Timberwolf Entertainment
02-12-2009, 09:03 PM
The GL2 is a GREAT camera actually. A bit outdated now.. but in the early 2000s it was one of the best.
Cold heart was shot on that (It cost $2800 in 2002) We also shot Samhain 101 and Shadows Fall on the GL2. Summer's End was shot on the GL1.
While a camera is important, lighting and angles are more important. Samhain 101 and Shadows Fall still impress me with Joe's lighting and our choice of shots...and it was all on the GL2
After that we moved to the DVX100 which had the 24p setting to give the 24 frames a second look and we used that all the way up to 2007 with No Trespassing.
Joe recently got the HVX200 which is basicly the DVX but HD and a few other advancements. Joe shot a drama I directed called One Night with that in standard def, but really outdid himself with his lighting.
Now with F13: The Storm they are using the HVX200 in HD mode with Nikon prime film lenses and true 24frames to create a look even closer to film.

I've been dying to do a decent fan film for some time. I just need a decent amount of money saved up. I really dug the shit out of Cold Heart. Yet another thing I want to add is that I love how you are going for the human Jason look, as opposed to the zombie Jason. Does this have a particular place in the F13 timeline or is it just something that takes place whenever? The Storm questions are more for JP, but I believe we decided that a YOU TUBE / MySpace trailer would be released that directed people to the online HD complete short. (It the full short can't go on You Tube do to the Nudity). The short will be around 13-15min we think.
I'm am a co-producer and I play Jason.. but creatively its more 'his show'.

Hey Timberwolf, I've got a couple of questions for you.
First, what's the premise of FRIDAY THE 13TH: The Storm?
Second, at the risk of sounding like a freak I just have to ask, since the main characters are apparently lesbians is there any chance that we're going to get to see them get naked and get it on?

JP wrote and directed this... I just followed him around and did what he said..lol. Sounds silly but I really focused on playing Jason. He had me watching DVDs and throwing a full size punching bag around the yard to make sure I could handle tossing victims. He was really that serious about this. I also helped get actors and make sure the location and stuff was in order in a producer capacity.
However, He can tell you better about the official synopisis.. more or less Jason sees a girl at the lake and follows her home.
There is a skinny dip scene. I think originally he had both girls naked making out on the beach, but I think he felt for 15min short it was a bit much. Joe is developing a rather large scale feature film called Live Bait.. I'm sure he will get more girl on girl in that! :)
But yes.. there is nudity in this tribute film.

I really love playing the part. Gets out a lot of anger...lol.
Jason himself in "The Storm" is a weird mix of Kane Hodder, Richard Brooker and Ted White.. or better yet, living Jason if Kane played him. Joe wanted to go for the living Jason... but like me his favorite incarnation is Kane Hodder. So he is wearing the green shirt from part 3,4 (though it looks grey like part 9 in some shots) The shirt is tucked in and has a belt like part 9. He has the head and mask of part 4, but the gloves of part 8 (We also had part 6 gloves, but they seemed too yellow for the look of this film). So he really is a mix of many looks.
As far as performance I went for mostly Hodder with some of the fury and speed of Brooker's anger. A bit of Mears may have creeped in since I saw the remake that morning before the shoot :)
Anyway.. kinda like the remake Jason is kinda like folklore now, and timeline and stuff like that is unimportant as far as the short goes. Jason just IS.

I'm letting our DP color-correct on his own... he'll then send me the video files (I already have the raw ones). He wants about a month to get them all done, so I won't even begin doing any real editing till then. I have thrown a bunch of key sequences together though, and so far, so good. :)

BTW... on top of not being color-corrected yet, the wide bars are a bit too wide, believe it or not. Adobe Premiere CS3 didn't have a 2.40:1 matte setting, just a simple default 'wide bar matte'.
Well, I did some math (as much as it hurt my head)... and the aspect ratio of the stills we've been putting out are about 2:75:1! I could start a new trend of super-wide aspect ratios. ;)
Anyway, it's been fixed and any future stills will be more 'open'. But don't fear, the newer ones will actually be 2:40 (or much closer to it then we are now).

I have a few m ore shots that I will be posting first thing next week (plus the old ones with the proper aspect ratio)
I also I have begun looking for a composer who can deliver a "Harryesque" original score.
Cold Heart had mostly existing F13 music lifted from TFC and JGTH. But it did have a Part 6 score 'remix' for the chase scene and a new rendition of "Sail Away" by composser David Clausson, who scored my microbudget slasher movie "Summer's End: The Legend Of Samhain"
For this JP and I feel its best to have a new score made for the film.. but hopefully by a fan of Harry's work who can deliver a similar feel.

Stills look good. Can't wait to see Jason in action. I'm curious as to how he is played.
The best way I can explain how I THINK I played him.. as I have not really seen it, is a cross between Brooker and Hodder.
Hodder is both JP and I's favorite and JP was really involved with how I played him. I was directed to have great bursts of raw strength and anger like Hodder and real emotion behind the mask. Plus since he is the 'living' Jason this time (The last time I did it in Cold heart he was 'undead') We added a bit more animal and bursts of speed and almost impatience like Brooker. No real running though.
Jason look is a mix of 4 (mask/headpiece),8 (gloves),and 9 (worn shirt/belt/pants). I was in fact wearing a green part 3/4 shirt, but with the lighting, wear and tear and the darkness I think it looks more like JGTH

Joe and the DP Ryan O'Hara are editing... so I don't know the details.. BUT
It is being color corrected in Final Cut by the DP and being edited in Adobe Premiere Cs4 (I think)
It was shot on the HVX200 in full HD 16x9, but the on set monitor was taped to 2.35:1 so widescreen bars were added.
Also, the HVX was rigged with a prime lens converter and used Nikon Prime film lenses to achive that look and DOF.
On set we had a variety of lights including 650Ks, 1000ks and 2000ks. All sorts of refectors, and other shit , that to be honest, don't even know what it is :)

Yeah... I'm giving the DP a shot to CC in Apple Color, so we'll see how that goes. These stills are completely untouched (other then adding the widescreen mattes). I'll be editing in CS3.
Though Tim means well, we didn't have any 650,000w... 1,000,000w or 2,000,000w lights... but we did have more reasonable wattage setups. ;)
I forgot to mention in the post with the pics... the low angle shot of JV looks super-bright because its taken during a lightning hit.

I'm not much interested in color correcting, to be completely honest with you (which is why I said 'go for it' when the DP asked if he could CC the footage himself).
It's all in your personal preference. You can ask 10 people what software is better, and you'll get 5 different answers. It all really depends on what project you're working on (do you need it to be comfortable for just you, or do you need to network between different departments). If its just you, then go with what you're most comfortable with.

Tough to say, DiMidio...
The editing process is on hold while I allow the DP to color correct the raw footage.. this should be finished in the next 30 days, at the very latest.
Then the whole process of cutting, sound editing, music composition, etc will take place... so it could take a little while.
My general guess is late May, early June.

Fantastic! When are we gonna see a trailer/teaser? Will there be one?
You know I'm not sure... I think he may just skip the bullshit and put it out.
My guess would be this.. and its only a guess.
If he has to wait to get it scored (We have a very good composer that does our original stuff) He may decide to do a teaser while its being scored.
But if we score it (I recently got a hold of Harry's score tapes of parts 1 thru 4) Then he may just put it out and not make people wait. It is a 'short' so a trailer may kinda be pointless. Except, since it has nudity and it is very High Quality HD, we really can't put it on You Tube, so we may need to have a trailer ON You Tube to point people to our more advanced Vimeo HD player.
Anyway, JP should be on today with answers. I honestly have no idea. I know he just cut two scenes in the last day or two.

I just got a decent cut together of 3 sequential dialogue scenes. I took a few months off from editing to allow our DP to color correct... and to get situated in my new house. :)
I already did rough cuts on a lot of the action back when we first finished shooting... so it's coming together nicely now.
Not sure about a teaser or not... but it definitely won't be done until the short's final cut is complete, and the music is in as well. Don't want to worry about trailer stuff till we're just about done with it. Tim's right... it's not really gonna be a teaser to get anyone excited that already knows about the short... it'll be done after the fact to put up on places like youtube and junk.
The final cut SHOULD be done by the end of this month... hopefully music will be in there by then too, but I wouldn't count on it. We have more color correction to do, and that could take awhile due to scheduling... but I won't let it hold the project up too long.
I'll try to find a few decent screen grabs to post up too... they'll be from dialogue scenes, so it won't be anything to blow you guys away. Gotta keep some of the good stuff a surprise. :)

So the video edit is complete, color correcting is done, as is the original music.
The sound effects editing is about 90% done...
The only negative news is that I picked up a 3 week marathon gig that requires me to work 3 weeks of 12 hour days, 7 days a week, shooting and editing Tennis matches/tutorials for a former pro player.
So... if the short is delayed, that's the reason. I'm gonna try my best to get the damn sound fx done by the 13th so we get this fucker online... but 12 hour days make it tough to do when I also have an 18 month old running around the house.

Holy shit, dude. That was fucking awesome! That is, by far, the most professional looking fan film I have seen. However, the only problem I had with it was that I found it really hard to hear the dialogue. I'm not sure how to fix that problem. The music and everything was find, but when everyone spoke, I had such a difficult time hearing it. Is there a way to fix that little issue? I'm sure it's a problem on my end, right?

JP can take a look at it. It could be your sound set up, but who knows. We are only releasing it to friends and a couple of message boards right now to feel it out, on Monday we go wide with news sites and other places. So if there are any major issues he can take another pass. I know we MAY have (if you can believe it) a even higher bitrate coming.

The audio problem may be a combo of both your setup and the movie --- I hate audio editing/mixing, but it sounds fine on my laptop, headphones, and home theater speakers... I'm sure it could be improved a bit (I plan to do small fixes/tweaks and update the file at vimeo eventually), but I haven't heard that complaint yet from anyone else.

Yeah, I figured that it was a problem on my end. I haven't tried headphones, but I bet that will solve it right there. Damn, I need some good speakers for my computer. I have to say, though, good job fellas. You have a contender for best Friday fan film. It's in close competition with Cold Heart, haha. However, this, without a doubt, looks the absolute best of any fan film for any character. What camera did you guys use again? I'm seriously in the process of compiling a list of cameras, and what I'm looking for is something that would capture the look of film the best. I have to say, I was very pleased with how this film turned out.
Also, was the score done entirely on a computer? Keyboard? I'm curious about that aspect, since I don't know too much about scoring for films. I very much enjoyed the score to this film. It reminded me of nice cross between Jablonsky's score for the remake, and Manfredini's score to Jason Goes To Hell.

Hey guys, I just wanted to run something by you and see what you think.
What do you think of the idea of having Jason wear the work shirt unbuttoned and not tucked into his pants, with a dirty white or grey undershirt underneath? Somebody drew a picture like that once and it was awesome.
Maybe Timberwolf could model that look sometime, so we can see how it looks on an actual person.

Well, after two days we have hit 377 views on the short film during its little practice run.. I just wanted to jump in and say thanks for the emails, comments and support for this project for our little two day 'roll out'.
On Monday we start hitting the bigger news sites like BD and Arrow In The Head and stuff like that.
Also, we added a You Tube 'trailer' page which you can comment and rate on the actual full short. The Vimeo server for the short was needed for both the higher quality, but also the nudity not allowed on You Tube. The downfall to that is you can't comment on Vimeo unless you have an account (same with You Tube I guess.. but who doesn't have a You Tube account..lol) Anyway, with You Tube we now have feedback options and a wider reach as You Tube is like the 4th most visited site on the web or something.

And the full short if you have not seen it:

Brilliant work guys, a stunning looking film, and well paced short. The music was superb and the opening sequence could not have been better. The apperance of Jason worked very well, having the character suddenly appear and have her neck snapped was effective, in the horror as she sees her date drive off. I wil lsay, I found some of the editing towards the end a little confusing, Jason seemed to grab and release Sarah a couple of times, and I wasn't quite sure who he was reacting to. Perhaps the guy who coems to check on them should have worn something to better distinguish them from Barry?. Anyway, wanted to offr soem constructive thoughts there, overall, I loved it and in terms of the look, it was gorgous, and the acting was all good. Great work, and easily the best F13th fan film, topping Cold Heart.

FANTASTIC work. Loved it. Great early Friday feel, great Jason, and it looked beautiful. I will agree with some of the sound editing being a little off. But no gripe at all other than that.
I'm not gonna lie, i get a lot of my inspiration from fanfilms. If a fanfilm can look professional and be made for nothing, then surely I can do the same for a professional work.
Though the film I'm in development on right now is indeed a fan film.
Oh, and I'll also agree that I think this topped Cold Heart of Crystal Lake, which I also loved.

I watched the film on Saturday and I thought it was quite good. There were a few things that I would have done differently, but then again there always seem to be one or two things that I'd do differently with any film I see, no matter how good they are.
I hope you guys will get to make another F13 fanfilm some day. You should concider trying to make it longer next time, like maybe 30 minutes instead of 14-15. Granted, that may require more money, but then again you don't have to do it right away. You can get to it when you feel you're able, and you can take your time planning it before you start.

Most likely will won't be making another fan film. You never know I guess, but this one was kinda designed to show what JP could do.. an advanced reel if you will. The first short film we ever made together was Cold Heart of Crystal Lake in 2003, and The Storm in 2009 will most likely be the last one. In between JP directed 5 original shorts, 4 of which are available on DVD.
Friday the 13th was chosen basicly cause we love the series, and it would have the most exposure online as opposed to a original short. I think originally, if I remember JP wanted to do short 'webisodes' featuring Jason and vicitms to highlight his shooting and the kills. Like just random 'kill' webisodes and stuff like that, but somehow it developed into "The Storm"
Currently we are prepping JP's first feature film which will be an original work based on his short film "Snuff" from 2005 co-written by the boards own David Dunwoody and Gene Mazza. That will run festivals and be released on DVD.
The thing about fan films is when you get the money to produce something bigger... it doesn't make much sense to do a fan film. "The Storm" kinda marks the end of an era for us, and its a good way to finish off doing short films.
BTW.. Storm just hit 871 views!!

It looks pretty good and very professional. What I'd love to see is Friday The 13th: The Obsession finally be made. I remember reading that script back in high school and it blew me away. That Sean kid getting all Jason'd up and killing his jailbait ex, his traitor best friend that works at the video store, and that drug dealer Kane. That would make one hell of a movie. I'm an actor building a resume, and I'd so be in that. I'd be all over that Sean transformation.

Friday The 13th: The Obsession has been biting at my heels since it was shot the first time in 1997-8 on VHS (remember that)
Back in 2006 I started to shoot it again as "Phantom Obsession" same story, only with a slasher Phantom Of The Opera instead of Jason (the Phantom is public domain as a concept as long as you don;t steal from the musical or more recent versions etc)... we shot much of it, but the cast didn't cut it and the Phantom never really worked, it was written for Jason, so only he really works.
But as I said in my last post, now that we have the knowledge and hopefully soon the investors to make bigger projects... doing fan films kinda defeats the purpose.
JP has two great original horror concepts he is working on, so "The Storm" made sense because it was a way he could show off his skills, and because its Jason a lot of people would watch it and hopefully we can get the right people to back those original projects.
They say you shouldn't make your first script, so I'm thinking maybe I should let Obsession go. I did recently re-write it to my own 'slasher' killer "Samhain Jack" from a microbudget horror I made in 2002... but i don't know. I love the story, at the same time it may be best to move on.
I could make the film now with my own character instead of Jason, much bigger budget and even get disribution, but it just won't be the same without "Jason". OR I could make it for online with Jason, and spend a shiload of time and money on something that in the end is just a fan film and can only go so far.
However, you CAN actually see the two trailers from the original VHS version I shot with my friends in 1997-8. Forgive the poor quality and cheesy acting (They were my friends from work at the time not actors..lol) but this is the the only stuff left from the old film. The original VHS raw tapes were thrown away a few years back when bro cleaned out my old house in Rhode Island. The trailers were saved by F13 board member Lammert. I no longer have them.

Well if I were to make it now with all I've learned and the equipment and resorces I have it would look very different. It was shot on VHS with my friends, so its pretty cheesy (and over 12 years old.. the lead works in a Laserdisc store..lol) but for whatever reason people still love those..some of those comments are only two months old.asking to see the whole thing...lol. People just love fan stuff, even as old and no budget and old as that.

Yeah, judging from the excellent work on The Storm, I'd imagine with the scoring and color correction, it would look a lot different. I always imagined in that scene where Kane leaves his boys with Sean to rough him up and he lets Jason take control and drives the one guy's nose up into his noggin, that it would be like a really boiled up George McFly punching Biff / Fly II Martin Brundle punching the Bartok security guard style. Hell, I'd direct that script in a heartbeat. I can understand from a business point of view that fan films are wasting the budget when original moneymakers are a better horizon, but that's one that would rock the horror community.

Yea.. I know its a great concept. It's why I have reworked it twice. "The Phantom" version was a mistake for many reasons (though JP shot it VERY well, he was the DP), but using "Samhain Jack" instead of Jason works cause he was just a Jason/Myers clone anyway.. so he fit the plot better. Still it loses a bit without Jason.
We have so much on our plate I can't see me making a fanfilm.. but the "Jack" version is a possibility. However, if you think you could pull it together, I would consider someone else making it... if you don't mind the Samhain version being made later..lol.

Hell, I wouldn't mind at all. I've got a college senior colloquium project coming in 2010 and I'm adamant about doing a really slam bang movie to use as an entry into the NYU film program. I started wanting to do an adaptation of John Gardner's James Bond novel Nobody Lives Forever, but due to some location securing problems, I've thought about doing this Friday film script that I've had on the backburner since I was a junior in high school. Either or would make a fine colloquium piece for me. The Obsession wouldn't involve explosions, at least.

Cool.. if you want to do it..it is more feseable on limited budget. Hell I did it for nothing on VHS and it still looks 'ok'
If you really want to do it, you got it. Id like to see it made. Let me do a polish on it to either make it shorter, or utilize your locations.
You need a campground, a video store (or bar- the Phantom version they were older and worked at a bar) and a few houses... thats really it. Hit Dekid up for masks. You need one 'movie' Jason and one nice clean new mask. The biggest thing stopping me from doing it here is the camp.. at home in New England I could get one for free or very cheap.. here in LA its a bitch. The opening of The Storm was a pain in the balls just to have a lake.
Anyway, if you want to do it.. start a new thread so we can give JP his thread back. :D

If you ever need a camp to film at the easiest and cheapest would be to rent a cabin in a state park. Do it in the slow season and make sure it's adjacent to other cabins and film. Some state parks have many empty cabins in the slow season so other people wouldn't be a huge problem.

Oh yea... JP and I are prepping his first feature and we are renting a cabin in Big Bear CA. It's about $700 for the week which is not bad.
But I was talking about fan film purposes.. in Rhode Island I had free access for woods in 3 different locations. Even my house had woods in the backyard.
But CA is a bitch, it was very hard to shoot Storm. That lake we shot on the rangers came and asked us for a permit and wanted us to pay for a lifeguard if we went inthe water. They want a permit and money no matter where you shoot near LA. Technically you need a permit for your own house. But I never get called on that. I could never make F13: Obsession here, it would cost far too much for a fan film. The Storm only shot one weekend at cost almost 2K (not counting the HD camera and editing stuff which we own)

I guess New York City is trying to pass the same permit laws because of all of the people filming down the main streets of NYC. Another illegal way would be to film at a closed down summer camp. This would just be exteriors, of course.
