Why put the remake in the poll when its not even out yet?

Anyway, I think the original Halloween is best, but Halloween 4 is my favorite.

I voted Halloween II. Possibly one of the greatest horror sequels ever made. The continuity here was flawless, the deaths were all improved, the body count was upped a notch, and the finale was fantastic. Plus Dick Warlock's shape was possible the creepiest Myers of them all. A close second for me is Halloween III. Now there's the best finale in the entire series.

H6 over H20?

Here we go again. I don't care about critics, because they don't understand the horror genre. H6 will always be lightyears over H20 in my book.

Halloween II is getting harder and harder for me to sit through. These days I would prefer Halloween 3 as the best sequel.

I agree. Halloween II bugs me so much now. Everytime I watch it, the ratings drop. There was, like, 12 people at this bonfire I went to, and they told me to bring movies (cuz they knew I was into horror). So Sarah picks out Halloween II, and right then, I was ify. We stopped once the cop got killed. Not because the movie was boring as hell, but because there was way too many people to have a movie. But I did tell them that they mssed a scalding lady, and they said, awww. :D

Of course it's my favorite. I could watch H2 for the atmosphere and the dread alone. Seriously. After a few viewings, you lose some of that, but I do like the feeling that Michael could come from anywhere down those dark corridors to pick off a nurse.

I was actually talking to A. Remin'.

Regardless, I was only joking with him, but my post was edited to make it look like I was being serious when I was in fact kidding.

Now that you mention it, the critics gave your three favorite horror films; Friday the 13th a 76%, Halloween a 100%, and A Nightmare On Elm Street a 90%. I think they understand much of the genre quite well, unless you disagree with those ratings. ;) You can't tell me that if you and I became professional critics, our understanding of the horror genre would erase, can you? Not that I brought critics even into the conversation or anything, because like I said, I was joking around with Andy.

Halloween II (and 4 and H20) are lightyears over H3, in my opinion.

I hate H20 as much as the next guy, Tally, but it is way better than 8. Of all the sequels in all the major horror franchises, my money is on Halloween 8 to be the worst of them all.

However, if the internet stuff in the movie would have taken place in the F13 chat room, it's have been much more entertaining. ;)

You'll note I ranked 5 ahead of 2 but this does not mean I approve of the goofy sound effects when the cops appeared or the super-annoying Tina. (She drove me nuts!)

I have never seen the producers cut of 6 though I'd very much like to. Any chance it'll ever get an official release in the U.S.?

As for the new ones, I thought the final act of H20 was good but (like many of you) didn't like the way the movie forgot about the ones that came before it. And H8 had some good ideas but a terrible, lackluster ending.

Have not seen the new RZ version yet but fan reviews haven't given me much to hope for.

Halloween 4:The Return of Micheal Myers is my favorite of the series. I had originally about ten years ago planned to watch the whole series from start to finish(1 to 6 at the time.) So on a cold, rainy weekend in January, I rented the first flick, and I found John Carpenter's classic,........boring. After watching body count flicks like the Friday The 13th series this flick seemd rather dull. Also I was a fan of the show Millenium at the time, which featured a different serial killler a week. So it seemed that Halloween was basically a retread, at least to me at the time, of all this material. Although since then my opinion of the original has gone up after repeated viewings.

Anywho, back to my choice. The Return of Micheal Myers remains my favorite due to having some my favorite characters introduced to the franchise(who have been unfortunatly been tossed to the wayside thanks to some that I'll gripe about elsewhere:mad:). Jamie Lloyd, Rachel Corruthers, Earl, and the tough as nails Sheriff Ben Meeker. The flick has a wonderful Halloween atmosphere from the opening credits at the deserted farm ,which I was a disapointed to not to see anywhere else in the flick, and the homemade Halloween decor. Combine that with Alan Haworth's top notch score, you have one hellacool horror flick.

Halloween II - I love this movie...I guess if I have anything to complain about, Dean Cundey's cinematography isn't as good as it was in the original.

Halloween - Classic but I can get more entertainment value out of II.

Halloween: H2O - I don't give two shits about any of the continuity issues, because I happen to like this film a lot, in spite of some flaws.

RZH - There is some stupid shit in here, I will say that, but I think there were a lot of good elements that cut through it, like the cast. Oh, and no matter how many times I hear this, I will never think that Re-Michael is merely a weird, troubled bastard with a mental state gone awry and a tolerance for bullets.

Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers - Weird...but good direction and cinematography.

Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers - I like it more than I used to, but most of the characters are a big pain in the ass(I would go so far to say that Rachel is no less irritating than Tina) and George P. Wilbur isn't so good as Myers. Again, good atmosphere.

Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers - This film just fucking self-destructs at the end, regardless of which cut it is.

Halloween III: Season of the Witch - Meh...I dunno why I'm not ranking this one higher. It has its moments.

Halloween: Resurrection - This does too, but I know why it's not higher on my list. It's just moronic. Funny, though, especially the end.

This is a close call for me..

I think the original 1978 Halloween takes it because of its classic status and what it did for horror. Still pretty eerie to this day as well. Pleasence rules.

BUT.. I enjoy RZ's Halloween more right now.. mostly I think cause it's new and different, and a very powerful and entertaining horror film. It has its flaws and is a bit uneven. But it ends up being stronger and greater than the sum of its parts. Great film. I have seen it over 10 times in the year or so its been out. Thats a lot for me..

I don't really watch the original anymore.. and while its a tad boring to me now having grown up watching it a lot... that doesn't tarnish it from being pretty flawless for what it is and takes the 'best' title. After all I did watch it so many times to make it boring! LOL

The rest of the sequels don't really add up to much. Halloween 4 and 2 are good and it goes downhill from there. I haven't seen any of them in anywhere from 6 to 15 years depending on the film. The Halloween series was always a let down to me..and I usually liked them on the first viewing (even H8!) they just don't hold up after the intial "Myers is Back!" Feeling wears off. Halloween 6 I hated on first viewing though.. and I watched it and the producers cut a couple more times and tried to enjoy..but it just got worse and worse. Halloween 4 is a pretty strong film, and while I don't own it.. if it was on TV I would watch it.

Updating from last time...

1. Halloween 4 - Got me into the series. An overall well done sequel with the best Myers mask, yes I went there.
2. Halloween - No need to explain this.
3. Halloween 2 - Dick Warlock's robotic portrayal of Myers is my favourite Myers. The hospital setting was a nice touch as well.
4. Halloween 5 - A dull 2nd act, but the 1st and 3rd act of the film have some of the most suspenseful scenes in the series.
5. Halloween H20 - It was tough one between this and H6. H20 is a decent late 90's slasher but it lacks the feel of a Halloween film.
6. Halloween 6 - Has the feel of a Halloween film and having Donald Pleasence and Paul Rudd is a plus. I'm not too big of a Thorn fan however.
7. Halloween Resurrection - The plot and Busta Rhymes didn't bother me too much. However the mask looked and the heroine was the least memorable in the series.
8. Halloween 3 - Okay film, not really my type of movie though.

The list stops here.:D

Halloween (1978) - Not much needs to be said. I mean, this is the greatest horror movie of all time. Not one horror film I've seen has surpassed this film. This film is full of great performances, the scares were effective, and it had a good enough story that didn't need to revolve around a high body count. Not to mention that it didn't have a cliche story tacked on to it. Sure, I love the family angle, but I enjoy the idea of an escaped mental patient killing off teens he doesn't know a lot more, simply because it could happen anywhere & to anyone. He didn't have a motive for killing these people, he just did it because he wanted to. Not to mention Donald Pleasence's performance as Dr. Loomis is the most entertaining of the bunch. I love the fact that he essentially describes Myers as being the Devil, and in a sense, there's a creepy presence to Loomis as well. Again, this movie is just a pure classic, and it'll always hold up.

Rob Zombie's Halloween 2 - Doesn't come close to surpassing the original (just as none of the other films does) but I think it did a good job as being as original as it could be regarding this series. I liked the fact that we got to see a little bit into Michael's mind, just to get an idea of how disturbed he really is, so I commend Zombie for adding the angle with the visions into the film. Without a doubt, I'd say this is probably the most badass Michael has ever been. He was just outright nasty with his kills, and didn't have mercy on anyone. I was also happy with the way Laurie was handled. Even though she acted like a spoiled brat towards everyone, I can't help but see that as being fairly realistic considering a lot of people that have gone through traumatic experiences have handled it that way. The movie gets a lot of hate, but I'd like to think that in due time people will warm up to the movie more.

Halloween 4 - Always loved this film, specifically because of Danielle Harris as Jamie Lloyd. She's just adorable in the role, and her performance is almost like lightning in a bottle. Very few child performances I've seen have been unable to keep me from cringing most of the time.

Halloween II - Probably one of the best horror sequels out there. I love the atmosphere of it, and the fact that it's set in a hospital. It's just an eerie location for the victims to be, and the film is very effective. Sure, it has a ton of gore in it opposed to the original, but I didn't mind the added gore. I also liked that the mask from the original was used, as that's, without a doubt, the best mask of the series.

Rob Zombie's Halloween - Thoroughly enjoyed the remake, and whereas it's a gripe with most people, I liked the fact that it was different from the original, because I feel that with any remake it's rather pointless to make it exactly the same. For good or bad, it should be changed up a little. I enjoyed Daeg's performance as young Michael, and felt it had a lot of emotion to it. It comes as no surprise but I prefer Scout Taylor Compton as Laurie Strode, and of course, Tyler Mane as Michael Myers is my favorite of them all.

Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers - I've grown to really love part six, especially with Paul Rudd being apart of the cast. I hated the fact that Jamie Lloyd got such a lame death, in which Danielle Harris was no longer in the role, but I felt that Marianne Hagen's character was that of a competent one, and so I did enjoy her role. The kills were pretty damn good, but one other thing that irks me to no end is the lack of screentime for Loomis, and the fact that the story was practically all over the place.

Halloween: H20 - Even though it completely ignored H4-H6, I thought this was a fairly good addition to the series. My only gripe, which is shared with many people, is that it felt a lot like a Scream movie. It didn't exactly have the atmosphere it should of had for a movie in this franchise. All in all, I thought it was good, but I was kind of expecting more from the kills as well as the final showdown between Laurie & Michael. It could've been a lot more epic than it was.

Halloween III: Season of the Witch - Even with this being a Myers-less film, it's still pretty damn good for a horror film. I liked the plot, and I think it's very underrated. Hell, the movie has Tom Atkins in it. That alone should make it worth viewing. In the end, it probably should've just been released as a horror movie all on it's own & not apart of the actual franchise. After two movies, it stands to reason that people would be pissed that Michael was gone from the series.

Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers - This one has a lot more bad in it than good, but it's a guilty pleasure for me, and I just see it as being mindless entertainment. Donald Pleasence & Danielle Harris are enough to make me want to watch this movie. I also thought Don Shanks was pretty good as Myers. Didn't mind the kills, but damn, there's practically no one to root for aside from the obvious two (and Meeker, who has a significant reduction of screentime). Everyone else is annoying, and & are pretty much faceless characters that have no reason to be rooted for.

Halloween: Resurrection - Without a doubt the worst of the series. The only things about this movie I enjoy are Brad Loree as Michael (wish he'd have been in H20, which is the better movie of the two), Busta Rhymes (I'm a big fan), & the character of Sara Moyer. As terrible as this movie is, I could at least get behind Sara Moyer's character & root for her to survive. I hated the fact that they made Busta Rhymes character pull martial arts moves out of his ass from simply watching a movie, in which case I think Busta would've done better if he had better material to work with in the first place. I also thought that they pretty much made Laurie's character into an idiot, considering how she dies & all.

You placed the original after H5 & H4 after HR?

Dude, you placed RZ's H2 at the number two spot. There shall be no pointing fingers, hehe.

While the original Halloween is better than H5, I enjoy it more and choose it as a favorite. But the films switch for me on a monthly basis so it's not really complete. As for H4 and HR...obviously one is ridiculous, but I have more fun with HR than Mr. Coma: The Return of Michael Myers. Never got the love for that one. Of course, I never got the love for the original either. Contrary to popular belief I don't think Halloween '78 is God's golden gift to horror...or thrillers/slashers for that matter.

Yeah, but RZH2 is far, far, far better than H5 & HR. ;)

To me, the original franchise ended at part 6. Every year on Halloween, I find myself watching parts 4 & 5 more than part 1.

1. Halloween 4
2. Halloween 5
3. Halloween
4. Halloween II
5. Halloween 6
6. Halloween III

Halloween 6 (producer's cut)
Halloween : Ressurection

I listed the producers cut because honestly, I never watch the T-Cut and don't even remember the last time I saw it.

I refuse to rate Rob's shitfests. They might as well not even exist, I never watch them shits. Well, aside from the kitchen scene in the remake. Shit is hilarity. "I might just purge my snork all over them flappy tits" or something like that.

Kudos to that! haha, and I like your rankings. However, I sadly haven't seen the P-Cut of H6 yet. :(

Edit: I almost forgot I posted in this thread three years ago... apparently my opinions haven't changed. :)

How do people not count certain films as part of the franchise, yet count Halloween III, which really truly isn't part of the franchise. It happens all the time...

Anywho. Here's my ranking: I'm not sure it's ever changed...

1. Halloween (1978)
2. Halloween II (1981)
3. Halloween: H20
4. Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers
5. Rob Zombie's Halloween (2007)
6. Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers
7. Rob Zombie's Halloween II (2009)
8. Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers
9. Halloween: Resurrection
10. Halloween III: Season of the Witch

And sorry folks, I still don't buy the "it was a good film on its own" argument. Not even the glory of Atkins could salvage this one. Though asking the girl how old she was AFTER he slept with her was badassery I wish he had brought to the rest of the movie.

Thought there was another thread for this that I was subscribed to... apparently not.

My order:

1) Halloween
2) Halloween 2
3) Halloween 6
4) Halloween 5
5) Halloween 4
6) H20
7) RZ Halloween
8) Halloween 8
9) RZ Halloween 2

I go back and forth between 1 and 2 being my top choice. I guess it'd be safer to say they're tired for first.

It's best to avoid it. And since we both have good taste in movies, you should trust me on this. I only watched it so I could legitimately bash it since I knew it was going to suck ass and wanted to it at least see the movie to do so. I did think it was going to be better than Zombieween but boy was I wrong there. Visually, it was but that's really it. Script and acting-wise...nope. Epic fail.

Haha, i'm not surprised about it sucking. :p I only saw the original just out of curiosity. I figured it was going to be bad, but being such a huge fan of the original, I figured what the hell. I'm definitely going to avoid 2, however.

My two favorite Halloween movies are Halloween 6 and Halloween: Resurrection (don't shoot me!). If I could give them each a rating out of ten points it would look something like this:

Halloween - 8/10
Halloween II - 8/10
Halloween III: Season of the Witch - 8/10
Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers - 9/10
Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers - 8/10
Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers - 9.5/10
Halloween H20: Twenty Years Later - 7/10
Halloween: Resurrection - 9.5/10
Halloween (2007) - 6.5/10
Halloween II (2009) - 6/10

Some of you guys may be disturbed by my ratings but this is just how I see each of the movies so I apologize for that.

Watching HR as of late, I'd actually say it has a few redeeming qualities. I did somewhat like the beginning with Jamie Lee Curtis, & I thought Brad Loree was great as Michael Myers. But this film mostly seemed to suffer from poor directing.

I'm a big Busta Rhymes fan, so maybe I'm just biased. :X

And something I find tremendously funny is that people give Rob Zombie a lot of shit for bringing a more F13th-esque vibe to the Halloween franchise, but to this day, I believe H5 has the most F13th-esque vibe to it than any other Halloween film.

At some points, I felt like Don Shanks was a lot more zombie Jason with his portrayal as opposed to having the characteristics Michael should have.

Looking at all of the films, I'd also say that Don Shanks is at the bottom of the totem pole as far as performances go. I did like him, but I felt that he was very much hurt by a shit script & a director who was beyond awful.

I've been meaning to post my thoughts right here, posting my rankings in descending order.

8. Halloween 3 - 1/2*
Sorry to those who like this, but the poor pacing and overall dullness of the film failed to capture my enthusiasm.
7. Halloween: Resurrection - *
I've only seen this film one time in my life, and it'll probably stay this way. Overall just a mediocre slasher with nothing memorable, although I didn't mind Busta Rhymes as much as everyone else seems to.
6. Halloween 6 - *1/2
This film would probably be higher if I were talking about the producer cuts, I wasn't a fan of the theatrical cuts that pretty much rehashed the showdown from Halloween 5 and such. And while the script has some interesting bits, it seems for each interesting themes that there is something that I do not care about in this film. Still this is probably the last Halloween film that actually felt like a Halloween film, not to mention the last Halloween film with Donald Pleasence.
5. Halloween H20 - **
Even though ignoring previous entries is a sign of laziness, I thought this film was well written. Unfortunately I felt the overall direction of the film dragged it down. It felt more of a generic late 90's slasher then a Halloween, and seeing Michael's eyes all the time just seems to bring down his mystique factor.
4. Halloween 5 - **
This one has grown on me in the past year. It has a awful rushed screenplay that doesn't even make sense at times, but the film has some redeeming qualities to it. Donald Pleasence and especially Danielle Harris are good in their roles, and some scenes are really well directed. The basement scene, laundry chute scene, & Dr. Loomis confronting Michael had me at the edge of my seat.
3. Halloween 2 - **
Michael slashing a bunch of boring and uninteresting characters, and that includes Laurie Strode in this film. However, it does seem to have a special John Carpenter touch that works well with the film. Also, Dick Warlock is the creepiest Michael ever.
2. Halloween 4 - **1/2
Yeah, the screenplay is pretty much just a rehash of the original. Yet the good performances, atmosphere, and overall flow of the film make it the most entertaining sequel in the series. H4 also has the best executed ending in a Halloween sequel.
1. Halloween - ****
The best of the best, do I really need to elaborate?

I really like The Curse Of Micheal Myers. That one, and the first are my favorite's, and the only two that I really like. Halloween 3 is fun to watch in the same vein as films like Friday the 13th part V: A New Beginning, and Total Recall. I'm not a big fan of 4, or 5, but it has been a very long time since I've seen part 4. After reading a few discussions on here recently I've been wanting to see it again. H20, and Resurection are terrible in my opinion. The Rob Zombie Halloween films are not terrible, but they are not very good either. I would have liked to have seen him leave the Halloween franchise alone, and direct that creativity into something original. I have not been impressed with any of his films. He should give directing a break, reunite White Zombie, and get back in touch with his roots.
