Let's talk Transformers. I still haven't gotten out to see the movie yet, but I'm very much planning to as soon as possible.

Holy hell, I saw it today. This is not only the movie of the summer, it's the movie of every summer. This movie kicked ten kinds of ass. I was so paranoid that Michael Bay would churn out another flashy shitfest, but after today, I'll kiss the man's feet while mumbling "I'm not worthy!" if I ever come in physical contact with him. Bringing back Peter Cullen as Prime's voice did it for me altogether, but the CGI, the performances, and the sheer level of awesome were the icing on the cake. The only complaint that I really had was the humor. Shia however the hell you spell his last name's quips were actually pretty funny, but John Turturro's character was completely one dimensional and hearing Prime say "my bad" didn't add to it much either. And where in the name of God did Anthony Anderson come from here? Other than that, one kick ass movie. See it now. Yes, I mean go now at 12:35 AM and see it. And Bumblebee pwns all!

Saw it last night, and it was fantastic, sure some of humour was meh, but seeing Prime and the boys again was awesome. I agree with Anthony Anderson's character being a throw away, he seemed pointless except for his screaming like a girl. :p
Anywho, go see it. :cat:

I really loved this movie. There were a couple of small things, like the running time (I thought it could have been about 20 minutes shorter) but, overall, it's an excellent film, and so I've been eating a little crow. I really thought Bay was going to trash my childhood, but it took me back in a very good way. I wanted more Prime, but I figure that's exactly what Bay and company set out to do - to leave you wanting more.
The transformation sounds were really cool, IMO.

Has anyone heard the song Stan Bush submitted for the new film and got rejected? "Till All Are One"? It's SOOOO awesomely cheesy. It starts off with this completely pointless, overdone, rock 2 minute intro. Then once the singing starts, oh my God... the lyrics are horrible.
"In a cold, far away world... a battle is raging between evil and good... from the stars, they came here to Earth... caught in their struggle, the whole universe... robotic warriors give it their all, fight in disguise til the victor is all... Transformers! Defenders of truth! Robots who fight in disguise! Transformers! When the battle is through, only the strong will survive... till all are one..."
Poor Stan. Not only is it in a TOTAL 80s style, but has jack all to do with the new film, just Transformers in general and specifically the 80s film... must've thought he was in a time warp. Did he really think Bay was going to accept this?

seen this flick 3 times an I love it, Shai(sp?) is awesome in it, Megan Fox can work on my engine anytime:drool: Peter Cullen was awesome his aged voice worked very well for Prime in this movie, Megatron(for what little screen time he had) was brutal in all the right ways, Thank you Michael Bay finally a movie worth seeing more than once this summer:bow:

You know, I also thought that Transformers might be the ID4 of the decade. The only difference, I suppose, is that Transformers already has a pretty big demographic of loyalists that might turn this movie into a cult classic, where ID4 was kind of a stand-alone deal.
But yeah, you may be right.

I thought this movie was the movie of all movies. I've never once in my life gone to a movie in the summer, and left with such a great experience. I was on the edge of my seat pretty much the whole flick between Meghan Fox's hot self :shy:, and the sweet ass action scenes.
The comedy was great in my opinion, and all the action was just tremendous. I personally hated Bad Boys II, and even though at some points the action was completely recycled, I felt it was way better in Transformers anyways.
The part I laughed the hardest at though...
Optimus: "Put the cube in my chest. Get behind me!" :lmao:

I wasn't a Transformers fan growing up, but the commercials looked awesome, so I checked it out last week. And I'm going to agree with everybody else and say that it was fucking amazing. It didn't matter that the plot was paper-thin, because who needs to be bogged down by plot when you've got cars and trucks turning into giant robots that kick the shit out of each other?
The drive-in theater near here is supposed to be doing a double feature of Transformers and Die Hard 4 (which I have yet to see) in two weeks, and I'm totally there. If only it were a triple feature of those two and The Simpsons Movie...

I went out and picked up the soundtrack to the movie. I don't mind it so much... basically because it's right up my alley as far as music goes. However, funny thing: In my car CD Player, it gives you the option to view the track title with the song title, and Mutemath is spelled wrong in the coding on the disc... It comes out MUTHMATH.
Does anyone have the link to the other song that everyone was dissing on before this transformers theme? People said it sounded too much like Linkin Park (which would have rocked if they did it.) I never got to listen to it all the way through.

This movie is bad ass! Loved it. I love the original G1 cartoons and it reminded me of them so much.
Starscream is great, but he needed to be in it more. Maybe in the sequel?.... :)
And yea, hearing that old school transformation sound was awesome. Wouldn't have been the same without it.

Actually I'm not sure what happened to starscream. As far as I could tell, the human fighter pilots nailed him with a missle forcing him to transform back into jet mode to get away with them chasing after him.
EDIT:
Wiki seems to confirm this:
Starscream is able to conceal himself among the jets in order to ambush them, but eventually retreats from the battle after the F-22 pilots regroup and engage him with their superior numbers.

Does anyone know if they're even going to bother releasing a score for the film? I'm not concerned with the soundtrack -- after Linkin Park's new album, I'm not so sure about them on the whole -- but I'd really like to get a score if they're going to release one.

Speaking of Linkin Park, did anyone else find it out of place when "What I've Done" at the end of the film?
The song is about turning yourself or committing suicide to find forgiveness for something done wrong, I would have thought Michael Bay would have picked a song that had a more "heroic" theme.
TheShowstoppa
07-15-2007, 05:36 PM
The song is not about suicide. Not even suicide for forgiveness. It's about recollecting on what you have done wrong in the past and realizing it was wrong, asking yourself and the ones you've done wrong for forgiveness.

I thought it implied suicide with the line "Erase myself for what I've done wrong"
Anyway, I thought it was a weird choice for the ending.

So, after seeing Die Hard 4 last night I went in and watched this movie as it started perfectly right after and with all the "great reviews" it's been getting I was interested even though I was never a Transformers fan. I grew up in the age of them but I was more of a GI Joe kid so I didn't buy into the toys or cartoons.
So with that, I might be in the minority but I did NOT like this movie. I will admit that it had some of the best CGI action scenes I've ever seen ever. It was defitnitely loud and a movie that needs to be seen in theaters at lesat once to get the full effect of this movie. However, story wise, charectors, it just fell flat and I was wondering more when this would be over. Mainly was the teen and his parents. He was ok at first but then he just kept getting more and more annoying, same with his parents. They were funny at first (especially when he takes him to buy his first car, that was hilarious driving into the Porshe lot) but they just got way over the top and annoying. I could see that was the point being how the robots even pointed out how annoying they were, but just was overdone and to over the top. Also the Sector 7 guy was just to damn annoying and didn't find him funny one bit, I was hoping he would have died or something.
The story I didn't really understand, everything just seemed to kinda BAM happen and these robots were all here without really any explanation or how they've gotten past security and stuff like that, that would seem "logical". The only charectors I knew was Prime and Megatron. So that shows how much I know of the history of them. I don't even think I even saw the cartoon movie.
But like how someone mentioned kinda being like ID4, I was thinking the same thing as well when they had the Sector 7 come out, then showing that they've known of these and the cube and what have you which just seemed totally lame because how could they keep something like that so long in secret and like NO ONE knowing of em (well no one of "importance") That worked for ID4 and aliens like that as it's still going on to this day. However I didn't like the excuse they showed. Also all the auto-bots not doing anything to save bumble bee or the teens when they could have just dominated them w/o killing anyone.
Then you have this all powerfull cube but instead they have a pointless fight between Prime and Tron only to have the teen with the cube kill Tron? What was up with that? Why didn't he just give it to Prime in the first place? Also Prime was this fuckin bad ass robot that just litterly dominated one of the enemies on the highway with his sword but he doesnt use it against Tron and just kept getting his ass handed to by Tron. So he went from bad ass to a freaken wimp? Then they look as if they're going to leave but then stay and the humans/goverment let them with no problems? Then they say that they're firing sector 7 and getting rid of everything and trying to deny everything but how can you deny something like that, that happened in front of tons of people? What happened to those little robots that got made from the cube when the kid dropped it????
There was just sooooo much stuff going on and probably would have been better to explain a little more or have more of a back/orign story being it was the first one especially for non fans like myself.
Eye & Ear candy wise it was absolutly GREAT, AMAZING, just AWESOME! Story/movie wise it was a dud IMO. I mentioned this to Taffer, I hate the term "Popcorn Movie", to me I see it as someone's cop-out to make themselves feel better about the money/time they spent/wasted on a movie that was just ultimately bad, but I'll go ahead and say this was a good summer popcorn movie, for me at least. It's been a long time since I've been in a movie just wishing for it to be over already and or thinking of just walking out and go watch Harry Potter instead or ANYTHING else besides it, but I stuck it out and was hoping it would get better but it never did.
Hell, I liked Spiderman 3 better then I did this movie. But it is something YOU HAVE TO see in theaters to appreciate watching movies in theaters, and hopefully its on a large screen with loud speakers because that's what made the movie somewhat interesting for me.
2 out of 5 for me and thats mainly just the visuals and action scenes.

Yes, it's a summer popcorn movie, and that's okay with me.
If I wanted a character-driven story, I'd see something like "An Unfinished Life" or "The Bridges of Madison County". Rather, when something like "Transformers" comes along, I want the least amount of story possible. Fuck explaining to me exactly what happens - just get me to the point where giant robots kick the shit out of each other.
But, in the end, you can't please all the people all the time, and that's okay. Like my mama always said - that's why they make vanilla ice cream and chocolate ice cream.

And in a way, that's part of my problem with Transformers. Too much time was spent IMO on Sam and the humans. Did we need Anthony Anderson? Did we need half the military or government characters? Time spent on them could have been used to go to Jazz (to make his death more powerful) or to Starscream and Megatron's relationship beyond ONE line. I loved everything involving the Transformers but I guess I just prefer Cybertronians to my home species...:p

I add all new movies to my Blockbuster Queue and I found out today that the official release date for Transformers is December 31, 2007... That sounds about right to me. I figured they'd have it out right before Christmas, but it makes sense to release it the week after as well, as there will be a lot of people with gift cards and such.
Also, the fact that Dec. 31st isn't a Tuesday may seem like a red flag, there is a precedent of films being released on Mondays around holidays. I want to say it happened last year, actually.

That seems like a suspect release date to me. Usually when a website lists "December 31st", it means they're not quite sure about the release date.
It also misses the Christmas crowd by a couple of days. That's a shoddy marketing strategy. Still, I wouldn't be shocked if it does come out on the 31st. It wouldn't be the first time a studio misses the Christmas mark.

If that were the case, movies that came out up to a month or earlier than TF would have the same date next to them. However, movies like "Knocked Up," "Grindhouse," "Hostel part 2," "Ocean's Thirteen" and many others would have that same release date. However, those and many more like them do NOT have that release date. It also lists "Sunshine" as a release date of 12/31.

Not always. I had a friend who worked at Blockbuster, and after I saw Silent Hill at the theater, I almost immediately started pestering him for a DVD release date. When Silent Hill first appeared in their computer, it was listed for a December 31st, 2006 release. It actually released on August 22nd. The same thing was in their computer for Kingdom Hearts II, Resident Evil 4 and Final Fantasy XII. It seems to afflict more games than it does films, but it does happen with films, too.
As I said, I wouldn't be shocked if the studio turned out to be ignorant enough to skip over Christmas, but Transformers certainly wouldn't be the first movie to appear in Blockbuster's database as a December 31st release date before an official release date was announced.

Well, considering the usual four or five month turnaround between theatrical and home video releases, it only makes sense that Transformers sometime between Thanksgiving and Christmas. And I really doubt they'd do a New Year's Eve release of it. I'm with Dark Vampire in assuming that there'll be a lot of kids who are going to have the DVD on their Christmas lists, so the holiday shopping season would be the perfect time to release it.

Just went and saw this today. My initial reaction was: FUCKING AWESOME.
I do have a couple of complaints:
The film was a little over-long. They could have cut 20 minutes out and it would have made it much more lean.
The cast was too big. With a full cast of human characters, Autobots and Decepticons, we never really got to know any of them.
The Decepticons were canon fodder. Most of them didn't even have dialog, and when they did it was sparse and forgetable. The same thing could be said for the Autobots in terms of dialog.
Jazz got fucking punked by Megatron. Not cool.
The fight scenes were framed too tightly a lot of the time. It got hard to tell what was going on.
Other than that, the film wasn't even one-tenth as bad as Bubba Sawyer kept telling us it would be. My childhood felt thuroughly un-raped, and the film was massive fun. I give it a 4.5 out of 5.
The theater experience, however, I'm going to give a 3 -- some fucking yokel brought what appeared to be a 1-year-old to the film, who proceeded to cry and scream through the entire thing. The guy had to keep getting up and walking to the back of the theater with the kid, but even then I could still hear the little meat sack crying. It's the number one thing I hate, and it would be I have to deal with it at Transformers.
Seriously, who the fuck brings a 1-year-old to Transformers? That movie is the loudest movie I've ever seen. I'd be surprised if the baby didn't go deaf. :duh:
I've just read that, thus far, the film has made over $533 million worldwide. A sequel must be imminent.

Agreed.

I felt all the robots except Bumblebee were severely underused. Jazz only seemed to be in it so he could get killed in what I can only assume they thought would be a viscious way which instead just came across as weak and just... dumb.
The fight scenes were framed too tightly a lot of the time. It got hard to tell what was going on.
It didn't help that half the damn transformers were just a mangle of silver. Some of them were hard to tel apart when they were stood fucking still, let laone fighting.
All in all I felt there were a few badly thught-out things (quite why noone at the entire feckin studio had the brains to say 'hey, if we make them all silver everyone will struggle to tell them apart in the fight scenes' I'll never know) and there were elements to the story ( like why in the fuck did OP not tell Witwicky to slam the cube into the chest of Megatron? Why, when his opponent is right there did he want to sacrifice himself? Just plain stupid and lazy writing) that really could have been better.
But overall it was still a solid 8 and very enjoyable.

I hope with Soundwave they add a couple of the cassettes with him like Ravage and Laserbeak.
Having never seen the Transformers cartoons, never read the Transformers comics, and, in fact, not knowing a damn thing about Transformers except that Optimus Prime was an 18-wheeler cab that turns into a giant robot, I have to admit I had no idea what to expect when Larry and I saw this on Saturday. That being said, overall...
IT WAS EFFING AWESOME!
The Transformers all looked really well-done to me, except during the fight scenes. You really couldn't tell which was which and who was fighting who. They never really gave a backstory to any of the Decepticons except for Megatron, and his story was just that he was evil.
I agree with Jeans and Sickboy, they could've cut about 20-30 minutes of it out and it would've been just fine. Like the whole scene with the chick that was supposed to be translating the sound clip and her hacker friend. That was not overly necessary to the story, IMO.
sickboylike why in the fuck did OP not tell Witwicky to slam the cube into the chest of Megatron? Why, when his opponent is right there did he want to sacrifice himself? Just plain stupid and lazy writing
I thought the same thing...wouldn't that have been the obvious choice? Unless OP thought that he had no chance of defeating Megatron, I don't see why it wasn't written that way.
Other than those complaints, I have to say I was very impressed.
Oh yeah, Larry and I WILL be buying this when it comes out.

I thought the reason Optimus said to put it in his chest was because only the Matrix of leadership could destroy the cube.
Obviously that is wrong

I figured that Prime never mentioned it because, honestly, what chance could Sam have had against Megatron? Prime probably assumed that Sam would never be in a position to insert the Allspark into Megatron's chest, so he'd just as soon sacrifice his own life to prevent Megatron getting it than send Sam to try and do it himself.

Except when OP tells him to do it for the last time, while Megatron is right there... Or, you know, why did OP not just do it himself and save Jazz getting killed and all those civilians getting hurt?

Prime wasn't even around when Megatron first attacked, and he didn't arrive on the scene until long after Jazz had been killed. He wasn't there when Bumblebee shrank the Allspark, and he didn't know they'd dug up Megatron and were keeping him frozen. I don't see how Prime could have stopped Megatron before Megatron was freed by Frenzy or before their battle in the city.
Because Prime didn't want to risk Megatron getting his hands on the Allspark, I can understand why he wouldn't want to risk trying to insert it into Megatron's chest. It's obvious Prime is very much Megatron's inferior in combat. Do you really think Megatron would have left himself open to Prime's attacks had he realized what Prime was trying to do with the Allspark? And do you think Prime would have risked it? I can't see him taking the gamble. I think Prime would just as soon sacrifice himself than give Megatron the chance to take the Allspark from him.
In the end, Sam got lucky. Megatron wasn't expecting it. If Prime had shouted, "Sam, stick it in Megatron's chest!", Megatron wouldn't have let Sam get within touching distance.
I don't think the resolution was perfectly executed, but I don't think it was awful, either.

It's obvious Prime is very much Megatron's inferior in combat.
That's my biggest gripe with the movie. The original incarnation of Optimus Prime was superior to Megatron in straight combat. However, when you threw in the fact that Megatron wasn't afraid to play dirty, it leveled the playing field. The ZOMG XXX-Treme Megatron bitch slapped Prime all over the screen in the movie. I would have preferred a more balanced fight with Prime gaining the upper-hand only to have Megatron grab Sam, and use him as a human shield. This would have given Prime a disadvantage, but ultimately, Megatron's plan could backfire by Sam getting his hands on the cube and shoving it into Megatron. Either that or just having Prime kick the $@*! out of Megatron. Either would have worked better for me than what we got.

I mostly agree, eX. As I said, I don't think the resolution was awful, but it certainly could have been better.
Anyone got any guesses on who's going to be the "bad guy" in the sequel? Like I've said, I never really got into Transformers as a kid, and after the Megatron thing, who's going to take his place? Another Decepticon?

My guess would be...that Megatron's body will be recovered somehow and rebuilt as Galvatron
Just Jeans

The word on the street is that the next film will feature Galvatron, who is an updated -- and massively unhinged -- Megatron. With all the trouble Prime had in the first film, I expect Galvatron will stomp a mud hole in him.
I expect Starscream will act as lead bad dude until Megatron/Galvatron turns up.

Grave, it was a popcorn flick. I found it very enjoyable and found it very funny in certain parts as well.

Even for a popcorn movie it was ridiculous. The humor pretty much ruined it for me and felt terribly out of place and was constantly interfering with everything. Even the action wasn't great and I found the movie terribly boring in parts, I yawned more than a few times throughout. What a fucking wretched movie.

A few of Michael Bay's usual problems throughout but overall his bets film yet with plenty of action and a lot of fun to watch. :) Would like to see mroe of Starscream being a bitch in the sequel, though.

Pre-ordered my DVD Saturday at Suncoast. The release date there was 12/31/09, meaning they don't have a date yet.

I read in a Wizard interview with Micahel Bay and he said the reason Frank Welker wasn't brought back was that his Megatron still sounded the same as before. And that there wasn't enough menace in it. Peter Cullen was able to balance between the old school and what Bay wanted. That's why he was able to stay in it.
I think they should've gotten Leonard Nimoy to do Megatron. I know he's pretty much retired, but it would've been good.

REALLY Giant Robots are Coming!
Source: ComingSoon.net, Superhero Hype! August 17, 2007
Director Michael Bay's Transformers has already reached $633.9 million worldwide in tickets sales (on a budget of $150 million), but we're thinking fans will want to head back to theaters when his "Giant F**king Robots" will live up to that title even more.
ComingSoon.net/SuperheroHype.com has learned that Paramount Pictures will rerelease the summer blockbuster in IMAX theaters on September 21 with more footage than you saw in the conventional theatrical version.
What? We don't know, but we can't wait to hear Optimus Prime's voice in IMAX's digital speaker system, or see the robots battling it out on the giant screen!
SHIT YES!

That news = Yawn. I suppose it matters to those who can afford/live near an IMAX theater, but for me... well, it's pretty much a "meh" announcement. I'm sure the extra footage will be on the DVD.

FROM PARAMOUNT HOME VIDEO
-----------------------------------
Transformers Hits DVD and HD DVD on Oct. 16!
Source: Paramount Home Entertainment September 5, 2007
The armies of Cybertron invaded theaters with a juggernaut fury that shook the summer of 2007, but on October 16, 2007 fans of all ages will discover that there is far "More Than Meets The Eye" to the massive mechanical behemoths when Transformers arrives on Earth in spectacular DVD and HD DVD two-disc Special Edition sets as well as on a single disc from DreamWorks Pictures and Paramount Pictures; distributed by Paramount Home Entertainment.
Earning over $650 million at the global box office to date, the massive production exploded onto screens from the creative minds of director Michael Bay and executive producer Steven Spielberg, in association with Hasbro, taking audiences by storm and becoming the biggest original film of the year. The first live-action film based on the enduringly popular "robots in disguise", Transformers features the ultimate battle between good and evil, as the peace-loving Autobots seek to protect humanity from the evil forces of the Decepticons. The action-packed film stars a hot young cast of up-and-coming actors including Shia LaBeouf (Disturbia), Josh Duhamel ("Las Vegas"), Tyrese Gibson (Four Brothers) and Megan Fox ("Hope & Faith"), as well as seasoned performers such as Jon Voight (National Treasure) and John Turturro (The Good Shepherd). But the biggest stars are the Transformers robots themselves – including fan favorites Optimus Prime, Megatron, Bumblebee, Ratchet, Jazz and more – brought to life by revolutionary new VFX techniques developed by the innovative digital wizards at Industrial Light & Magic (ILM).
The Transformers Special Edition two-disc sets provide an incredible experience with an arsenal of bonus material that delivers excitement and fun for long-time fans, as well as for viewers who are new to the "Transformers" universe. The extensive special features include commentary by Michael Bay and two multi-part in-depth documentaries exploring the human elements of the film as well as the phenomenal robot stars. Presented in multiple parts, "Our World" and "Their War" include segments with Steven Spielberg discussing his love for the franchise and the early concept for the movie, the extensive casting process, the training, consultants and real-world weapons provided by the military to lend authenticity to the film, the evolution of the robots from Hasbro’s iconic toy line to big-screen stars, the unique vehicles created for the movie, a discussion with ILM's legendary digital artists and much more.
The discs go even further behind-the-scenes with early sketch concepts of the robots and an in-depth look at the making of the Skorponok attack from writing and conceptualization through the creation of the stunning visual effects.
In addition to superior picture and sound and all of the above bonus material presented in high definition, the HD DVD presentation provides consumers with a host of web-enabled features, which are accessible through all connected HD DVD players. The
web-enabled features take advantage of technology that allows the studio to present the content in a new way. These cutting-edge, online features can be updated, providing consumers with an evolving entertainment experience months, or even years, after the disc is physically produced. Initial features include a Transformers Intelligence Mode in which an on-screen dashboard over the film provides information about the robots and weapons, their strength levels, character updates and more. Plus, a GPS Locator that can access a map and GPS coordinates. Paramount's Transformers HD DVD connectivity capabilities will reveal additional HD DVD exclusive features at street date and at various time periods in the future.
The HD DVD also includes a Transformers H.U.D. (Heads Up Display) that lets viewers access running text commentary while watching the film and even view relevant behind-the-scenes footage in a picture-in-picture window. Additionally, viewers can explore the main robots' individual details in high definition with the Transformers Tech Inspector.

I wonder if the extra footage that is supposed to be in the IMAX version in the September re-release will be included on the initial DVD, or if I'll be forced to double-dip the damn thing.
Anyhow, I was expecting the DVD in October/November, so October 16th is just about perfect. And only two months after I saw it at the cinema. Nice.

We bought the 2-disc when it came out... we never buy the 1-disc version when there's a 2-disc. The only exception to that is Harry Potter 5, I thought I ordered the 2-disc, but it was the 1-disc. :( I still haven't opened it.
