"Knocked Up" star Seth Rogen and writing partner Evan Goldberg are in final negotiations to co-write and produce "The Green Hornet" for Sony Pictures.

"Hornet" follows the adventures of Britt Reid, a bored playboy who inherits his father's crusading newspaper, the Daily Sentinel. By night he is a masked hero, fighting crime with his sidekick Kato, who has incredible martial-arts skills.

Rogen is also surprisingly attached to star as the classic crime-fighting hero - a role that Hollywood hunks George Clooney, Mark Wahlberg and Jake Gyllenhaal have previously been linked with.

The character is best remembered for the 1966 ABC series that starred Van Williams as the Green Hornet and Bruce Lee as Kato.

Maybe that is true but this is a Green Hornet movie.

But should The Green Horbet ever be made I hope they do him justice to

Side note in Japan The Green Hornet was called The Kato Show as Bruce Lee was very popular over tere at the time

What ever happened to Kevin Smith writing and/or directing this.
The last i heard he got cold feet and talked to producers and said he couldn't handle directing an action movie this big, but he was still supposed to write.

Rogen Wants Chow for Kato?
Source: Los Angeles Times July 21, 2007

The Los Angeles Times, which broke the news about Seth Rogen writing and starring in The Green Hornet, is now saying the Knocked Up star wants Kung Fu Hustle director and actor Stephen Chow to play Kato in his comedic take on the comic book.

The "Green Hornet" TV show was notable for the presence of the late Bruce Lee as sidekick Kato, a kung fu expert with a killer car.

Rogen would play Brit Reid, millionaire publisher-turned-masked crime fighter. The film will be produced by Neal H. Moritz at Columbia Pictures.

in his comedic take on the comic book.

THAT is why I'm unsure with this film and more sure with something like Captain Marve (;))l, who's writer has done a bunch of blogs and stuff that showed he understands the character and what makes him tick. This is just like that aborted Green Lantern film with Jack Black. I don't like the idea of a "comedic" Green Hornet. Sure, it has to have some comedy but I get the feeling this will be done like a parody film and not a serious action flick. Maybe it won't be, I'll give it the benefit of the doubt, but for now, I am (optimistically) cautious.

I dunno. I rate Seth Rogen higher on the "able to do comedy that's dramatic" scale than Jack Black. Even if The Green Hornet film is a little more irreverent than the source material, I wouldn't expect it to be anywhere near as stupid as The Green Lantern starring Jack Black had the potential to be.

Hmmm. That's why I'm cautiously optimistic. I haven't seen Knocked Up yet and will hold back even more until I do. But it's just the concept of "comedic take" that bugs me, y'know what I mean? Still, Chow as Kato. AWESOME.:D

Seth Rogen Talks Green Hornet
Source: Edward Douglas July 28, 2007

Seth Rogen is arguably one of the funniest guys making movies right now, having played key roles in Judd Apatow's The 40-Year-Old Virgin and starring in Knocked Up. Next month, he will co-star in a teen comedy he co-wrote with high school buddy Evan Goldberg that they've been developing for years called Superbad, which solidifies that claim, as proven when he showed the movie at Comic-Con International for a packed audience with producer Judd Apatow and the entire cast in attendance.

Recently, it was announced that Rogen would be writing the script for a movie based on the radio and comic book hero The Green Hornet with his Superbad co-writer Evan Goldberg and though that may very well be the funniest movie of the year, in the Q &A that followed the screening, Rogen stated very clearly that the movie is "not a comedy, it's an action movie."

Considering what a great comic actor and writer Rogen is, it'll be interesting to see how far it's scaled back when they take on this lesser-known superhero, which always had more of a gritty pulp feel to it.

Rogen will also executive produce and star in The Green Hornet, which Columbia Pictures is planning for a summer 2009 release.

I remember back in the 90's theere was Green Hornet comic book from NOW comics, I used to love it. It had an all new "Black Beauty" (the car).. fuck it, I'll let Wiki do the talking:

In the 1990s a comic book series from NOW Comics, initially written by Ron Fortier and illustrated by Jeff Butler, attempted to reconcile the different versions of the character into a multi-generational epic. The Britt of the radio series had fought crime as the Hornet in the 1930s and 1940s before retiring. The television character was revealed to be the namesake nephew of the original Britt Reid, who took up his uncle's mantle. In the comic, his nephew named Paul Reid takes on the role of the Hornet and is assisted by a new, female Kato, as well as the Kato who assisted his predecessor. The addition of the female character, Mishi Kato, caused problems between the publishers and the property's owners, who withdrew approval of that character and mandated the return of "the Bruce Lee version."

There were two main Green Hornet series from NOW, as well as various annuals, miniseries, and spin-offs. The first began in 1989 and had reached 14 issues when the company suspended operations for several months. The second volume began in 1991 and lasted 40 issues, ending in 1995 because the publishers went out of business. Like Tonto before him, Kato got his spin-off solo adventures: a 4 issue miniseries in 1991, and a two issue follow-up in 1992, both written by Mike Baron. He also wrote a third, first announced as a two-issue mini, then as a graphic novel, but it was never released. Tales of the Green Hornet, consisting of nine issues spread out over three volumes (two, four, and three issues, respectively), presented stories of the two previous Hornets, with Volume One having a plotline, starring Green Hornet II, provided by Van Williams, the actor who played that character's basis on TV. The follow-ups, beginning with the most detailed version of the Green Hornet's origin in any professional medium, were written by James Van Hise.

Discounting depictions of the cars utilized by the 1940s and 1960s Hornets, there were two different versions of the Black Beauty used in the NOW comic series. The first was loosely based on the Corvette Indy concept car. Painted black and green, as a sports/exotic car, it was a big change from the two Black Beauty limousines used by previous Green Hornets. With the realization that such a distinctive vehicle was inappropriate to the nature of the Hornet operation, the Black Beauty was again changed to a 4 door sedan, this time based on the 91-96 Oldsmobile 98 Touring Sedan.

I loved this book, i really did. I hope they do a good job here.

Rogen and Goldberg on The Green Hornet (http://www.superherohype.com/news/featuresnews.php?id=7416)

While no director has been announced, Sony's Columbia Pictures has already set a release date for The Green Hornet. ComingSoon.net/Superhero Hype! talked to Pineapple Express co-writers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg about penning the comic book adaptation.

CS/SHH!: Seth, I take it that there's no pot smoking in 'The Green Hornet' script?
Rogen: [laughs] We put the green in "The Green Hornet." No. There isn't at all actually.

CS/SHH!: That's a very different kind of writing.
Rogen: No. It's true.

CS/SHH!: What have you learned as a screenwriter tackling a project like that and what's the progress of that script currently?
Rogen: We're done with the script. It looks like they're going to make it. We got a release date. June 25th, 2010. So mark your calendars if you're really busy. It was actually helpful having made this movie, writing another kind of action movie. We learned exactly how specific you can or can't be.
Goldberg: People have just been like, "Bullsh*t that Seth Rogen can do that" unless "Pineapple" comes out first.
Rogen: Yeah, exactly, and getting "The Green Hornet" writing job we showed them some scenes from "Pineapple" literally in the pitch for that. We were just like, "Look, we can write action scenes."

CS/SHH!: Do you have to be more disciplined as a writer, writing something like that as compared to this?
Rogen: No, not necessarily. Luckily the MPAA decided that violence is fine. When you're doing an action movie you can really have as much violence as you want. In writing "The Green Hornet" we haven't hit many situations where were like, "You know what would make this scene better? If Kato said c**ksucker." That hasn't come up that many times. I mean, I'd say that action wise we've been able to do anything that we could've ever wanted.

CS/SHH!: Are you going to play the Green Hornet?
Rogen: Yeah, I will. Don't say it like that. Soon we want to do a Green Hornet/Green Goblin crossover movie in 2012. "Green Squared," yeah. "Green to the 2."

CS/SHH!: What do you like about the Green Hornet character?
Rogen: To us it was just kind of this funny notion that when you say "The Green Hornet" to people, the first thing anyone says is, "Hey, Bruce Lee played Kato in that show." We've always wanted to make this hero sidekick movie. That was always an unexplored area to us and for years we've actually been trying to write a movie that was about a hero and his sidekick and then when we heard that "The Green Hornet" movie was up for grabs we thought that could be the most perfect way to do this story because he is the only kind of hero who's sidekick is actually more known than he is. We kind of thought that it would be a good way to tell this relationship story and just do a big crazy action movie basically.

Chow to Direct and Star in Green Hornet! (http://www.superherohype.com/news/topnews.php?id=7671)

Stephen Chow, one of Asia's most popular box-office draws as the award-winning star and director of such films as Kung Fu Hustle, CJ7, and Shaolin Soccer, will direct Seth Rogen and star opposite him as Kato in Columbia Pictures' The Green Hornet, set for release June 25, 2010, it was announced today by Doug Belgrad and Matt Tolmach, presidents of Columbia Pictures. The screenplay is by Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg, who will also executive produce. Neal H. Moritz is the producer through his Original Film production company.

In tapping Chow to helm The Green Hornet, Sony Pictures Entertainment continues a long association with the star and director. Under its local language initiative, Sony co-produced and released Chow's Kung Fu Hustle, which went on to gross over $100 million worldwide and received a Golden GlobeŽ nomination as well as six Hong Kong Film Awards and five Taiwan Golden Horse Awards. Sony also released CJ7.

Commenting on the announcement, Tolmach said, "When Seth, Evan, and Neal said they wanted Stephen Chow to be part of 'The Green Hornet,' it was a fantasy. Now that it's happening, it's almost too good to be true. Stephen's been a very important part of the Sony family for many years, so it's truly serendipitous for us to be moving forward with him directing the movie and starring as Kato."

Chow added, "I'm excited to be taking on 'The Green Hornet' -- obviously, I've been a huge fan of the show since I was a kid. The idea of stepping into Bruce Lee's shoes as Kato is both humbling and thrilling, and to get the chance to direct the project as my American movie debut is simply a dream come true. I'm grateful to my friends at Sony, who have shown so much faith in me for so many years. I'm looking forward to working with Seth, Evan, Neal, and the team at Sony, and I'm eager to get started."

Moritz said, "'The Green Hornet' is a dream project and it's come together in a dream way. Seth will be fantastic in the lead role, and Stephen was the only name on the list for Kato. The material is a perfect match for his sensibilities -- Stephen in the director's chair is the best thing for the film."

Rogen said, "Stephen was always my and Evan's first choice for director and to play Kato. We just hope that he never finds out we're not the Wachowski Brothers."

Rogen's Observe and Report co-star Michael Pena says (http://www.iesb.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=5509&Itemid=99)

Rogen has offered him a role in the upcoming superhero film, but Pena would not disclose which role he was offered.

THE GREEN HORNET GETS A LITTLE LESS SERIOUS (http://www.chud.com/articles/articles/16715/1/THE-GREEN-HORNET-GETS-A-LITTLE-LESS-SERIOUS/Page1.html)

Seth Rogen is keeping busy. He's got Judd Apatow's Funny People happening right now, and then next year he's going to be starring in The Green Hornet, directed by the amazing Stephen Chow.

I've talked to Seth about The Green Hornet a number of times in the last year, most recently on the set of Observe and Report. There he said that the film would be pretty serious, and that he and co-writer Evan Goldberg weren't looking to do a send up. But that was before Stephen Chow, known for his comedic take on action, came on board. Which means The Green Hornet may be getting a sense of humor.

"We feel no obligation to live up to anything I've said to any of you people in the past," Rogen told me today at the Zack & Miri press day. "When we're writing I can't go, 'Fuck, I told CHUD we weren't going to do that! Let's do it anyway!'

"Me and Evan [Goldberg] talk a lot of shit. We have one rule when writing, and that's don't get attached to anything. One day we want to make a serious film and then Stephen Chow comes in with a good idea and we're like, 'Well it's funny.' Should we not do it because we originally wanted to do a serious film? We come from, nah fuck it, we'll just take the idea that seems good. So it's definitely less serious than a serious film, that's for sure. We want the action... I say now that we want the action to play serious but Stephen could come in tomorrow and say 'You know what? I want to throw you 400 feet in the air!' and I'd go, 'OK, that sounds cool.'

"We're very open now. Right now is when we're in the process of deciding what this movie is going to be on a practical level. The story is the same; we've always known the story we wanted to tell, so it's easy within that to discuss the various sensibilities and reality levels and humor levels and stuff like that. To us, we hoped the director would come in and give us lots of ideas and directions to work with, and that's what he's doing."

He and Goldberg have been rewriting the script with Chow, who was actually holed up somewhere in the Four Seasons hotel while Rogen was doing the press rounds. According to Rogen, shooting should start in April or May.

Rogen Hates His Slimdown (http://www.imdb.com/news/ns0000002/#ni0589569)

Funnyman Seth Rogen is shedding the pounds to play comic book character The Green Hornet - and he hates every minute of his weightloss.

The Knocked Up star has grown fond of his portly look, and admits he feels like "a sell out" now he's slimmer.

Rogen, who has also penned the screenplay for The Green Hornet, says, "I've been eating better and training - and hating myself for it. I feel like a sell out, I feel lame, I feel like a guy I would make fun of."

Chow no longer to direct (http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117997630.html?categoryid=13&cs=1)

There's been another change in the "Hornet" nest: Stephen Chow has dropped out as director of "The Green Hornet" but will still play Kato in Columbia Pictures' latest bid to get the crimefighter to the bigscreen.
The studio and producer Neal Moritz are in the process of setting a new director to keep the picture on track to begin production by spring.

The character began on radio in the 1930s and is best known from the '60s TV version. But a bigscreen translation is having a long gestation, going through many incarnations, including as a proposed George Clooney vehicle.

Chow, who directed and starred in "Kung Fu Hustle" and "Shaolin Soccer," signed in September to direct the film and play the role originated in the TV series by Bruce Lee. He stepped out as director over creative differences.

The film was scripted by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, and Rogen is starring as the masked crime fighter. The script will likely be polished, and a director could be in place by year's end.

Chow gives his reason (http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2008/12/23/arts/AS-Stephen-Chow-Green-Hornet.php), and leaves the door open for him to bail on being Kato as well.

Chow, whose credits include "Shaolin Soccer" and "Kung Fu Hustle," said over the weekend that he wants to free up time to work with Jack Black on a comedy about a superhero.

"If I direct 'The Green Hornet,' the superhero comedy will have to be delayed for two years," Chow said. "The timing might not be right for a superhero comedy in two years. And I want to make a movie based on an original idea."

Details about that movie weren't immediately available.

Chow said whether he stays on to play Kato in "The Green Hornet" depends on his schedule.

Has Rogen's 'Green Hornet' Been Defeated? (http://www.hitfix.com/blogs/2008-12-6-motion-captured/posts/2009-1-24-has-rogen-s-green-hornet-been-defeated)

There are certain film projects that seem to pick up a curse as they wind their way through development, perpetually threatening to get made but never actually ending up in front of the camera. Right now, it looks like "The Green Hornet" is about to collapse again, and if this particular configuration doesn't happen, then I suspect it never will.

Ever since Stephen Chow started to waffle about his participation in the film, I've been hearing rumors that there were major hesitations at Sony. Then at Sundance, I heard several people say that the film was off completely. I spoke this afternoon with a source close to the film, and while they didn't call it completely dead, they did say it is "highly unlikely" that the film will shoot in 2009 at all.

That's a shame. I'm not going to pretend to have some lifelong passion for the character or the property... I doubt anyone my age is genuinely nostalgic about "The Green Hornet," since it's really a relic of an earlier age. The TV show was in the '60s, and the radio show predates that. But I am aware of the property, and Bruce Lee playing Kato means that there's some historic relevance that they can play off of. I liked the idea of Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg revitalizing the material, and when they were talking about Chow as director and co-star, it seemed like a can't-miss proposition. Seth even trained for the movie, and if you've seen him in the last few months, you probably noticed how much leaner Seth was looking.

I'll continue to look into this, but for now, it looks like "The Green Hornet" has gone onto life-support at Sony, with a good chance the studio's going to kick the plug out any moment now.

"'The Green Hornet' has many people working for it, including production designers, costume designers and many conceptual artists, office staff, etc.," he said during our e-mail exchange back and forth. Meanwhile, Kevin Smith's Hornet will be brought to life in comic form. SilentBobSpeaks (http://silentbobspeaks.com/?p=389):

Nick Barrucci over at Dynamite Entertainment dropped me an email a few weeks back to tell me that, in addition to the “Lone Ranger”, “Battlestar Galactica”, and “Red Sonja” comics he publishes, he’d just been granted the rights to publish comics featuring the Green Hornet and Kato. “Any interest in writing an arc?” he asked. Citing the movie I’m in the midst of making (”A Couple of Dicks”) and the “Batman: The Widening Gyre” maxi, I declined. “As much as I’d love to,” I wrote back. “Right now, I can’t make the time to write a Green Hornet story.”

Then, I remembered that I’d written a Hornet story once before…

So while it’s not a straight-up adaptation of the “Green Hornet” movie script I wrote some years back, it’s definitely gonna take its cues from that script - just as that script took its cues from all the source material available (radio, TV, comics). So this is about as close as I’ll get to making that “Green Hornet” flick I walked away from directing all those years ago, when I was too chicken-shit and in love with my own characters to try something outside my comfort zone.

And as much as I wish it were so (because the flick’s gonna rule), our “Hornet” mini has no tie-in to Mr. Rogen/Mr. Goldberg/Mr. Gondry’s upcoming film. Had Seth and I ever talked about our respective “Hornet” scripts on the set of “Zack and Miri Make a Porno”, believe me, I’d have co-opted/stolen his ideas and incorporated them into the comic. But we kinda treated “Hornet” like an ex-girlfriend of mine that he was currently fucking and all three of us knew he had a bigger dick: the less said, the better. No, the only connection we’ll have to Seth’s flick is the fact that we’re a comic, and Seth reads comics (lots, people).

The story covers the passing of the torch from Britt Reid to his son Britt Jr. - what Dynamite’s calling the “silver age” book. Then, another creative team will do a series that covers the “golden age”, aka the Green Hornet and Kato most folks are familiar with. And if there’s a demand, a possible third series about the “modern age” Green Hornet could happen. So if my version sucks, fear not: my betters will pick up the slack with the characters.

And while he haven’t landed an interior artist yet, some stellar talent has signed-on to provide us with covers: John Cassaday, Jae Lee, David Finch, and a newcomer name of Ross…

Yes - that’s an Alex Ross sketch. Alex fucking Ross (http://www.viewaskew.com/kevin/Dyngh.jpg).

Ok, people are bitching because of a possibilty of Vin Deisel as Thor, but no one has a problem with fucking Seth Rogen as the Green Hornet!?! I'm suprised that Judd Apatow has nothing to do with this.

Epic pass.

I think it's because everyone expects Green Hornet to be a goofy comedy, whereas Thor is supposed to be a serious-minded movie so people care a lot more about a good performance.

Cage and Diaz Negotiating (http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/14685/nic-cage-in-talks-for-green-hornet-)

Nicolas Cage is in early talks to play the gangster villain in "The Green Hornet" for Sony Pictures says Variety.

Cameron Diaz is negotiating to play a reporter and love interest in the Michel Gondry-directed pic which stars Seth Rogen as the masked crime fighter. A replacement for Stephen Chow as his sidekick Kato is currently being sought.

Rogen and Evan Goldberg wrote the script and Neal Moritz is producing. Filming kicks off this Fall.

Rick is absolutely right, and as for Cage and Diaz, why not? I'm for that

Rick

Cage would be a decent choice for this movie. Even his attempts at serious acting have come off pretty funny over the last few years.
This production seems to have had it's share of problems, i'm wondering if it's ever going to get rolling.

Kato rumor (http://www.latinoreview.com/news/south-korean-rumored-to-play-kato-7523)

according to various Asian news outlets, it seems that a popular South Korean actor by the name of Kwon Sang-woo is currently in talks for the part.

Kwon not only boasts a history of martial-arts-heavy roles, he also has the distinction of being both built and attractive. Yes, I took one for the team and spent 10 minutes with Google Images making sure that Kwon had what it takes and I heartily support him for the part -- broken English or not.

And yes I'm judging him completely by his looks and an extensive body of evidence that mostly includes his body in all its ab-tastic glory.

"I feel immense relief right now," said Seth Rogen, who introduced the Black Beauty. "Sometimes you've gotta go a long way just to get back to where you started. We went to a lot of major auto manufacturers who pitched us different designs and futuristic takes on it."

"To us, it was important that it seemed like a guy could actually build this car," Rogen added. "This looks like something you could actually use on the streets. We ended up falling back on the original '66 Chrysler Imperial. We've updated it, we've added a lot of weapons that weren't around in the '60s, and I think it's going to be incredibly badass to see it in action."

The car brought to Comic-Con is one of eighteen models that have been built for the 2010 film.

Release date move (http://news-briefs.ew.com/2009/08/31/the-green-hornet-release-date-moves-to-december-2010/)

The Green Hornet has moved its release from July 7, 2010 to Dec. 17, 2010. Rogen told HitFix.com that he’s “relieved and psyched about the [date] change,” since it gives the film, due to start filming this week with director Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), needed extra time for post-production and promotion.

Christoph Waltz Is Villain In 'Green Hornet' (http://www.deadline.com/hollywood/christoph-waltz-to-be-villain-in-green-hornet/)

I'm told that ICM's actor Christoph Waltz who won Best Actor at the Cannes Film Festival for playing a Nazi in Inglourious Basterds (and is a shoo-in for an Oscar nomination) has now been cast as villain Chudnofsky in Sony's The Green Hornet opposite Seth Rogen and Cameron Diaz.

Since Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds came out -- and crossed the $100M mark this weekend -- Waltz has been offered a lot of big movies by a lot of big directors. And he's getting big bucks now. How great he's found success at age 52. Big breaks like this keep actors in Hollywood still hopeful...

3-D causes another bump (http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118018173.html?categoryid=13&cs=1&ref=bd_film)

"The Green Hornet" is going 3D, but it's also on the move: Sony Pictures is moving the Seth Rogen starrer from the prime holiday slot of Dec. 22 to the slower Martin Luther King weekend.

The Michel Gondry-helmed pic will now open Jan. 14, 2011.

The studio bristled at the notion that bad buzz surrounding the project played a role in its decision to abandon one of choicest days on the box office calendar. Instead, Sony said that once the decision was made to incorporate 3D during the production process, "Green Hornet" needed to find a frame with sufficient digital screens. A number of 3D pics have already staked out December slots including "Tron: Legacy" and "Yogi Bear."

"We've had a lot of success with the Martin Luther King frame, including 'Paul Blart,'" said the studio's marketing and distribution topper Jeff Blake. "We couldn't be more excited about 'Green Hornet.' In fact, we're doubling down by making it 3D."

Why the hell does this suddenly need to be a 3D movie? I'll still see it because of Rogen, but this 3D bullshit needs to stop....and soon.

Obligatory Stock Response:

I really can't wrap my head round the hate for photographing a film with 3D cameras. I get why people might not like a ton of 3D gags -- they can be pretty corny in 2D, as The Final Destination proves -- but a lot of these films aren't being shot like that anymore. They're just regular films that are photographed with 3D cameras.

The option to see these things in 2D will always be there. No one's going to force anyone to see it in 3D.

So now this opens next to Whedon's Cabin in the Woods? Interesting. I wonder if throwing the 3D effect on there will compensate for how much the studio is displeased with the film.

I'm pretty much at the point where I hate Seth Rogan, so that probably attributes to my dislike of the movie. However, just none of those spots seemed funny at all. Also, the idea of this being more of a comedy than anything kind of turns me off to it as well.

All of his acting in this movie seems so forced and just plain terrible. Pineapple Express = funny/good, Knocked Up = funny/good, Zack & Miri = funny/good, but something doesn't sit right with Rogan being the Green Hornet.

He definitely acts the same in everything. I'm yet to see a movie that displays he has a range as an actor. "Observe and Report" was definitely Rogen-ish, but he played a buffoon character unlike his others. One day I'll youtube my Seth Rogen impression, along with Shia Leobuff, and maybe Paul Rudd.

See, that is why I am not a fan of him (at least not in a Green Hornet style movie). Hornet doesn't seem like a Rogan character and from what I've seen in those previews, I won't like the movie. I'll give it a chance for him to prove me wrong, but he just seems misplaced in this flick.

Green Hornet Heads to Mythbusters (http://www.superherohype.com/news/articles/112294-the-green-hornet-heads-to-mythbusters)

The MYTHBUSTERS are getting into action hero mode again – this time with Seth Rogen, star and co-writer of the upcoming 3D action comedy The Green Hornet. On Wednesday, December 15 at 9PM ET/PT, the Green Hornet Special episode will feature Rogen and the MYTHBUSTERS team taking on two exciting scenes from the upcoming January motion picture release. The film will be released in theaters nationwide on January 14, 2011.

Long a MYTHBUSTERS fan, Rogen wanted to find out what would happen when some of these Hollywood scenes are played out in real life. “I’m a big fan of MYTHBUSTERS,” said Rogen. “We were making a big action movie and it just seemed like the only time we could do something like this. I watch the show all the time and it just seemed cool to see if the stuff in our movie was possible in any way, shape or form.”

The MYTHBUSTERS team, with Seth as their assistant, tackles two pivotal scenes from the film. First up is “Explosive Escape,” where The Green Hornet and his tech-savvy sidekick Kato are buried alive in the Green Hornet’s iconic car Black Beauty and blast their way out using the car’s built-in rockets. Adam, Jamie and Seth re-create this explosive silver screen scene… with a little TNT party.

Then, in “Elevator Car Cut,” Seth requests that Kari, Grant and Tory take on another action sequence from the movie, where The Green Hornet and Kato again find themselves in a jam. After being shot up by bad guys they crash into an elevator. As the elevator ascends, it slices the car in half, leaving them to escape in the front half of the car. To test this scene, the team build their own elevator from 3 ˝ tons of steel, chop a car in half and take half a car to the racetrack. Will any of these results be Hollywood ready?

There's an interesting article at The New York Times (http://www.nytimes.com/2011/01/09/movies/09hornet.html?_r=2&ref=movies) about the 19 years of development it took to get a Green Hornet movie to the screen.

In it, the "creative differences" that Nicolas Cage had which led to him dropping out of the villain role and being replaced by Christoph Waltz is revealed - Cage insisted on playing it with a Jamaican accent.

It wasn't shot in 3D. The effect was added in post-production. So the 3D is kind of an afterthought and not worth the extra money. Although, the end credits do look pretty awesome in 3D.

Are the end credits a little mini cartoon?

Not exactly. The main cast had action bubbles behind their name like you'd see in comics that usually say like BANG! or BOOM! or whatever, which looked kind of cool. The rest of the credits tilt inward in the middle like the crease of a book. The left side (usually like the name of the character the actor played or the official title of the person being given credit) goes one way and the other side (the actor or person's name) kind of comes out at you. It was pretty sweet. Hadn't seen anything like it before.
