View Full Version : Extremely odd occurrence with a CD purchase... (wrong album on the disc)

Okay, this is the first time this has ever happened, and I'm a little confused and a lot of angry.
I recently ordered a copy of Marty Simon's 'Lexx' soundtrack. It came in the mail today. Looking at the CD art and the case, it appears that I got exactly what I ordered.
However, the music on the CD is not the soundtrack from 'Lexx'. For one thing, it's 11 tracks long rather than 28. It sounded like an old album recorded a while ago, so I put the thing in my computer and used a remote freedb to get CD information. What it pulled up was information for a Petula Clark album called "Live at the Royal Albert Hall".
So this is the situation I find myself in -- what I've gotten on CD here looks like the 'Lexx' soundtrack, but is in fact something else entirely pressed to the disc. WTF is that, man?
Has this ever happened to anyone else?
ADDED:
Going to the Crescendo Records homepage, I see that Petula Clark: Live at the Royal Albert Hall (http://store.gnpcrescendo.com/product_info.php?products_id=92) is actually in their catalog. :shifty:

Probably a manufacturing error. I've heard of things like that happening, fortunately it hasn't happened to me. That sucks though man, I hope you find your soundtrack!

Similar happened to me with a DVD, well sorta... I got a DVD with no information on it at all. I think when the CD was being printed (the disc art) perhaps the wrong CD was mixed in.

So I e-mailed Crescendo Records directly, and got this back:
Hi there,
Lexx has been out of print for a little while now so I couldn't even
check to see if there was a widespread problem. It certainly is not
out of the realm of possibility that the plant packaged badly at some
point. I'm sorry I can't be more helpful - I suggest returning it to
your seller for a refund.
Fuuuuuck. :misery: I hope the Amazon seller will actually re-fund me, because I'm not sure whether a factory screw up falls under their responsibility. And what's worse, I'll have to order the album again and hope I don't get another copy of Petula's performance at the Royal Albert Hall.
ADDED:
I'm really rather annoyed at the moment. So much so that I'm going to spend some time on the exercise bike (despite having dedicated 108 minutes on it earlier in the day).

I personally wouldn't refund it, it may be worth a decent amount of money someday. A lot of the times these are pretty sought after by fans.

The LEXX soundtrack is out of print and getting hard to find. I'd really rather have that in my collection than a missprint. If I had the extra money to blow I'd probably keep it and try again, but I need the refund money in order to be able to try again. :misery:

The same thing happened to me semi-recently with a DVD. I bought Texas Chainsaw Massacre 4 (yeah I like it) and when I went to pop the disc in the player, the movie was actually A River Runs Through It. No shit. TCM4 packaging and disc art, but not the actual movie on the disc. I just took it back to FYE and told them what happened, since I was just wanting another copy they didn't give me any shit.

Just got this from the seller:
HI JAMES, IM SORRY TO SAY, AMAZON, SHUT ME DOWN FOR SENDING A LETTER TELLING OF MY MOVING ETC, I HATE TO SAY IT BUT, YOU WILL HAVE TO GET A REFUND FROM , AMAZON, I WILL LOOK FOR ANOTHER, BUT IN THE MEAN TIME, IM SORRY, THANKS DAVE
What the fucking fuck, man!
I hope Amazon will work with me on this.

I used to love LEXX. I'm sort of waiting for the DVD prices to drop and for proper region 1 sets for season 2, 3 and 4 to come out.
Thankfully, Amazon was willing to work with me. They're going to refund the money spent, but it'll be 1 to 2 weeks. In the meantime, I've gone ahead and re-ordered the LEXX soundtrack directly from them. It's on a bit of back order it seems -- won't ship for 8 to 10 days -- but that gives 'em time to refund the money this guy took from me, and then I can pay it right back to them directly (plus a couple of bucks).
That sucks. I had a similar problem once where I had the right movie, but not the whole movie. I tried on 2 DVD Players, it would always crap out about one-half through the film, and odder, I tried 2 copies of the film.
But your problem sucks much more. You didn't get ANY of it.

As for refunds, Amazon has a 100% guarantee. All you do is file wit Amazon and you will get it.

Oddly enough today I put a DVD in and while it was the correct DVD it had the wrong menu (it's series 2 and it's menu had series 1 episodes) but the episodes themselves are series 2

James, this actually has happened to me with a VHS tape before. It was supposed to be an older Jackie Chan flick, and it was a completely different movie....one of those old Wu Tang Clan, 70's martial arts flicks

This kind of happened to me today. I bought Dawn of the Dead(1978) from FYE..well used trade to get it. It was the special edition from 2004. The disc was the US Theatrical from the Ultimate Edition set but in the end, it had the same things on it that the normal disc would've had. Basically, it was the same disc with different art work on it. No harm, no foul.
That sucks what happened to you though, Jeans. At least you can get a refund. Still, I'd be pretty pissed off though.

It reminds me of a problem I had once. I rented a DVD from Netflix a year or two ago, and when I got it in the mail, it looked like a typical disc with no causes for concern. I put it in my DVD player, and that sumbitching disc was blank. No joke, there was no information on the disc at all.

Netflix seems to have weird issues like that. After series 2 of Doctor Who came out on DVD, there was a recall on the Netflix rental discs because the first disc lapsed into some pretty brutal footage from one of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre films midway through an episode. :o
Anyhoo, I got an e-mail from Amazon.com today telling me I'd gotten my refund. That was fast considering the 1 to 2 week turnaround that the first e-mail suggested. It could be it was refunded so fast because I re-ordered the CD through them, I suppose.
I had someone on another forum tell me that I should hold onto this messed up printing and sell it on eBay. Apparently they had a similar problem and was able to sell the disc for nearly 200 quid on eBay.

That's happened to me twice. Both with budget Prism Leisure discs. One was Leprechaun - the cover art and disc were correct, but when it played it was the also-Warwick Davis starring "A Very Unlucky Leprechaun".
The second was Australian movie Chopper, Cover art and Disc art a-ok. Then I popped it in, The Secretary starts playing. Bother.
