The Smiths are my favorite band. I stuttered a bit at created a thread, though, since they aren't very popular in the States.

Morrissey tells the stories of my life. And Johnny Marr, wow, I love his jangling guitar work.

A lot of their music has helped me through depression. I listen to each of their albums, as each is a masterpiece. Their career was short, but sweet. Morrissey is great solo, too, but I liked The Smiths better.

Louder Than Bombs is probably my favorite album by them.

My Top 10 Smiths songs:
1. Asleep (I want this played at my funeral)
2. I Know It's Over
3. Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want
4. Half A Person
5. There Is A Light That Never Goes Out
6. Well I Wonder
7. How Soon Is Now?
8. You Just Haven't Earned It Yet, Baby
9. Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me
10. Ask

If you have five seconds to spare, then I'll tell you the story of my life. Sixteen, clumsy, and shy.

You know, I hear a lot about "The Smiths" but never really went out of my way to listen. If you like "The Smiths" you might wanna try Brand New. I've heard they are heavily inspired by them.

What are some albums so I can get to downlo...err...go to FYE right now and buy them?

I know Brand New, they're pretty good. They're more lyrically influenced by The Smiths. Many "emoish" bands of today are.

I would suggest getting "Louder Than Bombs." It's a great mix. It's not a greatest hits, it's a collection of singles and b-sides.

I like Brand New, but to me there is no resemblence to the Smiths.

I haven't heard that much of The Smiths but I can't stop listening to Girlfriend in a Coma. Love that song.

I love The Smiths and There Is A Light That Never Goes Out is my favourite Smiths song.

However, i've never really got into Morrissey's solo work. I have heard a few songs that i liked: November Spawned a Monster and Irish Blood, English Heart. Where should i start to try and get into his solo work?

Managed to answer my question.

I got Morrissey's Greatest Hits and it is amazing! Especially from the first track "First of the Gang to Die" to "Everyday is Like Sunday" is a great run of songs.

My favourite Morrissey song used to be Irish Blood, English Heart but now it is I Just Want to See the Boy Happy and You Have Killed Me.

I recently bought this book as well: Mozipedia: The Encyclopaedia of "Morrissey" and the "Smiths" (http://www.amazon.com/Mozipedia-Encyclopaedia-Morrissey-Simon-Goddard/dp/0091927099/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1257124897&sr=8-1). Haven't had much of chance to flick through it yet but seems really good.

Here is a video of the great man himself performing my favourite song:

I found this awesome picture of Morrissey:

It was from when he was performing in Liverpool and some dickhead threw a bottle at him and he then stormed off stage. The article is here:

I still think it is a cool picture.
