I'm not sure how many of you have seen this 1993 film by Richard Linklater, but it's really one of the best movies I've ever seen. I remember seeing ads for it back in '93 and thinking, "That could be good," but I never made any concrete plans to see it.
One day, I found myself with nothing at all to do, so I checked the paper for what movies were playing. The only one showing close enough and at a time I could make was Dazed and Confused. Boy, am I glad I went, because I absolutely loved it! I went back and saw it 7 more times while it was playing. That's right... seven. I've never done that with any movie before or since.
When it hit VHS, I bought it. I got the advance and regular one-sheets along with the book. The 2006 Criterion Collection DVD of the film is just fantastic.
For those who have seen it, let's talk about it here. For those who have never seen it, check it out. You'll be glad you did.

Hell yeah man, I love this film. A straight up and down awesome cast and just a great feeling of nostalgia and recognition all the way through.
An excellent independent theatre about 2 hours from my house is showing this this month, I really want to go.

I'm not a drinker or smoker, but I love this movie.
It's such a fun movie and really makes me miss my youth when I did shit like that.

Yeah, I've never been a smoker or a drinker either but I always find myself entertained by stoner movies. I suppose it's just because I identify with slackers and slackers more often than not turn out to be stoners.
I agree that the days of driving around, not caring about anything but where you were gonna go next were pretty nice. I still get them some times, but not as ofter as I'd like.

Perfect depiction of mid 70s culture. I love this movie. :shy:
The scene where Tuesday's Gone starts playing is my favorite.
Loved the muscle cars, too.

Great movie, plus a pretty solid cast. Matthew McConaughey, Ben Affleck, Jason London, Cole Hauser, Milla Jonovich, Parker Posey, Joey Lauren Adams, and Adam Goldberg

You've got to see it! It's one of the best movies I've ever seen. The cast... the dialogue... the music... everything is really really good.
Muffin thinks you should see it too. :D

Does anyone know if the special edition of this is worth getting? It costs about twice as much as the regular edition at best buy. I'm talking about DVD's of course.

The Criterion Collection edition is wonderful, but I would suggest renting the movie first to make sure you like it enough to spend $30ish on it. I love the Criterion edition, but I love the film so getting it was a no-brainer for me. You know?

I think I would definetly like the movie if I saw it. I do love smoking weed, drinking, muscle cars and teen comedies in general. So I don't see why I wouldn't like this one.

Dazed is a lot like American Grafitti and Fast Times at Ridgemont High. It's focus is on the characters, and it does a wonderful job of creating a bunch of realistic characters that you actually like.... for the most part. There are a few you won't like, but that's normal.
I was in the mood to watch something scary tonight, but now I really want to see Dazed again!
wasn't sasha jensen in this?

The film shows how innocent the times were. Sure there was froshing and keg fights, but the era itself in the flick showed the "fun" side of school relationships. The soundtrack (KISS, Sabs, Purple, Coop, Naz) is one of my favorites for long car trips and backyard BBQs.
Adam Goldberg nailed his part too.

You know there are two different soundtracks.... right? There's Dazed and Confused and then there's Even More Dazed and Confused. The second one came out in '94 because the first one sold so well.

Yeah, I have the second one on cassette tape somewhere. They sure used some classy songs in that movie. :shy:

No kidding! I wish they could have put Sweet Emotion on one of them, but I have it on another disc. I'd imagine you do too. :)

They were wise to pick Sweet Emotion for the opening song. And No More Mr. Nice Guy for the paddling scenes.
And I have this song on five different compilations, including the original album it came out on.

One of the many great things about this film is its wise use of music to compliment the scenes. Like using Sweet Emotion in the film's opening; I can't imagine any other song there. Like you said... No More Mr. Nice Guy is prefect for the paddling scenes. Summer Breeze.... School's Out.... perfection.

Do you have the Criterion Collection 2-disc DVD? I got it the day it came out last summer, and I love it. The picture and sound are excellent, and the extras are above and beyond what I expected. It also comes with a poster and a book. The book repeats some material found in the 1993 "yearbook/memorabilia" book, but it also has some really nice new stuff.

Must be because you hit the 300 mark.

My older brother got me into this movie. He used to watch it all the time on VHS. I really like it alot. It's pretty funny.
Ben Affleck was funny in it. "Y'all ready to bust some ass?" LOL

It's amazing how much the football coach in this movie resembles the football coach my high school had in the 80s.
