Pick your least favorite ending to a Friday the 13th.I picked part 8 seeing Jason turn back into a little boy just confused me.

I went with Part VIII. I almost said Part VII because of the dad jumping up and looking just fine and dandy thank you very much always bugged me. However, having Jason appear as a little kid after taking a toxic waste bath was just plain bad.

It looks like a Part 8 sweep so far! 8 gets my vote as well

Part 8 has the worst ending. If the whole Jason turning into a non-deformed child wasn't bad enough, the fake scare with the dog popping up, really topped it off.

Part 8 had the dumbest ending from the idea to Jason having no disfiguration and a full set of hair. That ending was just crap. When I watch the movie, as soon as they get to the toxic waste washing Jason away that is where I press the stop button.

Friday 7, tied with Nightmare 2, have the all-time worst ending for popular horror movies.

Part VII's ending would've been so much better had they been able to keep Tina's dad in makeup, but I gotta go with Part V for the worst ending. The dream fakeout, and then Tommy seemingly becoming the next killer...lame.

Thac, I'm sorry, but after surviving electricity, a sofa and roof dropped on him, falling through stairs, set on fire and an explosion... Jason can't take a wife-beating water-logged zombie underwater? Sorry, no sale.

And let's say Buechler's design was used... okay, Jason can't take a wife-beating skeleton? I'm afraid makeup couldn't save it.

TNB was bad, but JTM was way worse and totally stupid.

I don't even count JTM as an entry to the franchise.

So for me Part 7 was the worst.
He starts out... tied up at the bottom of the lake,
the at the end, he ends up ....

tied at the bottom of the lake.

WTF!!!!!

I don't like the JGTH ending. The little alien looking thing coming out of Jason, and Freddy's glove pulling him under....stupid.

Definitely the ending to JTM. That was so friggin stupid. And when they showed Jason, his look wasn't consistent with the way he looked in TNB.

The Tall Man
07-20-2007, 09:06 PM
Okay gang, you guys gotta stop with this "why aren't the looks consistant"? They bring on different makeup men each time and they all want to make their own mark on the character (think of it as pissing on him) so they create their own makeup designs. It's just the way Hollywood makeup men are. The sooner you accept that part, the less angrified you'll be.

Luckily, the JX and FvsJ makeup men used the Friday 4 makeup design for his face (if you've ever seen the stills of Jason's face in FvsJ you'll see it's spot on)

If TNB had left in Jason popping up at the end to kill the fisherman, I don't think it'd be nearly as bad. JTM, it's just does stuff that a) was too deep for a Jason flick and b) without a proper explaination.

I hate the endings of TNB ant JTM.

TNB: The Ghost-Dad ending was stupid. The ending in the ambulance "whoooo we survived and Jason is gone" seemed rushed and too short.

JTM: New Yorks sewer gets flooded with acid every night? WTF! Jason melting into a boy? That stupid dog manages to find the couple in that Metropol? Rennie and Sean deciding to go to the Statue of Liberty (hello? You just survived a mass-murder ... how about contacting the cops?)!

Hmm. I go with JTM here.

I had to say Part 8 here. Every other "Friday the 13th" movie has something great about the ending... from beautiful shots of a lake to a decapitated head to the "to be continued"-type endings (Tommy looking psycho, Jason being alive underwater, Jason coming up out of the water).

With part 8, you get a stupid Jason demise, and a shot of NYC with a bad 80's song playing. Hell, even Jason X had a fun ending with the couple saying "let's go check it out" and then a shot of the hockey mask.

I said Part VIII. Part 3 was a close second, but Chris's false visions induced by madness made a hell of a lot more sense that Jason getting washed out in toxic waste that floods the NYC sewer out nightly. I backed Hedden on most everything else, but with that little nugget, he was on his own.

The Tall Man
08-02-2007, 06:31 AM
David, it may interest you that in Hedden's script, it's noted that NYC sewers wash out with toxic waste on the 13th of every month. Why they changed that, who knows?

I remember reading that somewhere, Tall. I actually read the entire Part VIII script on the old Friday Films site, the one that Blake W. transcribed. It had a lot of differences in it. The opening with Jim and Suzi was longer and everything. I guess that maybe they saw it as too cliche' or something to have the wash out be on the 13th only. I agree though, they should've went with that instead. I guess we'll never know why they changed it. I wish that it was explained in the CLM book. Then again, I haven't read the whole thing, so maybe I might be overlooking it.

I find it interetsing that many seem to equate "end" with Jaosn's defeat, which is oftne not the case.

Part 7 is a prime example, amny saying the dad was an anti-climax. But that wasn't the climax. The climax was Tina vs Jason, the big showdown in the house, he's dowsed in flames and the explosion. THAT'S the ending.

What we get after is based more on Tina's character, a coda where her father can be seen to save her by dragging the already defeated Jason back down to be imprisoned again.

"hey our dogs ok, let's go sight seeing!"

Ha! I never really thought about that. In the other movies, the characters were certainly more broken up at the end. But at least Part 8 had a chase sequence (as lame as one might argue it to be) and Jason meant business. JGTH, on the other hand, had no chase and Jason seemed to be stalling for time.

I liked the TNB ending. Completely forgot about Tina's Dad. The makeup was the only thing that made it bad at all.

JTM. Thing that bothered me was lil Jason being a normal boy.

I'm voting Jason Takes Manhattan, but not because of child Jason lying in the toxic waste. I'm willing to roll with that bit because I've always been of the opinion that we're seeing things from Rennie's perspective, and Rennie is the archetypal Unreliable Narrator. I don't think Jason literally regressed into a child, that's just what our (murky and confused) window into the film is showing us.

My problem is with the scenes that occur after that. It just rubs me wrong. I would have liked a fake out ending (I know we didn't get them in the previous two films, but those films were strong enough on their own not to need them) but more importantly I can't stand that corny low shot from the dog's POV as it "sneaks up on" the leads. Ugh.

WOLF

Part 7 was bad. The zombie dad couldn't take Jason...but part 6 established that returning him to the lake will stop him.

I don't like part 8's ending, but I never thought Jason turned into a kid. Rennie saw Jason as a kid whenever she saw him...it was a vision. So when Jason was dead at the end, her vision died too.

I really dislike Jason flying towards the ship in Jason X. The whole scene with Brodski flying out of nowhere was awful. They didn't have the money to do the scene correctly, so they shouldn't have done it.

I hate the ending of Part 7 when Tina's father is resurrected. That was the moment when any semblance of realism that still existed in the series (hah!) was destroyed forever.

I'm torn between part 8 and JX.
Yah, Rennie seeing Jason turn into a kid was supposed to be her imagination, but the whole movie was still really lame and the ending didn't change or fix that.
JasonX had Broadski ride Jason into the atmosphere of Earth 2. The only thing that would have been more lame is if Broadski had stood up and road him like a surf board.
Even though they are both terrible movies I have to go with 8.

Oh no, I didn't hate it, I just felt it paled in comparison. And I kinda thought that jason would have his head demolished, but no dice.

Still, it lacked a lot of elements of the original 8's finales, e.g. running through the campsite and running into all the dead bodies/fistfighting etc.

Not counting JX because everything about that movie was terrible, The New Blood was a totally disappointing ending. TNB is probably overall one of the weaker entries of the series but the final chase scene was decently entertaining because Tina could actually fight back. But when her dead daddy popped out of the lake and pulled Jason under that was just LAME.

VII and VIII both have bad endings. Part VIII's takes the cake with the way Rennie and Sean acted after it was all over. Why should either of them give a shit about the Statue of Liberty when all their friends we're dead. Hell, Rennie was more responsible for Colleen's death than Jason was, and yet it was aaaalll good when Toby the dog showed up.

The less said about the toxic bath, the better. :(

I still remember the entire theater laughing at the end of Jason X when Brodski comes out of nowhere and rides Jason in an almost sexual position as they burn up in the atmosphere.

I don't think they should have made Freddy wink at the end of FVJ. Freddy basically kicked the crap out of Jason during the entire film. The leadt they could have given Jason was the moment in victoy with Freddy's head without and shenanagans.
