The Stones definitely rule.

I knew of them and was familiar with a few of their songs when I was a kid, but my first real exposure to the group was in 1989. My best friend's older brother had 4 tickets to see the Stones play the Cotton Bowl on their Steel Wheels Tour. My friend (JJ) and I went along with his brother and his girlfriend one cool evening in November, and the experience blew me away.

The massive stage was unlike anything I had ever seen, and the 2.5 hour set list featured songs I loved and several I had never heard before (like 2000 Light Years From Home and Tumblin' Dice) but instantly took a liking to. I recorded the Pay-Per-View special from Atlantic City a month later and watched it over and over again. I eventually found a 4-CD box set of that concert (Atlantic City Live '89) that's very rare and is the pride of my CD collection.

I got to see them again in 1994 on the Voodoo Lounge Tour at the Cotton Bowl amongst 55,000 other fans and again in 1997 on the Bridges to Babylon Tour. I most recently saw then on the Bigger Bang Tour, and I still love them as much as ever.

The Stones are easily my favorite rock band, and put one one of the best shows I've ever seen (the only other act that touches them live, in my experience, is Bruce Springsteen). I've seen them on three different tours, Bridges to Babylon, Forty Licks, and A Bigger Bang, and I'm always amazed at the level of energy these guys have at their age. And their recording output from around 1968-72 was incredible...Beggar's Banquet, Let It Bleed, Sticky Fingers and Exile on Main St. Unbelievable that these guys were able to pull off four of the greatest rock records of all time is such a short period. The Stones rule!

Fave songs (no particular order):
Sympathy for the Devil
Gimme Shelter
Midnight Rambler
Let it Bleed
Angie
It's Only Rock & Roll
Brown Sugar
You Can't Always Get What You Want
Ruby Tuesday
Let's Spend the Night Together
Love Is Strong
Honky Tonk Woman
Tumbling Dice
Jumpin' Jack Flash
Rocks Off
Rip This Joint
Mixed Emotions
Miss You
Beast of Burden
Slipping Away
Little T&A
Start Me Up
Heartbreaker
Sway
Bitch
Heart of Stone
Waiting on a Friend
Rough Justice
Streets of Love
Saint of Me
Almost Hear You Sigh
Wild Horses

I found some of my old Stones cassettes in a box. I think I'll go out in the garage later and listen to them.

Which albums you gonna be listening to Shoesalesman? Or are they mix tapes? I just listened to A Bigger Bang again earlier today, and considering that it's an album made by four senior citizens, it really rocks. Probably their best since Tattoo You.

A few are mix tapes. But I found Sticky Fingers, Voodoo Lounge, Tattoo You...

I really like Voodoo Lounge...not their best by a long shot, but much better than most other late-career albums like Steel Wheels and Bridges to Babylon, IMO

Just got back from seeing Shine a Light, and I can say, any serious fan of the band must see this film. It is truly amazing.

The one Stones song that I have been hooked on all year is "One Hit (To the Body)" from the Dirty Work album. You can't much find the album anywhere anymore, but iTunes has the full album. Though, why it has never appeared on any compilation is beyond my comprehension. Absolutely GREAT song! This was at the time when the tension was high in the band, especially between Mick & Keith. It shows in the song, but it produced such raw energy and aggression. Plus, Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin some lead guitar work on the track. Here's the music video for it:

I own...

Sticky Fingers
Exile on Main St.
Goats Head Soup
It's Only Rock 'n' Roll
Some Girls
Tattoo You

Anyway I'm thinking of doing a Rolling Stone marathon this weekend...I've never given them much of a listen to despite owning all of those albums.
