Hey, it's just like 'Archie Meets The Punisher'! (http://www.dailystab.com/pineapple-express-and-superbad-crossover/)...well, maybe not...

MTV recently asked James Franco about the possibility of a Pineapple Express sequel and he answered that not only has it been discussed, but it could get a taste of some real McLovin. Franco said:

“Even before ‘Superbad’ came out, I think the studio was trying to get [Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg] to write a sequel, but they really didn’t want to write a sequel. I guess the kids would go to college or something like that [that was the studio’s idea]. And so, an answer to that was to do a ‘Superbad’/’Pineapple Express’ crossover, an unprecedented crossover movie with two directors, Greg Motolla and David Gordon Green, each directing half of the movie and somehow these characters get together, which doesn’t make sense at all, but could work.”

Rogen himself has stated that he’d be interested in a “Pineapple” sequel, but how would he combine the two different plots? Especially since Rogan was in both movies? Franco adds:

“I could sell them [the characters from ‘Superbad’] something, but I think we’d want some action, so you know, somehow the kids get in trouble somehow and we have to get them out of it. “And Seth plays characters in both movies, so somehow we’d have to kill one of them off.”

And Franco’s character Saul? The drug dealing, pot smoking, hippie based at least in part on Brad Pitt’s performance in “True Romance”?

“The thing about Saul is that I don’t really think he goes anywhere,” Franco laughed. “That’s his tragedy.”

Could it work?

I have yet to see Pineapple Express.

Actually the fact that the seth rogan guy was both characters could work really well. He could actually be doing his job serving people their things and then eventually become a cop with his buddy character from superbad. Then have that franco guy come in later and mix them all together into one plot. It would obviously have to take place way after pineapple express. and after superbad.

Interesting. Off the top of my head, I can't think of any other non-horror/sci-fi crossovers.

Non-horror/sci-fi crossovers seem to happen more in television than in film. I suppose they could make it work, but it'd be one hell of an odd marriage.

Might as well throw Harold and Kumar in there too! :)

doesn't seem like the best idea, I want Rogen to do something different, like The Green Hornet, and not concentrate on sequels...yet

I never "got" the whole McLovin thing to begin with. He was mildly amusing in the beginning of the film, but then he just became downright annoying. The only thing I found more annoying than seeing his face on screen was the amount of praise he got from 'McLovin fans' that saw the movie.

This would be interesting...I loved both Superbad and Pineapple Express.

If it were up to me, the only returning characters in any kind of follow up to Superbad would be the two cops played by Seth Rogan and Bill Hader. Matter of fact, had Superbad been about nobody else but the cops, I'd have liked it a lot more.

Maybe instead of a Superbad/Pineapple Express crossover, they should do a crossover with the cops from Superbad and the cops from Super Troopers.

the name McLovin' has just become second nature to me, not as a character, but just the name itself has become something I frequently call people, that's why I find that aspect of the movie so damn funny
