This show is one of my all time favorites so...after finding out that some of you guys like it as well...it's only fair we should have a thread about it...

Bunny and Poppa Bear will probably like this thread... ;)

Welcome everyone...let's talk about this amazing show...

My mom let me know that this show is showing on some new cable station now. I was excited. Haven't actually got the chance to watch any episodes but I hope too. Winnie was hot towards the end.

I love this show, have since I was a kid.

However, there have been many times when I just wanted to beat the living #$%@ out of Kevin for being a whiney little punk. I found there was often no reason for the way treated his father in certain episodes. Also, he could never finish anything he started, mostly because the activity became too hard.

And what was with the girls that he always got with? Like I said I always found him to be a whiny little bitch. And he didn't even hit puberty until the 3rd-4th season! Yet he always found a cute girl that was seriously interested in him.

LOL....Kevin was really cute too, that's why he'd always find someone interested in him...

I found Winnie annoying sometimes....she just wouldn't make up her mind and that was mean to Kev.

This show is on Ion Television here in north Texas every weeknight from 9:00 to 10:00. I loved it when I was a teenager, and I love it now.

Lance Lives..... heck yeah.... Winnie Cooper was definitely a hottie toward the end of the show. I think every guy my age had a crush on her. Have you seen her lately? Google her, and you'll see what I mean.... It'll make your day. :)

Yeah this was my favorite show growing up. I tried my best to be like Kevin Arnold. I preferred the junior high years over the high school years.

It's a shame that the reason the DVDs for this show are being held up is because of stupid music rights issues.

I just saw a picture of her in Stuff...she is indeed, very nice looking to this day. Also, when was this show produced? I remember watching it when I was little and thinking it was made in the era the show was set.

It ran from 1988 to 1993.

Interesting bit of trivia: the chick that played Winnie, in addition to being smoking hot, graduated Summa Cum Laude from UCLA with a mathematics major. She co-authored a paper that proves a mathematical theorem.

I loved this show my fav had to be Kevin's brother Wayne he was funny as hell

Jason Hervey (Wayne) can now be seen on VH1's "Scott Baio is 45 and Single." He's one of Scott's friends. And Blake's right.... Danica McKellar is a mathematics genius, and her sister (who played Becky Slater on Wonder Years) is now a lawyer.

Does anyone remember the rumor from about 10 or 12 years ago that the guy who played Paul was Marilyn Manson? It was totally untrue, but I remember people actually believed it for a while!

What would you do if I sang out of tune? Would you stand up and walk out on me?

Well, with the Cocker lyrics out of the way, I used to love this show when it was syndicated on Nick at Nite. Fred Savage's Kevin Arnold was definitely the real thing as far as the early-mid '60s tween goes. I pretty much learned just about everything that I know about the sixties from this show. Kevin got himself into some pretty deep shit in a lot of those episodes. I remember the one where he was throwing just a small party at his house that turned into a fucking behemoth. I also remember the one where he ran against, was it Becky Slater?, for class president. Her banners and campaign was so expensive and professional looking, while Kevin and Paul just did the best that they could with large paper and paint. My personal favorite was the one where Kevin's parents were fighting and Kevin knew that if he did something wrong, they would both punish him and start talking again, so he catapulted potatoes into Wayne's face, to no avail except pissing Wayne off. "WHILE YOU SLEEP, PAL."

Wow, I forgot Paul! Paul = a very cool character that everyone seems to forget :D. I LOVED the Wonder Years! This show much like Boy Meets World (which i also love to death! Those damn Savage boys churning out hits...) had alot of great messages which helped me personally when growing up. It made me a sucker for romance/love and taught several great lessons.

And yes, there were times I wish i could hit Kevin a flying jump kick for being a big pu$$y. From day 1 I thought Winnie was hot, her long hair was to die for...

thanks girly for starting this thread:) I do love this show, I've been watching the re-runs every chance I've gotten this summer, the main reason I love this show is because it shows kids growing up in the 60's, just like me at one point, although the characters on this show are about 4 years older than I was at the time

I actually grew up with a girl like Winnie Cooper, and though I was probably just as close to her as Kevin is to Winnie, I never had a major crush on her like Kevin did on Winnie

girlychaos

Never thought Winnie was "hot" even towards the end of the show.

I couldn't agree more...not only because I'm a girl...I just never found her cute at all.

Wheat: I remember the thing about Paul being Marilyn Manson. LOL

Poppa Bear: You don't have to thank me at all...I love this show too! ;)

CanadianFonzie

about Winnie...I'm obviously too old to think she was cute, but I know that what so many guys liked about her was that she was a polite and nice girl, a kind of girl everyone would want

nowadays I think she is completely beautiful though

girlychaos
07-19-2007, 04:00 AM
She is pretty now but I don't think she was back then at all. But yeah...the character was really polite and all...I get why most of the guys would find her cute anyway.

According to Wikipedia, Julie Condra did a few guest appearances on TV shows like Married... with Children and Walker Teaxs Ranger after leaving The Wonder Years. She got married in 1998 and had a kid in 2000. Her last project listed on that site is a 2000 TV movie about two Playboy bunnies in the 1960s called A Tale of Two Bunnies.

I remember being really upset with the final episode's closing narration. Nothing turned out like I wanted it to. I'm good with it now though. Years of therapy have helped me deal with the cruel realities of sitcoms..... ;)

Haha about the Marilyn Mansion rumour. That was all I heard about in high school. pssst did you know that Mariyln Manson played Paul on the wonders years? They do kinda look a like.

I saw Jason Hervey on Criss Angel Mindfreak the other day.

Wheatjedi
07-20-2007, 04:31 AM
Wayne would be a jerk in real life, but he was soooo annoying on that show that I just had to laugh at how awful he was to Kevin. And let's face it.... sometimes Kevin deserved it. You know?

CanadianFonzie
07-20-2007, 04:33 AM
I liked the few times they actually acted like good brothers, but I always more enjoyed the episodes more based around Kevin and his friends, especially the episodes assiciated with Winnie Cooper

Wheatjedi
07-20-2007, 04:36 AM
....especially the episodes assiciated with Winnie Cooper

Yeah.... no kidding. Winnie..... :shy:  I think every guy I knew in school had a little crush on her at some point. It made me so mad when Kevin would act like an idiot with her.

CanadianFonzie
07-20-2007, 04:39 AM
well I obviously didn't have a crush on her cause I was in my 30's at the time of the show (although now she's at a legal age for me to say she is HOT) but still, I always liked seeing the romance in shows, call me a nacy boy or whatever, but seeing Kevin and Winnie together, be it as friends or lovers, I just loved seeing that, like I said before, I grew up with a girl like Winnie, only I didn't have a crush on her like Kevin, but seeing them together reminds me of me and my Winnie Cooper growing up

Wheatjedi
07-20-2007, 04:42 AM
I always like it when Kevin and Winnie were getting along too. That was one of the things about the closing narration in the finale that I didn't like. I would have rather they let the viewers decide how things ended up with them.

CanadianFonzie
07-20-2007, 04:44 AM
yah the finale, like almost every finale for a great show, made me cry, lol

Wheatjedi
07-20-2007, 04:47 AM

girlychaos
07-20-2007, 04:50 AM
That's really sweet, Poppa Bear...

And yeah....they were so cute together...I just got mad when she'd treat him bad and when she had other boyfriends...

The last episode was sad but beautiful in many ways.

Wheatjedi
07-20-2007, 04:53 AM
I'd get mad when he would treat her bad! I didn't like her other boyfriends though. She should have been with Kevin..... or me. :D

Ah Winnie....

Did anyone see Danica in that SciFi movie last year about killer storms? Stupid movie, but I didn't exactly watch it for the story.

Do you remember David Schwimmer being on The Wonder Years? He played the guy who married Kevin's sister. I'd completely forgotten until I saw him in an episode a little while ago.

CanadianFonzie
07-20-2007, 05:05 AM
I just saw him in an episode today, so it's funny you mention, also last Thursday or Friday they played his first episode on the show

I haven't seen him....but I always thought his character was really funny...annoying sometimes, but funny.

What was he doing on Criss Angel btw?

Criss Angel always seems to have a random celebrity when he does a trick out in public. He says something like [puts on new jerzey accent] "I'd like to welcome my good friend Jason, you've seen him from the wonder years." (every celebrity is his good friend;))

Basically he swore on his children that he didn't know how Criss Angel did the trick. If I'm not mistaken it was card trick and the correct card wound up inside of Jason Hervey's hotdog. Or was it an eclair? I can't remember:confused:

Wheatjedi
07-20-2007, 05:10 AM
Not too many episodes. I just remember a few. They got married and disappeared for the most part. They turned up a few times after that.

no more in the middle, the wedding was a later season though, but they started dating during Kevin's grade 9 year, which was pretty centred in the shows run

Yeah.... Jack definitely didn't like him. He didn't seem to care for hippies. :)

CanadianFonzie
07-20-2007, 05:23 AM
well I didn't care for hippies either, so we were on the same boat, lol

Wheatjedi
07-20-2007, 05:28 AM
I never knew any hippies, but something about that character bugged me. He wasn't a bad guy. He just bugged me.

CanadianFonzie
07-20-2007, 05:31 AM
the one reason I never liked hippies was one words, drugs, but Michael (David Schwimmer) didn't seem like that kind of guy, though I bet he was

Wheatjedi
07-20-2007, 05:35 AM
Yeah.... they never showed that aspect of his character, but there were probably some in there somewhere. I'm sure they wanted him to be seen as a non-threatening guy so make the conflict between him and the dad more interesting.

girlychaos
07-20-2007, 07:10 AM
I kind of remember it now...but I didn't know it was David Schwimmer....well, it's been a long time since I watched it.

CanadianFonzie
07-20-2007, 10:02 PM
somethign I found interesting about the show was the father son relationship, Kevin at so many points in the show seemed to hate his dad for being so stubborn and all, yet he always wanted his dad to be proud of him because it meant the world to him

Ron
07-21-2007, 06:43 PM
kevin and his father's relationship is like my relationship with my father. kevin always wanted to be equal to his father in so many ways and had a strong admiration for him. wayne on the other hand was just a lovable douche bag.

girlychaos
07-22-2007, 04:36 AM
Wayne really was something! LOL

CanadianFonzie
07-22-2007, 04:38 AM
but there WERE times where you could tell Kevin was fed up with his fathers stubborness, and their uncomfortable times together, so it wasn't common that they showed each other love

I think the show really captured the time period.

One of the best shows ever! Unlike other shows (Dawson's Creek, I'm looking at you) I never got tired of the Kevin/Winnie seesaw of love, and who wouldn't want a mom like Mrs. Arnold. The music was great (Which is sadly why we will never see the show on DVD in its original form, much like WKRP) and I was always in love with Olivia d'Abo.

I have to say though, Coach Cutlip was my favorite character of all.

Like I said in the Full House thread, they don't make them like this anymore.

CanadianFonzie
07-23-2007, 07:22 PM
the best song they played on this show, well I think it was the most perfectly timed atleast, was on the first episode, Kevin and Winnie's first kiss, and they played When a Man Loves a Woman

I was watching todays episode and Kevin just turned 16 and got his liscence, those were the days, they have this stupid g1 g2 crap and my son has to wait a certain amount of time, it's all bullshit, not like in my day...just something I wanted to get off my chest
