I like the opening scene of part 2 and Freddy's speech at the start of Freddy vs. Jason (although that is part of what made that movie more of a nightmare on Elmstreet featuring Jason).

2, the rehash of Part 1 plus Jason's first kill.

Part 6 gets my vote. That graveyard scene is just too cool.

I voted for Final Chapter, when they talk about the Urban Legend Jason and show the flashbacks.

Yeah, Part 4 was also great... my second favorite.

It also is up there with TNB.

I have got to go with Part 1 (who councelors are stalked and murdered by an unseen/unknown up to that point assassin) and Part 5 (Tommy's opening Dream).

Part 1 definitely had the scariest opening.

I should have (but didn't think of it) voted for Part 2 as well. The little kid singing Itsy Bitsy Spider is stalked by someone (who later on turns out to be Jason). All you see is the legs and hear the scary music. Then Alice's death is very scary and suspensful. That whole opening is awesome.

I can't vote for Part 4's because that isn't really part 4's. It is a re-used scene from Part 2.

I agree about Parts 1 and 2...
Part 4 and 7 don't really count for me, since they are just flashbacks.

Has to be Jason Lives, which is also my favorite scene of the entire series.

JL beginning was hot but TNB got my vote..it gives you a boost that this movie was very watchable if your a JV fan! "a killer buried but not dead" "they said that he died as a boy but he keeps coming back" that stuff gives ya goosebumps!

I've got to go with Part 2's opening. The title, the music, the flashbacks to Part 1, the concept of Jason tracing Alice to her apartment, and the overall suspense of it made it the most kick ass opening of the saga. Part VI's graveyard resurrection, Part V's nightmare (Jason's only kills in the film), and Part IV's epic montage come in close right behind it.

Yeah the music at the beginning of 2 was great. Wasn't there a cello?

Yep.

I liked the first film because everything looks innocent and peaceful, right before we see Pamela walk through the cabin and looks at each child laying there. Almost makes you think that she's thinking about killing one of the children, but then she leaves without doing anything. Then we find out her who her true target is. Great music and a great set up.

I like the second film because Miner found a way to set up the feet motif throughout the film. Where we see the kid playing out in the puddles, narrowly avoiding Jason as he stalks his way to Alice's home. I love the cue here as it's similar to the first film, but it's darker and more sinister.

I didn't put the third film because while it is a flashback to the end sequence from two, there's nothing new here. I love the fourth film's opening because the opening sets us up for what was to be the final story. From Paul's recounting of the history, with flashbacks to the previous entries, to a powerful opening theme to the post credits sequence that takes us back to the third film. Revisiting the Higgens Haven set was a nice touch and Manfredini's cue here serves to add weight to the lives lost in the previous chapter.

The fifth film has a good start, but not as good as the sixth film. There's a greater sense of urgency, as opposed to the mystery in the fifth film. It's fitting as Tommy is in a rush to beat the bad weather, so he can burn Jason's corpse and then the rush to get away from the resurrected Jason.

The seventh film has a good prologue recapping the previous films, but they only focus on the ones where Jason was predominat. Nothing from the third, first or fifth films are used. Which is a bit disappointing. The eighth film doesn't do anything for me. It doesn't even feel like a Friday film. "Darkest Side Of Night" is a decent song, but it's not the same as having Manfredini's music as work.

JGTH is okay, but there's something missing that keeps it off my list. I cannot quite pin it down though. JX is bland compared to what was initially planned. It would've been better to have the newspaper clippings, highlighting Jason's history.

FvsJ works because we've got Freddy recounting his past, which we get to see and I find it is fitting for his story. Though we are denied a similar treatment for Jason, we do get the traditional stalk and kill sequence. Unfortunately, we don't have a killer opening credit sequence. Instead we get a little bit and then some song that I'm not interested in. This would've been a good time to play Freddy's theme and Jason's theme. Or at least have Manfredini compose this one track.

I think Pamela was looking for the two who she killed. I don't believe they were killed for their actions THAT night, but they were probably doing what they did every night.

Part VI. It's so atmospheric, and I love the music in that sequence.

No, I think she knew where they were. I think she was wandering around in there pysching herself up.

My favorite beginning was definitely that of The Final Chapter. I love that they start at the location of the previous film, which is now a crime scene. But my absolute favorite part about it is when all of the ambulances drive off and the cabin is just left in the dark, and everything is quiet, as if nothing ever happened. I think it gives it sort of a creepy feeling.

To me, Jason Lives has the best beginning.

Take care and God bless.

I voted for TFC, JX and FvsJ:

TFC had the best "flashback" with Paul´s campfire storyx. the opening at Higgin´s Haven at night with all the bodies was wonderful.

JX´s main title sequence is awesome. the "Jason chained up sequence" with the closeup on his eyes is great.

And FvsJ´s opening still give me goosebumps!

I voted for Part 2 because I just enjoy the idea of having the hero from the original be Jason's first kill.

I voted for Final Chapter, when they talk about the Urban Legend Jason and show the flashbacks.

That's a cool scene but it relied so heavily on the campfire scene from Part 2 that I can't really give it points for originality. Just great editing and music. I think I read somewhere that Zito didn't want to do that flashback sequence but the producer insisted.

For me, it's a tie between Parts 1 and 2.

The beginning of Part 1 was creepy, seeing the POV shot of the killer walking through the cabin with the kids sleeping. The shot of Crystal Lake at night with the full moon really set the tone for the film.

Part 2's opening was great too.......very suspenseful. We also get to see Jason's first kill, which was a good one.

And once again....The Final Chapter wins it again for me. I love the opening campire montage that shows Jason's victims from the previous films. Great stuff. Done very well.

*sigh*

Jason Lives wins again. I mean, it was kind of fun, but I didn't find it atmospheric, nor creepy, or with a good score. It just....

Anyways, Parts 1 and 2 were my favorite beginnings. Creepy stalking, and surprise kill!

I thought the beginning was very weak, it did nothing for the rest of the film... except for bringing Jason back.

I know! It's fun on paper, but for a Friday flick, it just came off as one of the lamest gimmicks ever! Gah! The comedy in it (and the rest of the damn film) completely killed any sense of dread the previous five brought along. Major dissapointment...and yet, there's another vote for Part VI. :( Will the madness ever end?

I pointed out in another thread how ridiculous Jason looked in this film- the round mask, incorrect marking, he GRABBED gloves? WTF? His hands cold... and again the tool belt, hahaha... Surprised he didn't go looking for a toolbox.

LMAO! The toolbelt was a ridiculous idea. If he had a toolbox, that would've been it for me, haha.

The mask was poorly chosen. And the gloves...well...you can't explain the gloves. They're there, on the screen, for all to mock. :) Except the die-hard fans of Jason Lives, who will defend it to the death, just because it's Jason Lives. *shakes head* Oh, the humanity! The look is growing on me, but it'll forever be goofy.

The toolbelt made Jason look like a carpenter in it, haha!

The gloves were simple, a cheap attempt at not spending time and resources in designing prosthetics for Jason's hands.

The mask, to me, I can't get behind it. It looks silly and way too.... sterile? Is that the best word?

As for the toolbelt... Jason has some damn good aim for only having one eye and being dead for a handful of years.

Part 1 without a doubt. Annie walking into the Diner, people freezing when she mentions Crystal Lake, and the story the Enos told. That set the tone for the whole franchise.

You can thank parts 3 and 4 for Jason look in part 6.As for the gloves thing the final chapter did dumb ass things with Jasons hands with those black fingernails.

Part 6 was a start for Jasons look to finally get better thanks to Buechler for part 7.

The mask was a little overkill on the whole round thing. But the mask didn't look good until part 7 imo.

Tool belt didn't bother me was it so big that it covered Jason no it was so small of subject that i could'nt concentrate on it cause of the rest of the action. In fact i thought it was good to see a change something new not part 3 and 4 for 10 more movies.

I really liked the beginning of part 2 because of the long build up to the death of Alice. That is what I voted for.
The 'recap montages' at the beginning of The Final Chapter and The New Blood were also well done but as much as I liked them, I don't really count them because they weren't a part of those film's story.
The first 20-or so minutes of Friday The 13th (2009) was awesome. If it were on the poll (and it makes sense that it wasn't since this thread was created over a year before the film's release), I would have voted for it.

Just to throw this out there, I also think that the newest film had the best opening credit sequence (the decapitation of Mrs. Voorhees.).

I think Jason Lives, Jason Goes to Hell and the remake have the best opening sequences of the series.

I voted
1,2,3,8

1 because I liked the opening at the summer camp with the music, and the person slowly walking through the dorm room, it was pretty creepy and Harry's score was perfectly setting the mood.. I like the Ki Ki Ma Ma that the killer was hearing in his/her head.

2 because I love how Jason steps into that puddle and walks over to Alice's house.

3 because I loved Jason getting up from the shack, and wondering down to civilization like a wild bear and stealing clothes.. it was pretty creepy when Edna looks out the window and Jason steps behind a towel

lastly 8 because I like how the beginning starts in NewYork City and the Darkest side is playing.. I like how the logo isn't too fancy and just fades in, it seems perfect for this movie. Feels very late 80's!
