So now that John "Dusk" Klyza has taken the reins of the premier F13 site, what are your thoughts? Speculation on new content? I gots no idea what Dusk will add/change, though I'll bet some of you with F13 sites are sending him stuff right now. ;) I'm really interested to see what happens, especially when franchise news finally comes down. How will this new site react?
All in all I've got a very positive outlook on F13Films, I think Dusk is a good horror webmaster and I look forward to seeing just what he has in store for JABOSN VORS

I think he will do good job, as good as his other sites. The site itself really didn't have a lot of content so I am sure he will add a lot.

I don't even know what John's going to do, but I'm looking forward to it! I'm still in the picture, I'm just down there in the corner hiding behind the plant. Yeah, right there. That's me.
The DNS problems (what's been keeping some people from accessing the site) are pretty much cleared up now. Of course by saying that, I've doomed us all! Seriously though, stuff's still wonky. Sorry.

Yay, it works for me now.
I emailed Dusk basically thanking him for stepping up to the plate with the site and basically said that although I am not very computer savy, if there is anything I can do, I'd be glad to do it. He responded and seemed like a very cool person, so I think he will continue Fridaythe13thFilm.com's legacy in a good way.
Hey, Jason always dies at the end of a movie and comes back to life in the next sequel, so there is no reason why the Jason website wouldn't. :D

I think it was a visual thing. People thought the site was bare-bones because there wasn't a ton of screencaps & videos, no wacky animated crap crowding in on the home page, etc. But if you peruse the site you do find a lot of visual media - stills, storyboards, comics and lobby cards for starters.

I'm hopeful that it will continue to be the best F13 website.
The Friday site was never as fancy as some of the other websites, but it has the most info on the Friday series that I have ever seen. That is why I like it so much. I don't need to type in a url and have to wait to get passed some dumb flashy advertisement pop-up before the actual site loads. I hate that. I don't need all the moving banners and shit. All I need from a Fridaythe13th website is info, history, pictures, and all kinds of stuff. That site is perfect.

As yet this forum is not affiliated with the original site.
Obviously it's something we admins have discussed, but there's no news as yet. We'll keep you posted.
I think it would make more sense to just have this board linked to the website instead of making yet another new board.
The Dark Vampire
07-18-2007, 07:10 PM
I agree but I think what they have to consider is a few things
The new guy will obviously want to bring in a few of his guys as mods-admins
He may only want to run a forum what covers the F13th movies and nothing else so other movies -sports-TV games-the personal list sand games- and well as the bit we tend to use the most The Campfire may have to be removed which I know we don't want to happen
On the other hand he seems to know the old site and liked how it was run so may want to leave it as it.
sCabbOy
07-18-2007, 07:15 PM
It's as simple as putting a link... f13 community.
and even his own "official" forum.
You have good points Dark Vamp. Well, it isn't the board itself, but the people on it that make it, so as far as forum wise, I'm sticking with you guys on here. If Dusk makes his own board and wants to make those kind of of changes I'll justs stay here. Dusk seems like a really cool guy though. I honestly don't see him wanting to be a board tyrant or anything like that.

sorry. for some reason I thought indefinite meant something along the lines of permanent. My fault.
I'm not sure if no-forum lasts indefinitely, but will definitely look into clarifying that, the ball's in Blake's court there and I'll stick with all agreed-upon terms.
I'm still transferring a copy of the site's files to my hard-drive, so only front-page updates for now, but when I have it complete on my local machine I'll start adding to the sections.
I just wonder why that guy's Sleepaway Camp site does not cover the original. That does not make a whole lot of sense to me. Don't get me wrong, I did not like the original Sleepaway Camp at all, but it is part of the series.
I do cover the first film, but I've just dumped it all onto its own seperate section/showcase so as not to confuse my official status.

Well, we have this forum, we don't need Dusk to make another one. All I said was that Dusk should provide a link to this one on his sight. That's all. I never said he should run it or anything. Then what do I know about running websites and providing links to others and such? If he put a lot of money into buying the site from Blake, which he probably did, he may want to have a say in everything on it, including a forum (including this one if it was on it) and I can not say I would blame him for that. I guess the best thing for this board then, would be to remain independant of any website and let us just be our own.

It seems for now linking us is a no-go. As it is, there is no forum being linked from fridaythe13thfilms.com, so while we're not affliated with them, we're certainly not competeing with them.
Even if we did become an 'official' forum for a site, BlakeT, Jeans and I would still want to maintain control. We're in this for the long haul and plan to run it in the spirit of the old place. The ownership is split between the admins- no one person 'owns' the board so rest assured- we're not gonna sell you out. Damn, just killed the WWE comparisons then :D

Right now we're a board without a content-side, and Dusk is in the process of providing content without a board. What the future holds, none of us know at this point. Blake W. put the no-forum clause in for his own reason, and we respect that. If he and Dusk end up agreeing that our forum is permitted in an official or unofficial way, we'll be happy to do it. If not, no harm no foul. I don't think any of us feel like we're competing with anyone for anything - Jeansie, Sicko, and myself simply want to provide a place where our little family can congregate and continue to thrive. If we're successful at that, then the rest of it will likely take care of itself.
Ultimately, I think what we're trying to provide is something of a niche - a place where everyone is welcome, but that has enough structure so that nobody is dominated or flamed - much like Blake and Brenna's place was. If people want to go to a place where there isn't a whole lot of moderation, they can go to BD or any number of other places. If they want to create a private, secret forum where no outsiders will infiltrate, they can find somewhere to do that. We're somewhere in the middle, which is fine.
No worries, though. I think everything will turn out fine.

I love the main page Part 3 picture. That is cool....and it's retro....as in Dusk's Retro-Slashers... :)
You guys have a real good thing going here. I see not having a forum on the site as a happy challenge. I get the feeling in the old days, for a few at least, the site was just a waystation into the forum. Now without one, the pressure's on to make the site stand on its own two feet. And with such a solid foundation thanks to Blake & Brenna and some new content on the way, I don't see why it can't - for now at least!

Indeed Dusk! Back in the day it was just a website with a messageboard.
F13F turned into a huge forum with a (compaired to the forum) tiny site, so there was little attention to the site.
Good luck with the site! :) And if you ever need some help, let me know!
I'm still not 100% sure about putting my site back up... and I have all these info/scans/pictures/articles/stuff laying around.

I think the site always got more hits than the forum, but for those of us who became part of that community, the site pretty much faded away and we didn't think about it. It's a great site, but you visit all the pages and then you're done. Evidently, though, there were always new people discovering the site & people checking it for franchise news.

Will do. I've always been about a balance between presentation and content. I'm going to spend some time getting to know the current design before revamping, and when I do there are always going to be strong touches of the previous look in some way or another, so the roots of the place are never forgotton.

How is this board going to make it around then? Call me crazy, but it seems so hidden. There's no link to it on Richard Gibbs' main page, there are no spiders adding the link to Google, Yahoo!, etc (yet?), the link is nowhere. Does this place not want new members because I don't see how anyone could find it. I'm sure new Friday the 13th fans would love to have a forum to discuss the saga... the thing is, they can't find this place. And I don't think it's linked anywhere.
Is there a reason for this? I am curious. :)

Yes we'll get this up and going on google.
We've picked up 160 members in 8 days, I wouldn't say that's not wanting new members, but before we go off like a scattergun and drag in as many people as we can we need to get the bugs ironed out, mods in place and everyone comfortable with the features.
There's no link on my main page because that site is coming down when we move across to new servers. I've not got a definitiet timeline but we're moving to a faster host that will serve us well into the 10's of thousands of members. When that happens we'll worry about advertising.
And Mcilroga, unless you have access to the admin panel you don't know what spiders are doing what. I guarantee you they've been here. So please, unless you actually know what you're complaining about, keep it to yourself.

Wow... just wow.
Who was complaining? In fact, point me out a single statement where it can even be construed that I was complaining. I was merely ASKING. You know; questions, curiosity. I never said a "hidden forum" was a bad thing, nor did I say that not wanting new members is a bad thing (I even moderate a board where registrations are currently closed). What I DID say... is that I don't think the place is all that advertised, which can be assumed as either a good or bad thing, because I didn't elaborate on it. I even posted a little ":)" smilie at the end to showcase the mood I was in.
I was not upset or complaining about things.

It's a forums and forums get out by WOM and people seeing adverts for it. Make a Myspace for the forum- there's a lot of people here and who cares if it's not the official chat for the website?
Obviously if John wants to have a forum he will make his own forum so HE can moderate it, you know since it's on his site.
BlakeTyner
07-21-2007, 08:33 PM
Go and reread what Sickboy posted - we're still "hidden" because the board is still very, very new. Right now we're still tweaking the code on a daily basis to get the skins, buttons, and features up to snuff. With the moderator staff that we have right now, we're just not prepared to start getting tons and tons of new members - but trust me, we're on top of it.
What Sicko was saying about moving to a faster server will have nothing to do with this board, on our end. It just means that it'll be hosted on a faster server, not that we have to create a new place. This is the board that we'll continue to have as long as there's a community to populate it.
We are continuing to work the bugs out of this place, so have no fear.

The site is moving but the address will look the same, the site will be the same. We won't lose any members or posts. All I'm doing is switching where it is physically hosted. There will be about an hour where posting is closed while the redirect takes place, but I'll be doing it at 5am EST so very few people will notice. When it comes back on it will be like nothing has changed, well, except it'll run a few miliseconds quicker as we'll be on a much faster server.

I much prefer it to the old style. But I do have one problem with your leading news item: It's Englund not England :)
Now, all you need to do is hypnotise Blake and force him to allow a new forum... one with a domain like f13-community... and really cool admins ;)

Why? This forum is fine. Someone should suggest a direct link to this forum. Why start up a whole new one with new mods etc.? Make the dude (I forget who took over) a mod her and everything is nice.

Dusk, is the site down at the moment? I can't get it to load this morning.
Why?
Considering sickboy is the man who owns the web space which hosts this very forum, I think you'll find his comments were just a bit of blatant factious wordplay. Or something. :)

Heh, thought I was as blatant :X as I could possibly be. It was a rather unsubtle hint to Dusk :D
An agreement is an agreement, guys. I can have no forum. Even if I wanted to. But thinking, even if I wanted to, I would like to keep it all in-house. I'm a control freak that way. Besides, I've always been about providing the alternative. So if I were able to have a forum, I'd be sure to create one in the spirit of giving fans more choice. There are enough fans to go around. Plus my idea for a forum would be very unconventional, markedly different from all that has gone before, and I'd take specific measures to ensure it was an intimate community. So I'm quite happy for you guys, and any others, to keep the large masses of fans. And I'm also going to stick you in my Links page, as you've surely sent visitors my way and I want to reciprocate where possible.

My intention when I created the ProBoard after the vBulletin meltdown was to keep the core community from the previous forum in tact. I didn't create it as a way to draw more people. I don't think you can get much more intimate than that. :shy:
Mind you, I'm not against expansion, but it's not high up on my list of priorities. I'm happy with the community as is. It's like a surrogate family.
And I'm also going to stick you in my Links page...
Very much appreciated. :)

Hi JVY2K. My name is John.
That's right, I'd forgotton who took over. I love the new design, especially the Uber Jason vs. Zombie Jason picture. Did you draw that? It's good shit.
If I can offer one criticism, it would be the use of the new Paramount F-13 logos. That's just me personally though, as I hate those new logos and find the originals much more suited to the series.
Other then that, it's awesome. Keep it up man!

The best thing about the site is that it represents a pretty seamless transition. Yes, it's different, but if you were someone that just visited the site again after a long layoff, you'd probably just think it was a simple site re-design.
Also, for all you cats going to the website in search of "the forum," you've found it. This is the forum as far as I'm concerned. ;)

LS, the old forum got nuked back in July when a technical issue wiped out all the information on the servers. Since then, Blake and Brenna sold off the Friday the 13th films website to Dusk, who also runs a few other sites (Retro Slashers among them). As for the forum, Blake mandated that the site not have an official forum, so a few members from the old forum (Jeans, BlakeTyner, and Sickboy) created this forum in its place. For all intents and purposes, this pretty much is the old forum.

I of course am glad F13films is still around, just like everyone else. I only have one question, did the old f13thfilms site have the google ads, I just noticed them the other day when I went back to see if there was anything new to the site, they're a little annoying, but they're just small text ads. Nothing big, just curious if I was blind before it switched hands or something.
Come to think of it they did have ads, they were for sideshow products weren't they?
I just remember it looking cleaner a month or so ago.

No, there were never google ads before. I instituted them a few days ago. I know it sounds like a hard luck story, but my sites operate at a loss, plus especially with F13th, the bandwidth is bloody huge (have been coasting on a friend's server but can't slug him with this forever), and I'd definitely like to make some of the dosh back that I forked over for the site - with intents to put it right back into my site/s, as usual. I use Google because as you said, they're not TOO annoying. All ads are annoying, but at least (as you said, again) they're just text, I was careful to ensure that. The Sideshow banner was revenue directly to Blake/Brenna up to the end of 2007 as part of the agreement, but I left it on there a little longer anyway. I pretty much just jammed them into my current design as best as possible, which is why it's probably jarring to see. But I've been working on the next stage of the design, and when that's implemented soon I think you'll find the Google ads are even less noticible. Thanks for your interest in the site, constructive criticism always helps.

Yeah it still looks great. I figured that's why they were there. Google ads are a million times better than what I seem to run into on huge sites like yours. What really gets me going are the now speaking flash ads that huge sites are putting up. GRRR... I can handle a few ads, but I don't expect to shit my pants when a webpages loads telling me I'm getting a free ipod or something. Especially when I have my sound up from listening to music earlier and now it's just dead silent in my house. "YOOOOOOOOOOOOUURRRRRRRE GETTING A FREEEE IPODDDD!!!!!!!" = me dropping load.

Well, last night I looked at the site for I think the first time since it went down.
I really don't like it.
Not to offend you or anything Dusk, I just want to be honest. I just do not prefer the layout. I like the old style much better. And the Google adds don't exactly help either, but if it's what you had to do, then I guess I can look past that. A few things that stand out to me the most, are things like the "Announcements" section being so huge as to take up most of the page, The Roman Numerals for all the films past 8 that have their own stand alone titles; Jason Goes to Hell, Jason X, FvsJ, etc... Stuff like that just makes the site feel a little generic and lifeless to me.
Also, the link to this forum......I don't know, I guess I hoped it would say more, since to me, this community is essentially part what made that site such a cool place to visit in the first place and link makes it seem like just another F13 site.
But hey, these are just my own opinions. I hope that the new designs you have in mind help improve the layout, and maybe correct some of these issues, if you think they need correcting. It's your site now, so I respect that you're going to do things as you see fit.
Good luck with the continued running of the site. Again, I hope I didn't offend you. I'm not really all that good in the way of constructive criticism.
~F.o.F
Re: roman numerals. I've gotten a bit of flack for that, and fair enough - but it's just personal preference. To me, overall they're all Friday The 13th films and one long line series, not Paramount + individual Jason movies. The company change-over tended to break up the brand somewhat, but in my camp I'm not bound by such technicalities. It's not like I'll ever refer to Jason Goes To Hell as Friday The 13th Part 9 (even though that's essentially what it is), but at least for that menu, I wanted a quick way folks could access the sections, the best way to do that was with numbers. I understand various people's feelings though, and I'll do my best to address or fix whatever others anyone has. Likewise, if everyone wants the site reverted to the original design, do throw your two cents in. Cheers.

Has anyone noticed that the link to the old board now goes to the My Bloody Valentine remake site?
www.fridaythe13thforum.com
Odd. I wonder if Blake and Brenna sold it to those guys, or maybe they are just a fan of the movie? Either way, I was hoping this place might one day inherit the old url (I'm nostalgic like that). As it is, a whois query still lists Blake Washer as the administrator.

02-07-2009, 12:35 AM
He may have just redirected it. I mean, if the MBV gets a lot of referrals from that URL Blake may be able to make money for it? Maybe it is something like that.

02-07-2009, 12:39 AM
That's kinda what I'm thinking. Sorta an odd choice, given that a movie called Friday the 13th, which will probably do bigger business, is coming out in a week? Who knows, My Bloody Valentine may generate more internet traffic.
eXile
02-09-2009, 05:32 PM
It's not really that odd of a choice, all things considered. Todd penned the script for MBV. Blake and Brenna are friends with Todd, so I could see them supporting the film. If Blake's open letter to New Line that was posted at the old Fridaythe13thfilms.com was an indication of how he still feels about the reinvention/reimagining/remake/re-whatever, then I can see MBV getting the nod over the new Friday from his perspective. Of course, this is pure speculation on my behalf.
Harmonic Bond
02-14-2009, 12:43 AM
Very astute observations. I knew they were tight with Todd, but I forgot about the open letter to NLC. Makes sense.
I think Blake/Brenna were holding out hope for one day granting the Forum URL to someone for a resurrection of the forum - after all, that's why the clause in the sale of the site to me that I not do a forum - but I guess it's all null and void now if they've passed off the URL. It's cool, I never would have wanted to use that sacred domain anyway. :P

I like how the blog is on top of rumors and news ...[B]but[/[B] what about the main-site? After B&B handed the site over the look of the site changed (menues etc) but I don´t thinkt that any new content was added.
The remake has been out for half a year. Time to include it like the other movies (summary, bodycvount etc).
The google-earth-images/coordinates of the F13-location (including thwe ANB location) could be added to the location-section.
And as Havoc suggested: A fangame section which deals about the F13 fangames that were made over the years (Fista´s, Havocs, mine, JoOco´s)
And I think that some new merchandise (figures, comics) were released since B&B last updated that section.

I'll frankly have to solicit fans on that stuff, at some point - much of my time in F13 Land is working on years of backlogged fan photos, costumes, tats, drawings, costumes etc. I've also been converting the old site into a (backend) format that won't look much different but will allow easier updating on my end, because B&B were hardcore HTML oldschoolers, and I'm a Dreamweaver cat, so when I try to edit that stuff it turns to junk. Consider pretty much each cast member over 11 films has their own page on the site and... well, you get the idea. I'm getting there!

Definitely my humblest apologies for seeming to let the main site into disarray. When I purchased it I felt the actual site was in good shape, and spent much of my time creating and maintaining the Blog and Gallery features. As soon as the film came out though, I redirected myself toward the main site, but as stated in previous paragraph it's a slow journey, but I promise to hit a good landmark pretty soon.

Suggestions noted (and I mean noted). All are things I want to do, unfortunately in the vast world of F13, there's gotta be priorities. Or at least, rotating priorities. Keep an eye out on the site, you'll hear of any and all changes or additions @ the blog first. :)

In the mean time, debuting Sunday June 20th, a new Friday the 13th Resource Project will be added to fridaythe13thfilms.com. This project will be the beginning of what will be a major Friday the 13th reference guide for fans of the series. This guide will eventually link together with the current Blog and help give visitors a one stop resource for everything Jason Voorhees and Crystal Lake. More information will be given to our visitors next week when the Resource Project debuts.

Hello everyone,
I wanted to let peope know that a new section of the website has been opened, called Fridaypedia. This is a wiki and is going to be a permanent extension of fridaythe13thfilms.com. We are aware that there is at least one Friday the 13th wiki in existence already, but we are not in competition with that great resource. The main purpose of our Fridaypedia is to have the existing information and data that was added by Blake and Brenna on static html pages put into a more manageable application. Editing and adding information on the series will be easier and will require no html coding.
The other reason for the Fridaypedia is to open the website up to the fans and give them an interactive environment to add information as they see fit and not have to submit that info to the middlemen, website admins, and wait for things to be updated. Also, we think that visitors will appreciate being able to contribute to the website directly.
Alot of the main portions of the Fridaypedia are locked at the moment and not editable as we are in the beginning stages and want to see how things will go. There are, however, sections that can be added to such as characters and places mentioned in the series. Below is a link to what visitors have been adding to the Jason Voorhees page. So, if you want to contribute to the Fridaypedia, please feel free to set up an account in a few seconds and add your knowlwedge to the franchise.
http://www.fridaythe13thfilms.com/wiki/index.php/Jason
We are in the beginning stages, so if you see something that is out of place or information that is not correct and cannot be edited, leave a comment on the discussion tabs. We are monitoring these discussions and will fix the issues as they made to our attention. Also, we will be adding more images into the wiki very soon. Thanks for looking everyone!

Where Jason Lives
Jason's base of operations is Camp Crystal Lake which was established in 1935. Crystal Lake itself has a history of carnage that goes back to the 1800's. In Wildstorm's comic continuity the lake itself chose Jason to be its vessel of rage.
What carnage happen back in the 1800's there ?

I don't think anyone will abandon this place.
We have a great community here.
There will likely be a lot of people who are members at both.

I used to frequent many forums, but lately i've only been posting here. This is the only one i've ever encountered that truly has that community feeling. I could see joining the new forum as well, but i'd probably end up spending more time on here, because like everyone else, i've grown so attached to this board. :)

I don't really post on any boards besides this one. Definitely the best board I've ever belonged to...and mind you I was an admin on Commando Fans for nearly five years.

I'm really looking forwards to new things to come on the website!
I'm literally churning out content through the week, since realizing I can't really trust anyone but myself. The best part? I don't owe anyone squat. Random rambling is so freeing. Come and see the freakshow!

It's good to see you take a more active part in the website instead of relying on others to run the website for you. I hope you're able to keep updating the website on a more consistent basis. Good luck! ;)

Anyone know what is up with the site these days? Going there makes google freak, suggesting that the site has been hosting malware/trojans as of late. Since I usually run less vulnerable OSs (some Linux flavor or OS X) I usually ignore these and solder on, but .... I assume traffic is at a standstill because of this. Also, the blog is not operational at the moment (forum is still up tho).

Yeah, I haven't been there in weeks because of that.

Says the same thing about Retro Slashers as well. I don't really bother with it.
THIS forum, is the F13 forum now for me. All the old characters, back again, it's perfectly fine, I don't need two places for it.
