View Full Version : Jason's Masks
I've always found it odd how Jason seems to get a new mask every two films. Almost exactly. He had his first in Part 3 and TFC, then gets a new one in JL, broken by the end of TNB, his new one in JTM is lost at the end of JGTH, somehow. (Freddy must've wanted to keep it as a trophy or something, since the FvJ one had no axe cuts or anything), and by JX his hock looks almost completely different.
Off-topic: Did they use multiple masks for JGTH? It seems inconsistent in some scenes.
I've always thought that the JL mask was the same one he got from Shelly, Tommy just kept it.

I always believed the JL mask was a replica Tommy made and the mask from Part 3/TFC was kept as evidence by the police.
I would not be surprised if the JL one was his original. The only evidence I see against it is that the axe mark looks more straight, while in TFC, it looked a bit curved to me. I think it's more likely a replica made by Tommy, as stated. Perhaps he felt giving Jason his mask back might help him rest.
Could someone explain to me why the mask in JGTH seems to change how it looks? I've seen pics of it with a very thin axe cut and a thin hole between the eye and the edge, ones where the eye extension is a huge gash, ones where the axe cut seems to be gone. In addition, the mask seems to have no damage outside of the axe cut in the final scene.

The JGTH mask changing appearances throughout the film is probably just a continuity error.

JGTH itself is a continuity error. :D

I also think that the one in Jason Lives was a mask Tommy made himself... perhaps he used Roy's mask and repainted it? How cool would that be... Zombie Jason wearing Roy's old mask.
Also it wouldn't make any sence if he kept the original Shelly mask, because of police investigation...

I always believed the mask from TFC and Roy's mask were both kept as evidence by the police and Tommy made his own replica and used photographs for reference.
I always figured so as well. The only other thing I could think of is that there's someone making replica Jason masks in the F13 universe just like in real life (other than Tommy, I mean). It's not out-of-the-question. I find it most likely Tommy made his own mask though.
I'm more curious where the one in p8 came from, and why it had the axe cut. The guy didn't seem to be a Jason nut or anything, not a hockey player. And why was there an axe cut?

That's often widely debated. I think most likely Jim was just a Jason aficionado and made the mask himself or had someone else make it for him, and maybe he had the axe cut added after seeing the photographs in newspapers or such.
Either that or Jim thought it would be fun to steal it from the authorities and it's the p3-4 mask, and is just yellowy and stuff due to age.
But what are the chances of that XD?

Slim-to-none.
If Jim made the mask himself or had someone else do it, the job wasn't entirely accurate, given the yellowish coloration and the appearance of the red markings, especially on the sides of the mask.
Okay.
Next that brings to Jason's mask in FvJ...I'd like to ignore the rest of his costume change, I know someone's going to bitch about it, there's always someone going around about that. I just want to talk mask. I've heard a few theories about it.

Good question as to how he has a clean new mask in FVJ. All I can think of is Freddy gave it to him, or whoever buried him was kind enough to give it to him
I have a very far-fetched theory, but when I write Hell scenes in my stories (Keep in mind, they're usually not Slasher stories XD) it has houses, hotels and everything, like another Earth, except that it's got the traditional red cavelike structure, and it of course has demons and Satan running around. It also logically would have stores as well.
So Jason bought some new clothes.
It's far-fetched yes, but the only other thing I could think of is there were further events between FvJ and JGTH, which I'd say is slightly supported by Jason being able to rise back so easily. We'll obviously never find out though with the remake coming along.

It seems in the remake/reboot that Jason obtains his mask simply by finding it laying around.
Perosnally I think that's really the best way for him to find it now. Him getting it from his victims was cool in TFC and less so but still a bit in JL, but by JTM it had worn out it's welcome.
Plus, I'm sure someone happened to leave a hockey mask around once. Not everyone's responsible.
On a random note, I once wondered what would've happened if Jason wore his hock under his hood/sack/bag/whatever. It would be a shock onscreen, but it would probably be a bitch for him to breathe.

The Best Mask Is From Part 6

The mask in 6 is a lot different than the one by the end of 4. By the end of Part 4 a little less than half of the top chevron is left. The mask in 3 doesn't have buttons, but rivets and has a full triangle and not a half chevron as well as leather straps and a different shape. It's clearly a replica, however it is very similar to the mask in tommy's hallucinations in A NEw Beginning. Perhaps Tommy made that mask way back then and was seeing those hallucinations based on the mask he made if you want to get down to it.

I like part 3's mask better than the rest.
I like the mask from Parts 3 and 4 the best. I like it nice and clean. Then I like it with the bloody ax mark in it.
As far as Jason Goes to Hell, the one scene where the difference in the mask is crystal clear is when he saw his own face in the mirror (in the body of the cop) before he was stabbed and went out the window. The reflection looking back at him was the hockey masked Jason and to be honest, it was a completely different make-up job. The hair looked like Motley Crue and it was a completely different mask.

The 3 mask is the one I love, however it's hard not to like the mask at the end of 4- it's just so beat up and bloody.

i like part 7's and part 3's mask the best
Part 7 is an awesome mask. Many people do not agree but I really like both the classic and metal versions of the Jason X mask. I think my favorite though would have to be Part 3's followed closely by Part 4's, then Part 7's, then Part 5's (with the blue markings), then the uber/metal one.

What I dislike about the 7 mask is how small it is. It's lacking a good 2-3" in circumference easily.
It does appear smaller, but maybe a lot of it was whethered away from being under water and such. It is probably a stretch, but it is at least a science [fiction] theory of explanation. What I loved about it is how it had the chipped mouth piece off, showing good continuity from Part 6, and you actually saw his teeth through the rotted/slashed away flesh on his face. It is disgusting, but great attention to detail.

I'm sure Buechler made it smaller to see more of the face. I like the 7 mask a lot as well as the JGTH as much as I hated Jason's look. Hell, I think all the masks had character to them even the one I like the least- Jason Lives.

Yes they did. I read an interview with someone from KNB and they made several masks for the film. They used one mask for when he first appears at the cabin and chases the woman through the woods, another when he gets shot in the head, one when he got blown up and I think yet another one when he is reborn at the end. Not sure, but maybe also another one for when he is seen in mirror reflections and such.

The multiples they used in JGTH were just to show the progressive abuse it suffered (the gunshot & then the blown out eye), otherwise, they were all exactly the same in every way. With the exception of JX & the reboot, all of them were developed from the same source (some were from the same mold, the rest from a mask made from that original mold). 7 & JGTH were both cut down significantly & the vents were taken out with a smaller drill bit. If you took a mask from each 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and even Vs., you could stack them on top of each other & everything would line up quite nicely :)

It was more like grey but it does kinda looks like he has jumpsuit cause for some reason the filmmakers wanted Jason to have his shirt tucked into his pants.

Ha ha yeah, just cause you're an indestructible undead mass-murderer it dosen't give you any excuse to look shabby.

Most people who go to church want to look their best. So, Jason wanted to look his best for...hell. :shifty:
He even clean shaved. How nice. :)

I agree. I also dont like it when the red markings are faded or chipping. IMO, the contrast difference created when the mask is white and the markings are bright red makes the mask look more intimidating. The part 3 mask is my favorite, no doubt about it.

From afar the missing red chevrons aren't intimidating, but up close when you see the wear and tear and abuse, that looks intimidating. However it's very hard to tell in the movie.
Like this, if I saw someone with this it would intimidate me a little more than the clean Part 3.
