This man...can be considered the god of Rock, The King of Rock N Roll, Metal Legend.
Ronnie James Dio.
One of the most powerful singers in heavy metal and has such a powerful voice and popularized the "devil's horns" hand gesture in metal culture.
His work with Black Sabbath was great too.
What does everyone else think?

RJD is one of my favorite metal singers. How many people can say they were the vocalist for three great bands (Rainbow, Black Sabbath & Dio)?

do I like Dio? what do you think, I've seen him twice with Sabbath (a third time coming this August) and once with Dio, probably among my absolute biggest influences, has played with a number of the greatest guitarists to ever carry the instrument, the single most greatest lyricist to ever live who has been there for me ever since 1975, probably the most important figure that I can name

Dio kicks ass. I love his Sabbath work (unlike most I know), but honestly, his solo albums are where it is concerning Dio. Holy Diver is one of the greatest metal albums ever, as are Last in Line and Dream Evil. Dio's got one of the coolest voices ever, and it's nice to see him still going strong. Dio fucking rules!

my favourite song in Dio's whole catalog of songs is Sabbath's Children Of The Sea, which is also my favourite Sabbath song in general, both times I saw Sabbath live with Dio on vocals, and I think also with Gillan and Gillen on vocals the other 2 times I saw them, during Children Of The Sea, there was not one person in the whole arena not singing along with the chorus, the sound of the crowd overpowered the stage during the chorus, it was just incredible, I'm expecting the same this summer
I really couldn't choose a favourite song from the band Dio...probably All The Fools Sailed Away if I had a gun to my head I'd choose that...though my favourite album by the band is Magica
and my favourite Dio-sung Rainbow song is another tough one, probably between Catch The Rainbow and Tarot Woman...Rising would be my favourite Dio-era Rainbow album, though I personally prefer the Joe Lynn Turner sung stuff with Bent Out Of Shape being my favourite Rainbow album

Dio is the fucking SHIT!!!! I've seen him twice live (with Dio, not Sabbath). The guy can still crumble mountains with his voice, and will forever be a God of Metal! The man just straight up OWNS everyone's ass. Seriously, there's no one else on the face of this Earth that can compete with the voice he possesses. I enjoy some of his work with Rainbow (ever hear the live version of "Mistreated" - OH GOD!). His Sabbath work was unprecedented! After Ozzy, no one would've thought they'd get another voice as distinct and iconic - it doesn't get any better than Ronnie James Dio - "Mob Rules, "Heaven & Hell," "Sign of the Southern Cross." Then, his solo work is simply amazing. He really broke free there, and has become heavy metal's dragon slayer!
A few of my top favorites from Dio, beyond the obvious ones, are "We Rock," "The Last in Line," "I Could've Been A Dreamer," "Dream Evil," "Rock N' Roll Children," & "Push."

I own that. I never watched the whole thing. I'm going to make a note to watch the whole concert on my day off of work.

zombie, that is just an amazing concert, seeing that dvd was just amazing, I mean I'm a bigger Blackmore fan than I am Dio, so that would be why, Ritchie was just so on his game back than

I'm not a huge Dio fan, but the guy has a great voice. He's put out some good tunes over the years, especially when he was with Rainbow.
Kinda funny, cause I just bought Rainbow - "Rising" today and happened to see this thread. One of the best early metal bands out there imho, right up with Judas Preist, Sabbath, Budgie, etc... really speedy and heavy for the time.

I just love Rainbow cause of Ritchie, Dio just molded the band together with his voice but I didn't grow to love Dio until he went to Sabbath, needless to say I would have never bought Heaven and Hell had I not already known Ronnie from Rainbow

I have to say, I've recently started revisiting Dio, and I'm starting to take a preference to the Dream Evil album. I'm not quite sure it beats out Holy Diver, but it's definitely one of his greatest albums. The title track on that album is just fucking awesome. It reminds me of a song that would be on the soundtrack in Nightmare on Elm St. 3 (title aside, I guess it just has the same vibe as NOES 3). "Overlove' and "Sunset Superman" and "Night People" are great songs too.

oh Dream Evil beats Holy Diver for me, All The Fools Sailed Away is my favourite Dio song
by the way, Ronnie, along with Tony Iommi, Rudy Sarzo and Simon Wright, recorded a cover of God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen on the new Christmas tribute album "We Wish You A Metal X-Mas and a Headbanging New Year", and the song is just great, very Sabbath-like, and the majority of the album is pretty awesome also

Dio is awesome.
I too love Children of the Sea but I think that Dio-Sabbath and Ozzy-Sabbath are two different beasts altogether (but both excellent Heavy Metal).

Eh.... I dunno. Holy Diver is an album that's pretty special to me, if only for Stand Up and Shout, Straight Through the Heart, the title track, Rainbow in the Dark, and Don't Talk to Strangers. Dream Evil is excellent as well. "Sunset Superman" has a near thrashy riff!

I absolutley love Ronnie James Dio! I have been able to see him twice w/ Sabbath recenty. My favorite Dio album is far and away Holy Diver, but my Favorite album with him on it has to be Sabbath's Heaven and Hell. I actually live maybe an hour from his hometown, which has a street named after him (Dio Way). I also love the fact that he started the Devil Horns thing because of his grandmother's belief in Malocchio (the evil eye).
