Japanese woman caught living in man's closet By MARI YAMAGUCHI, Associated Press Writer

A homeless woman who sneaked into a man's house and lived undetected in his closet for a year was arrested in Japan after he became suspicious when food mysteriously began disappearing.

Police found the 58-year-old woman Thursday hiding in the top compartment of the man's closet and arrested her for trespassing, police spokesman Hiroki Itakura from southern Kasuya town said Friday.

The resident of the home installed security cameras that transmitted images to his mobile phone after becoming puzzled by food disappearing from his kitchen over the past several months.

One of the cameras captured someone moving inside his home Thursday after he had left, and he called police believing it was a burglar. However, when they arrived they found the door locked and all windows closed.

"We searched the house ... checking everywhere someone could possibly hide," Itakura said. "When we slid open the shelf closet, there she was, nervously curled up on her side."

The woman told police she had no place to live and first sneaked into the man's house about a year ago when he left it unlocked.

She had moved a mattress into the small closet space and even took showers, Itakura said, calling the woman "neat and clean."

I know, right? This woman must be a ninja or something.

And I've got five bucks that says one of the Law & Order shows is going to turn this story into an episode next season.

That. Is. Awesome. Makes me think of Laszlo from Real Genius.

I wonder how long it'll be before this becomes a major motion picture? It needs to be.

Got to give her credit. A whole year?!?!? That is pretty damn impressive.

I wonder how she kept clean? I'd imagine a whole year of living in a closet and not showering would make her smell pretty bad and her odor would be detectable after a while.

Well, I'd say I wouldn't call the cops or anything if I got some, uh, collateral....... Heh heh :D

Did you not read the whole article, Jig? It explains it right there at the end:

She had moved a mattress into the small closet space and even took showers, Itakura said, calling the woman "neat and clean."

I overlooked that part  But even then, I wonder if the guy noticed anything odd in the showers, with the distinctive wet, moist feeling shower stalls have for a little while after usage.

If he's working 8 or 12 hour shifts, there's more than enough time for the shower to dry out.

And hopefully when she had to use the toilet, she didn't leave behind much of a mess or stink for the guy to notice :X

If she left an odor in his bathroom that was still lingering after 8 or 12 hours, lady probably needed to be in a hospital. :X

Some people I've known in my time leave behind the worst odors after using the bathroom and they're perfectly healthy, too :X

If I was the home owner, I'd let her stay with me. If she can go that long without being noticed, she cannot be a pain in the ass or much trouble.
