Random Thoughts is an amazing thread, so I figured I'd try out a Random Horror Thoughts thread. Sort of a place to go when no thread fit your needs or you just have something real quick to get off your chest. Or maybe you'd want to pose the question of who'd win in a fight, Jason or Dave Dunwoody's fart. Either way, make it happen, folks.

I'll start by saying that I can't believe that they made Freddy's actual personal vehicle an ice cream truck in the first Freddy's Nightmares episode. I was in awe then, I'm in awe now.

Boo: have you watched the episode Dreams that kill? There is a scene in that episode which... well, it sort of reminds me of what Freddy tried to do with Lori in Freddy Vs Jason. But I might have misuderstood that scene... at least, I hope so.

I definitely have, but I don't recall the rape implications. It's been a bit since I've seen it, so I can't recall exactly. I'll ask S-10, he knows Freddy like the back of his hand.

Is that a Freddy's Nightmares episode?

Edit: Yes, I see that it is now.

Don't worry Anderson, I'm going to get in touch with S-10 in a month or so to make sure it happens. ;)

Brett H.
07-17-2007, 03:10 AM
The Chiller version will surely be cut (I don't necessarily mean gore, just it's too long to air the entire thing), DM. My copy runs 45 mins and 30 seconds, so it'll be interesting to see how long it is and what they saw fit to take out. Also, that's without an intro. I can't see my copy not being completely uncut, so I don't think they had an intro to the first episode. I know for a fact they did on the third.

Boo, it's running for an hour. So I figure with commercials, it should come in around 45 minutes. I'm actually pretty excited about it because I've never seen it. It's not often that I get to see something Nightmare-related that I've never seen before.

Hopefully. But, I think they advertise more along the lines of 20 mins per hour now, don't they? I am unsure, I don't watch much TV because I hate commercials.

S-10 will never come to this forum. Trust me on this, you guys. S-10 will never return. :(

Please, my gas would melt his mask right off.

If you get a chance, check out The Creeping Flesh with Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing. It's a really quirky and smart movie if you consider its commentary on Victorian society & sex. I was surprised, going in expecting a total schlockfest. It is schlocky at times, but awesomely so.

I wish FEARnet could get some more decent shit on. It's been fun rewatching some really shitty movies I first saw as a kid, but I'd like some good stuff! I did see The Creeping Flesh on FEARnet though.

DM, there's a secret in the photo about Craven, can you pick it out? Look real hard...

The "ferdsicle" is striped yellow and red instead of green and red. These are "Freddie" colors. This is because Craven originally wanted Freddy to be molestor and have a yellow and red striped shirt.

A question about Dead Silence. It's a spoiler, so don't look if you haven't seen it and do not want to be spoiled.

Okay, in Dead Silence, everyone knows not to scream if Mary Shaw shows up. However, she didn't turn into a legend until after she was dead for awhile. Why then does the boy cover his mouth and not scream when she's coming at him in the funeral home. She had just died... that whole "don't scream" thing hadn't started yet.

How'd it end up red/green Christmas style?

I wish I knew. Shaye or Englund must have convinced him to change it for whatever reason.

At first I was itching to see Lee get his comeuppance, but I kinda like that the villain won for a change. I also like the ambiguity of the monster's fate, the idea that the hooded fiend is free to walk the earth, spreading its evil.

The Tall Man
07-23-2007, 08:28 AM

My take was that, after the Flesh took its finger back, Lee imprisoned Cushing and suppressed the man's true identity (along with that of his daughter) in order to steal his research & claim that prize they'd been vying for.

I'm NOT saying you got ripped bro, but I do want to give this warning out, this is to all by the way:If ordering from ebay or anything like it (forums count) be very careful. freako, I definitely agree with Marz.

I can still remember the day I ordered The Beyond/House By the Cemetery from Future Shop. I watched The Beyond and just fuckin' loved it. I immediately ordered City of the Living Dead after watching it.

I still say that Lucio Fulci directed better films over a 3 year period than any other horror director in history. Really, can you find a horror director that can top Zombie, City of the Living Dead, The Beyond, House By the Cemetery, made in a 3 year span? I truly believe that House By the Cemetery is one of the most underrated horror movies in history. If it didn't have Bob's shitty dubbing, I think it'd be recognized a lot more as a great horror movie.

freako104

I have the AB version and if your version isn't absolutely gory as hell, it's cut. House By the Cemetery's gore is right up there with Fulci's best. If you check out Youtube, you can find a lot of uncut HBTC deaths and see what your copy is missing, I haven't seen the R-rated version.

Of all the films I can't figure out why BU didn't re-release, it'd be The Beyond.

I would think whoever owns the rights is gonna update the transfer and whatnot. Maybe put that Fulci interview from Fango that's kicking around out there and has been on EC releases on it. That is one thing I'd like to see and I can't believe it hasn't been on a mainstream release yet.

I was just watching a little bit of Halloween on IFC with my brother. We were reminiscing about how much scarier that movie used to be when we lived in our old trailer. I wish it were possible to actually be a bit scared by horror movies still. Mind you, I never was truly petrified of them, but there was something a bit creepy about living in a house that made all sorts of noise during the night.

Thanks for the heads-up, but I managed to buy the AB version on Ebay for a little over $30, which isn't that bad. Plus, the seller had a 100% feedback rating and only lives a few hours from me, so I should get it pretty soon. I'm pretty pumped to see this after hearing so much about it. The only Fulci movie I've ever seen is Zombi II, which I thought was excellent.

Yeah, I watched it too. Before yesterday, that's the first time i've seen Halloween on a "regular" movie channel. Usually they show it on channels like Fuse, USA, FX, etc.

I have 3 different versions of Halloween. I have the "Blockbuster Presents" version on VHS. I also have another VHS of it. It's sort of like a special/limited edition. It came with 2 tapes......the first one is the movie in widescreen. The 2nd one is a 30 minute documentary. Then I have the Divimax DVD.

Plus, the seller had a 100% feedback rating and only lives a few hours from me, so I should get it pretty soon. I'm pretty pumped to see this after hearing so much about it. The only Fulci movie I've ever seen is Zombi II, which I thought was excellent.

I found some Myspace pages for some of Lucio Fulci's fims. It has some songs from the soundtracks on each of them. :)

Nah, it was normal DVD. Still looked good.

I thought about getting a projector tonight, but in my small room I figured I'd only get it to project to 64" 4x3. I've spent pretty much all day looking through AB and BU's respective catalogues, and I've gotta say, there's a lot of shit I'd like to see Blue Underground re-release. Phenomena is one of them--it's an Argento film I haven't seen, so it would be a welcome addition. I'm sure they'll get around to it sooner or later.

Is there an official list out there anywhere that details exactly what Blue Underground controls now?

Brett H.
08-28-2007, 03:50 AM
From what I gather, they're just re-releasing certain old AB titles, obviously a cash grab.

But some big names haven't been officially announced, so I'm guessing SEs sometime (Phenomena, The Beyond). Of course, we all had heard City of the Living Dead was getting a 2 disc SE from Shriek Show, and where is that?

The Dream Master
08-28-2007, 03:54 AM
They're releasing new versions of Suspiria and Inferno later this year, so I'm guessing there will be some more Argento down the line. I can see Phenomena and Tenebre being released at some point. It seems like BU releases a ton of titles early in the year, and then some more in the fall. It'll be interesting to see what they come out with this coming spring.

I was at Amoeba Records today. It's this store in LA that specializes in CD's/DVD's/VHS. They actually had Manhattan Baby there....it was $19.99 I was about to buy it, but I remember you saying that BU are re-releasing it, so I decided to hold off on it. I've wanted to see it for a long time. I looked on the back cover and saw that Bob was in it. I bet his voice-over is terrible.

There's a new Hellraiser SE coming out next year.

What did me in the most, I spent $43 on Lizard in a Woman's Skin. I had no credit card at the time, and did what I had to but either way, the cheapest I could get it in Canada was $43 with tax. Then a year later, they re-released a better edition (uncut widescreen instead of uncut fullscreen) for $12. Then there's the $15 Shriek Show DVDs I bought that came out in 3 packs for $12.

The Dream Master
08-30-2007, 01:42 AM
Actually, I think that new Hellraiser SE is coming out this year because it's a 20th Anniversary release. I'll probably just stick with my Hellraiser/Hellraiser 2 combo set.

What really fucking sucks is how I spent over $200 for the Paramount Fridays the first time they were released. This was way back when Paramount was charging $30 for bare-bones releases (this was true for the first six, anyway--I think TNB and JTM were only $20). I didn't know any better than to shop at local brick and mortar stores--not that I could shop online much anyway because I didn't have a debit card or anything.

Also, I ordered A Lizard in Woman's Skin the other day. It cost around $9. :p

09-04-2007, 02:59 AM
I hope this year it doesn't snow on or around Halloween. It just kills the mood for me.

Halloween is neat, horror-wise. I don't want to watch a gory movie. I want to watch classics. Universal, Hammer, AIP, movies of that sort. Stephen King, even. Slashers, besides Halloween, just don't cut it in October (most barely cut it anytime). Italian gore or zombie movies wouldn't cut it generally either, although House By the Cemetery would. It's all about the story in October. It's about the atmosphere and the music. Gore and kills take a backseat to the supernatural. I don't know why this is, I never saw many classics as a kid. Maybe it's because monsters are the key costume on Halloween on the streets, and it is more reflected in the movies I like to watch at that time of year. The mere fact that I'm getting so excited about this so soon is a good indication that by the time October rolls around, I won't care anymore. :(

To encourage my horror watching this October, I'm planning on making a thread where forum members keep track of all the horror they watched that month. Maybe it'll light a spark under my ass to watch more of the movies I own but haven't watched.

MaDMaNMaRz
09-04-2007, 07:35 AM
I'm actually the same! :) Usually in October, I tend to watch horror movies that are more suspense, and atmosphere based.......rather than gore. Although I do find myself watching a FEW gore movies. I tend to watch Halloween 1-4 alot during the Halloween season.

Boo, you read my mind. I've seen other forums that have an annual horror movie challenge where members keep track of how many they watch. There's designations and shit for if you watch a certain amount. For example, 13 would complete the challenge at a basic leve, 31 is a step above, and any more than that goes above and beyond. We're definately going to do that shit here come October 1st.

1. The Omen got remade and so did The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (two of the most influential horror movies from the 70's). Therefore, my question is: When will The Exorcist get remade??

2. Is Dakota Fanning old enough to play Regan? I don't think that finding a girl to play Regan will be difficult. Finding a voice as scary as Mercedes McCambridge's, however, will be a challenge to whoever decides to direct the movie.

3. Will the new poster look just as good and iconic as the one that was used to promote the original movie? I seriously wonder what the new poster would look like.

4. You know, I personally wouldn't mind if the Exorcist got remade. I don't expect it to be as good as the original; however, I am curious as to whether it would be a good movie or not.

Well, at least I'll know I'll have at least one other son of a bitch keepin' track with me. ;)

As far as designations go, I never really understood them. Two Freddy's Nightmares episodes = 1 movie, to me. Three tales From the Crypt episodes = 1 movie. It's all horror, you're just pissing around with times at this point. Plus, a lot of Universal classics and other movies of the era were an hour long, hard to not count them.

Either way, my goal will be 31.

The Dream Master
09-05-2007, 01:19 AM
I'd say as long as it's around an hour long, it counts.

And I don't know if I'll be able to get to 31 since I only get to watch movies on the weekends, but I'm going to try like a motherfucker. I think last year I ended up close to 20.

As for my October viewing habits, I usually break up every week/weekend in to series or genres. For example, I'll watch nothing but Zombie flicks one weekend, then classics the next, and so on. I very rarely watch any standard "slashers" except for Halloween (of course).

Also, I have three films that I must watch every year on or around Halloween night: the aforementioned Halloween, Suspiria, and Black Christmas.

1. I thought it already did? People said the remake sucked though

2. Probably.

3. If they can make it look darker than the original. Maybe instead of a shot of DC something more sinister. Though that would be difficult since DC does have SouthEast....

4. I wouldn't mind it either if it can be just as much fun as the original

Personally I thought High Tension was the best slasher movie made in a very long time. I loved the ending, because it offered an awesome twist.

I hope The Exorcist never gets remade. Then again, I hoped the same thing for Dawn of the Dead, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Psycho, and Halloween. Wait a minute, I hoped for those movies never to be remade and they were, so maybe if I hope for The Exorcist to be remade...it will not. :) Well, it's worth a shot. :D

I have the Dimond Entertainment version of House by the Cemetary, and damn it is awesome! I love that film. That and Zombi 2 are my favorite Fulci films!!!

It definately varies for me. I've had some orders take over a week, but others have only taken about 3-4 days. I know Old-Boo-Radley ordered a ton of DVDs from them one time and it took a while. Then again, he lives in Canada, so that was probably a factor.

My local Wal-Mart has their annual Halloween DVD section out now. Some curious choices (Bringing Out the Dead, Lifeboat), and a lot of Stephen King adaptations. Most of the films are $5 apiece, which is nice. I piecked up Prophecy (the Frankenheimer film), Omen III (since I have the first two), and the aforementioned Lifeboat (because it's a Hitchcock film I don't have). Oh, and I would have picked up Silver Bullet as well, but it wasn't in stock.

And, just in case anyone doesn't already have them, the first eight F13 films are there for $5 apiece. Ouch.

ChoKo

Wal Mart has some obscure shit in their Halloween DVD section. I'm talking about stuff like The Return of the Killer Tomatoes and The Killer Tomatoes Eat France. Yikes.

I'm considering picking up Friday 1, since Paramount's original single release had longer takes of Annie's slitting and Mrs. V's beheading while the box set edition was just the older versions we'd all known and loved.
