View Full Version : Great Songs for Video Slideshows

I made a senior video for my fellow high school band members way back in 2002. Little did I know that I would spend the next five years making videos for various family events. I've made videos for graduations, birthdays, anniversaries, "just 'cause," and I even made a video for my grandfather's funeral.

There's nothing to it, really. I used to use a few pieces of video equipment but eventually switched to using my computer to do everything. It just takes some time and effort (and Windows Movie Maker).

First off, I'll list the songs I have used in videos past. They all worked out great in the long run.

Songs I've used (for whom I used them):

Pomp and Circumstance (graduation videos)
Hey Now, You're an All Star (a boy graduate)
That Don't Impress Me Much (a boy graduate who loved Shania Twain)
Good Riddance AKA Time of Your Life (messages for graduates)
I Hope You Dance (messages for graduates)
5,250,600 Minutes (boy graduate who loves Broadway)
Wide Open Spaces (girl graduate)
Breakaway (girl graduate)
People Let Me Tell You About my Best Friend (boy graduate and his best friend)
We Are Family (graduates and their family members)
This Ones for the Girls (girl graduate and her girlfriends)
There Are Places I Remember (boy graduate and the various people in his life)
100 Years (messages for graduates)
I Got You Babe (for a couple on their anniversary)
I Can't Help Falling in Love with You (for a couple on their anniversary)
Love And Marriage (a couple and their children... anniversary video)
Soak Up the Sun (a video about a beach vacation)
Love Shack (a tribute to the hotel room on the beach vacation)
California Girls (girl graduates at the beach over the years)
Unwritten (a girl graduate)
I'll Be There for You AKA Friends theme song (girl graduate and her family)
You're Beautiful (girl graduate's modelling pictures)
Goodbye To You (messages to graduate)
She Is the Prom Queen (girl graduate... pictures of her as prom queen)
Yesterday When I Was Young (grandfather's funeral... younger days)
May The Circle Be Unbroken (grandfather's funeral... rest of his life)
Go Rest High on That Mountain (grandfather's funeral... poem at the end of video)
What a Difference You've Made in my Life (boy graduate)
Child of Mine by Carole King (boy graduate with parents)
Thank God for Kids (boy graduate with siblings)
Beautiful Boy (boy graduate)
It's Too Late to Turn Back Now (anniversary video)
Have I Told You Lately That I Love You? (anniversary video)
In the Summertime (beach trip video)
Surfin' Safari (beach trip video... ocean pictures)
Who Let the Dogs Out? (dog tribute video.. don't ask)
Girls Just Want to Have Fun (girl family members)
Macgyver theme song (tribute to a father who can fix anything)
Friends Forever (friends' graduation video)
Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off (comedy video for an aunt who loves margeritas)
Stacy's Mom (comedy video of a girl graduate named Stacy's mother)

I'm pretty sure I've missed a few, but you get the gist of what I do. I try to find songs that fit the pictures, and then I set the pictures to the song on a video slideshow. Really, that's pretty much all there is to it. How I became the videomaker of all occasions in my family, I don't know. I guess I'm just the one who has the spare time and care enough to sit down and do it.

--------------------

Now I'm going to ask for a suggestion. Skip to the next bold part if you want.

I'm currently working on my brother's graduation video, and seeing as I'm having problems coming up with a song for him, I thought it'd be a good idea to start a thread for song suggestions for video slideshows. I know I can't be the only person who makes videos, especially now that YouTube has made everyone and his mother a director.

Anyway, here is some information about my brother. I'm trying to find a song to set pictures of just him through the years (from birth to graduation) to. He is very smart. He plans on working in the science field. His favorite musicians are Weird Al, Queen, and Billy Joel. He's a boy (obviously). He's straight. He's a little weird.

I'm thinking about using "My Life" by Billy Joel, but I'm not really feeling it. Let me tell you the parts of his video I've already worked out:

- Opening - something written while "Pomp and Circumstance" plays
- video of my parents telling me and my siblings that they're going to have another baby... no music
- video of us seeing him in the hospital for the first time ("Do You Remember" by Jack Johnson playing softly in the background)
- pictures of just my brother (SONG NEEDED)
- pictures of my brother with our parents (SONG NEEDED)
- pictures of my brother with his siblings ("He Ain't Heavy; He's my Brother")
- pictures of my brother in old Halloween costumes ("Too Bad You're Crazy")
- messages from family members ("The Scientist" by Coldplay)

I don't like to use songs I've used previously. Anyway, that's the basic skeleton of the video. I'll probably add some more meat to it (more home videos, some other segments, etc.)

-------------------

So, long story short (too late), I am asking for suggestions, but this is also a thread to suggest songs for any kind of video slideshow. If you think a certain song you know would go great to pictures of a graduate, couple on their anniversary, someone celebrating his birthday, someone who has passed away, someone just born, etc. please leave those suggestions here.

I'm a "Weird Al" Yankovic fan, tried and true. And I'm a Queen fan. So I do have knowledge of their work and what could work as a suggestion. For pics of your brother by himself, I'd go with Al's "White & Nerdy" from "Straight Outta Lynwood" or "Good Old Days" from "Even Worse". Maybe just "Happy Birthday" from Al's self-titled debut album. Listen to those songs. One should come close to fitting him there.

From Queen, I'd go with "Those Were The Days Of Our Lives" from "Innuendo". That's the one with your brother and your parents.

Michael Buble' - You and I

That would go great for a wedding video or something.
