Who have you had success with lately?

I met up with guys from the Halloween message board last weekend for HorrorHound over in Indianapolis (it returns in November if anyone wants to know) and met up with some cool individuals to get some autographs. Here's where I go image crazy.....

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v312/Franchise1977/100_1130.jpg

Chris Jericho was there. Don't ask why. Just bathe in his glory.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v312/Franchise1977/100_1129.jpg

That's Hanna Hall. She was sweet, but seemed distant. I'm glad I got the poster considering in November Daeg Faerch will be there along with Cybil Danning. Adding more to it will clutter my wall less.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v312/Franchise1977/100_1128.jpg

Bill Moseley was awesome. He had a cool story about like minded individuals that ended with him saying a like minded individual was breaking into my car outside. heh

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v312/Franchise1977/100_1126.jpg

PJ Soules. You can't really say anything about her except what you have heard is true. She's really nice and seems to care about fans.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v312/Franchise1977/100_1125.jpg

Ken Foree and Sid Haig. Ken hated me. Sid wore all kinds of tourquoise jewelry. They both seemed to be having fun.

If anyone is going to HorrorHound in November, PM me. We can make it like a 2 board deal and we'll all just meet up in Indy.

Thank you, scab.

Like I said in the old forum, I'm trying to get my F13 parts 1-8 VHS box covers signed so I can put them on display and finally get the box set.

Signed and returned are...

Ron Millkie (part 1)
Jack Marks (part 2)
Bob DeSimone (part 5)

I mailed Annie Gaybis part 3, Ann Ryerson part 6, and Lar Park Lincoln part 7. Still nothing back yet.

I'm not sure who I'll have better success with for The Final Chapter, Ted White or Camilla/Carey More. Any suggestions? I have addresses for both.

Then there's part 8 to worry about.

I sent out requests to a lot of people. I doubt many will return as they are KNOWN addresses, but very dated ones of Tiffany Helm, Debra S Hayes, Jerry Wallace, Petru Popescu, Martin Kitrosser, Carol Watson-Kitrosser, Connie Hogan, Jere Field,Virginia Fields, Marilyn Poucher, Mike de Luna & Marguerite Happy.

This was my latest. It's a copy of Predator: Cold War #1 signed by artist Ron Randall and writer Steve Mitchell. This series was special because it featured the return of Schwarzenneger's character Dutch from the first film.

Just got my Jason Lives VHS cover back from Ann Ryerson. She personalized the signature on the cover, signed my index card, and included a signed photo of herself. Mailed my items to her in early June. Very happy with the mail today.

Classy lady.

Still pondering over Ted White or the More sisters for The Final Chapter cover. I hear Ted may not be as open to sign as others. I need to piss or get off the pot here.

Ted will sign, but he's choosy as he doesn't want his sigs to end up on eBay. If you send him money he will sign for sure though.

Thanks, scab.

Could any of you be so kind as to send me Ted White's contact info? I'd love to have an autographed photo to display over my Sideshow fig.

By the way, is Larry Zerner the nicest guy in the world, or what? He sent me a very kind reply, in response to an email I'd sent him. I also recently got an email from Tom Morga, who is also a super nice guy. My favorite "Jason" in terms of the real person.

Did some reading on Camilla More - seems she and her husband are running a production company now. I'm not sure if she is still doing Sublime Designs or not, so I don't think I'll send my VHS cover to that address for a signature. Does anyone know if she's still accessible through SD? Thanks if you can help.

You da man, scab. Thanks!!! :)

No, you da' man, Shoe. Thanks for the info. you provided me with, btw.

Within a couple of days, I got Tom Morga and Larry Zerner. Two incredibly nice guys.

I'm sending out a few letters tomorrow to; P.J. Soles, Danielle Harris, and Scout Taylor-Compton.

Then, the holy grail (for me) - Mr. Ted White. I'm a bit of a newb to collecting, so I only have one F13 Sideshow, from Final Chapter. But, if I can get it, I think that would look great, framed over that figure. I'd eventually like to have em' all (from the Paramount years, anyway) with autographs of the actors who portrayed em', displayed over them.

Just got an autograph from Shavar aka Reggie the Reckless. Took about 5 weeks. Unfortunately, he was out of headshots, so he signed a photocopy of one. I'm still pretty pleased, though. But, if you're going to request an autograph, in the near future, you might want to consider sending him something to sign.

Just got my part 3 VHS cover back, signed by Annie Gaybis.

She chose to use my index card to scold me a bit, saying I didn't include my payment for her autograph and that clear instructions for this were on her website. She did, however, personally sign the cover.

I feel a bit shitty now, because I got her address from the site. I didn't see anything about being charged to have something signed, but maybe I didn't search hard enough. Could very well be my bad.

sCabbOy
08-25-2007, 06:19 PM
She must have just started charging. When I first got her auto she mentioned that I was the second F13th auto she did.... so maybe a lot of people are mailing her now.

Not to be rude, but I can see why people charge for autos since it is a service, but for a short role I would not care if people did NOT send money, ya know? There's someone (I wont name names) but he had a pretty sweet 5 second scene in a movie, but no words... but he won;t sign anything for any less than 20 bucks. I think that's criminal.

I can understand HIS own pics, bu if you bring something he still charges 20.

Shoesalesman
08-25-2007, 09:23 PM
I mailed Ron Millkie his requested $5.00 USD a few months ago, which was no problem. He included a signed pic along with my signed stuff on the mail back.

Just went to Annie's site and I saw she was asking $15 USD for a signature on HER provided photo, so I wonder if that cost applied to sent-in items too. If I knew that was the cost I would have made a more informed decision.

I'm just happy she signed the cover, after all... she could have just sent it back without looking at it.

I'd post pictures from my site but they're entirely too large so I'll just list the horror autographs I have aka just Maniac Cop-related. I'm too lazy to upload them to Photobucket.

Larry Cohen(writer/producer Maniac Cop 1-3 & Uncle Sam, writer/producer/director of Bone, God Told Me To, Q, The Stuff, etc)
Laurene Landon(Theresa Mallory in Maniac Cop & Maniac Cop 2)
Robert Z'Dar(Matt Cordell in Maniac Cop 1-3, Yamashita in Samurai Cop, Cyborg Master in Future War)
Robert Davi(McKinney in Maniac Cop 2 & 3)
Claudia Christian(Susan Riley in Maniac Cop 2)

Larry also sent me an autographed copy of The Larry Cohen Collection, which features his movies Bone, Q, & God Told Me To. He also autographed one of the Stuff ice cream cups from "The Stuff." Hell of a nice guy. Very friendly & appreciative of his fans.

Laurene has sent me numerous autographs. Total sweetheart & one of the kindest people I know. She also sent me an autographed copy of her movie, Hundra. She plays a female Conan-type in it.

I do have this one uploaded to my Photobucket account:

So excited about this one. Even more so than the Angus Scrimm's - and that is saying something. So, I broke out my Sideshow Final Chapter Jason, and I'm going to frame the pic ted sent me, and put ot behind the figure to display in an old medical instrument storage cabinet I bought. Anyway, after 13 months of waiting I finally got Sharlene Martin's autograph. I mailed her a request in October of last year and a signed 8X10 picture and personalized letter came back two days ago.

Nothing from Friday the 13th yet, but I'm new at this game...

TCM poster signed by Gunnar Hansen
Essential Clive Barker book signed

Natman
11-19-2007, 03:33 PM
Funny thing, that. Considering how I live in Maine, on the opposite side of the country from LA. The only thing close to a convention that I've ever been to is Charles Band's Roadshow in 2005. Must confess that I have yet to actually meet Clive Barker, I just have a signed book. Stephen King is one of my best friend's uncles and is just another perk to living in Maine. Gunnar Hansen lives about fifteen minutes from my house, though he's usually off doing conventions and films and whatnot. I interviewed him for a high school paper on the importance of horror films and got an autograph out of him too. Frank Langella rented a cottage at the college my mother works at, which is how that came about.

In other words, pure f**king coincidence.

Especially if it is Bruce Campbell. Depending where he;s at it may cost you 50-60 bucks to get his sig. Case and point... (true story)

At one show, you had to pay to get in the con, wait in a line to buy Bruce's book, but he wasn't signing them (how hard could it be?) at that con.

The following night he was at a theater during an Evil Dead screening, but signing, so again you had to pay admittance and wait in line again for him to sign for 20 bucks.

So,
10 to get in
15 for book
10 to get in
20 for sig.

That sucks about the road to a Bruce Campbell autograph. I'd gladly drop $20 straight up for an autograph because I'd love to scan it & put it up on the MCF website. Also because Bruce is one of my favourite actors.

That's ridiculous. I can't believe it costs so much just for an autograph. I mean, if it was someone's autograph I really, really wanted, I would pay maybe $20, but I don't think they should MAKE you pay just for a signature that takes what, 5 seconds to write. They make enough money as it is, they shouldn't try and milk the fans of their movies for more $$$.

I do have 2 autogrpahed items. One is the Halloween III soundtrack that I mentioned in the Halloween III thread and an autographed photo of Jane Badler from 'V' fame. (in case anyone doesn't know what it is...it's a 1980's sci-fi show about lizard invaders posing as humans trying to take over the earth).

It wasn't me BTW, DeadPit.com told the story of when they went to get an auto from Bruce. They now run little commercials on their show about Bruce being greedy, it's pretty funny.

nottidelterrore
12-07-2007, 03:42 AM
It really sucks about Bruce being greedy since I admire him so much. When I did an interview with him for the MCF site, he was really nice about it. He told me that I could ask him 5 questions, which I did. His answers were brief yet they were informative. He's just a straight to the point kind of person, I guess. I'm grateful to him for answering the questions & for how nice he was in the email. Still, I'd easily drop $20 for an autograph of him. I just wouldn't want to take many steps just to get there & be out $50.

I agree. It's pathetic and greedy when a star charges money just to sign something or take a picture (at least that much money). They're not satisfied with the ridiculous amounts of money they get paid just to perform in front of a camera?

sCabbOy
12-08-2007, 08:00 PM
A lot of celebs rightfully so charges. Some people have to pay their own airfare and room to be guests. Some celebs barely break even (trust me I have heard many of them speak about this). Not all guests have 1.5 hour waits and sign left and right... some celebs may do only 15 signatures a day x that by 20 and that's 300 bucks. Minus room food and transportation that's nothing.

Case and point. Stu Charno was a guest at a con in Texas... he had to rely on fans to buy him a ticket and stayed with a fan because the con wouldn't pay for him. Usually they only accommodate "big named" guests, which should be the other way around since someone like Bruce Campbell can bring in 25 grand in a week signing.

rpchurch
12-10-2007, 06:12 PM
I went to see Bruce at a signing for his second book, Make Love the Bruce Campbell Way. Now, this wasn't a con setting at all, just Bruce. But, they asked that you buy one of his books at the signing. So, the book cost me $15 (I bought If Chins Could Kill, which I highly recommend). In addition, they allowed you to bring one other item with you. And, he sat and chatted with us for awhile and took pictures. So, this might have been the exception vs. the rule, but I was pretty happy with my interaction with him.

However, I just got an autograph from the guy this whole things started with - Sean S. Cunningham. I just wrote him a little note, and he was kind enough to send back an autograph. I've not really attempted to get any non-horror stars' autographs but, the actors in this genre seem to be exceptionally kind, generous, and gracious. I'm sure this isn't always the case, but I've gotten quite a few autographs, and have yet to pay for one. Though I would definitely pay for Betsy Palmer's. However, her website seems to have expired, and I can't locate any contact info. for hers. So, that's the big one I'm still shooting for.

On the other hand, I got Ted White's (from Part IV) thanks to a couple of generous guys on this board (you know who you are). I know I've already said it, but that's definitely far and away my most prized F13 collectible.

Also heard back from William Peter Blatty. This was a big one for me, as The Exorcist is one of my favorite horror yarns of all time. He signed the 2 bookplates I'd sent him (which I'll be placing in my Exorcist and Legion novels) and a picture from the set, with a really nice note.

I'm shooting for a really big one next. Total crapshoot, but I'm going to try to contact Alan Moore (Watchmen, V for Vendetta, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, etc.) I hope it works out. But, Ted will always be my biggest success.

Betsy is easy to get autos from, writer her and she will oblige as long as you send SASE.

This is her last known address:
2A
44 West 85th St.
New York, NY 10024

But I;m not sure if it's valid.

But, the officialfridathe13th.com will FWD requests, but they charge.

sCabbOy.....when is the last time that address was good.....I mean the last time you used it? I would love to try and get her autograph. Betsy is still one of my favorites from Friday the 13th.

Oh I heard back from Paul Ehlers of MadMan. He told me if couldn't make it to the convention he is attending in Dallas, he would see what he could do to get my stuff autographed.

Nice guy. :)

I got something back from JErry Wallace today after 8 months. He typed a letter to, pretty much saying he wasn't going to respond but felt like he should because I was the first person ever to contact him. I also sent him a $5 paint pen too, haha.

But Ill scan it when I get around to it.

So, now I have every Jason actor/stuntman's signature except Dan Bradley, Glen Ennis and John Hock.

There's also 2 others I want but I don't know the names of- the guy who did the hanging in 3 and the guy in the opening dream sequence in 5.

Thought you guys might want to see this. I was a little bit bummed as (just last year) I sent Shavar a postage paid return envelope, and he sent me an autograph. Granted, it was just a piece of paper, but it was still very kind of him. And, it seems that the kind of people who would ask for his autograph are real fans, not people who are just going to turn around and put it on Ebay. At any rate, it seems that $20 is the "going" price for most F13 stars, but it seems a little bit steep. Oh well, I guess they have to eat, too. Here is the email I got:

Hi Shavar Ross Fan!

You are receiving this email because you have requested an autographed 8X10 photo of Shavar Ross.

We have been overwhelmed by recent requests for autographed photos of Shavar, and are now offering them via two ways. One way is through Paypal.com and the other through mail. Both are $20 for each photograph personally addressed to you, and signed by Shavar. If you choose to purchase via Paypal, you can go to Paypal.com and send your payment to info@tri7entertainment.com. If you do not have a free Paypal account you can simply mail your check, cash, or money order, with a self-addressed stamped envelope, to Shavar Ross c/o Tri-Seven Entertainment, Attn: Autographs, 23890 Copper Hill Drive, # 170, Valencia, CA 91354-1701. Please allow 1 to 2 weeks for delivery. Don't forget to include your name and/or title of the film or television program you're referencing. We are offering two photos to choose from at www.tri7entertainment.com/rossautograph.htm, or you may also send in your own photograph for Shavar to sign.

Thanks again for your continued interest and support of Shavar Ross!

Cheers and Blessings,

In their defense, if they pay $1300 for 1000 8x10s and they get 150 requests (he is sought after for other roles than F13th) it can get really costly. $20 is a bit step, but at the same time he is an actor, and acting is a business, ipso-facto $20 please.

You're absolutely right. The enjoyment I'd get out of it would be well worth $20. And, I don't think I've ever received an autograph that wasn't on a high quality photograph, either.

04-01-2008, 08:10 PM
I'd rather pay Shavar $20 than to pay Hodder and Englund $20 for their autographs. As far as I am concerned the lower-scale celebs should charge more than people like Hodder and Englund who can make $10,000+ to attend a convention with room and board.

kramerfan
04-01-2008, 08:57 PM
I agree with that scabboy.

Jigsaw
04-02-2008, 03:18 AM
In my opinion celebrities shouldn't charge for autographs at all. They make ridiculous amounts of money just to perform in front of a camera and we pay their salary by going to see their movies at the theaters and buying the DVDs and that should be enough. IMO it's very greedy and selfish for any celebrity to charge money for a signature or a picture.

sCabbOy
04-02-2008, 03:46 AM
But they don't make ridiculous amounts. Some make peanuts and really need the income from autographs to make ends meet. Not everyone is as fortunate as Bruce Campbell, Robert Englund and Jane Hodder who get paid $20,000 to attent a convention.

I think you have to make ends meet any way you can, like I said acting is a business and a job. If you make $3,000 for a movie that doesn't go far in Los Angeles.

Jigsaw
04-02-2008, 03:48 AM
The same applies for the working class, too. Celebrities who get paid upwards of thousands to perform make far more money than the working class does, and I'd be extremely grateful to be making something like $3, 000, especially when one is unemployed.

nottidelterrore

I want to start sending out some requests for autographs. I've never done this before. How should I go about it? Should the SASEs be the larger envelopes? Sorry, I'm kind of new to this. The autographs I've gotten in the past were either off Ebay or because I know the people that sent them to me.

sCabbOy
04-15-2008, 08:31 PM
Making 3,000 isn't a lot... some lower actors get 1-4 movie roles a year, that's less than 20 grand.

As for SASes..

Write a hand written letter for request.
Get an envelope, put on stamps and then put that and all of the pics and letters in a bigger envelope.

Jigsaw
04-15-2008, 10:35 PM
3 grand is more than what I make and more than what many other people I know make.

I've got a question for you autograph collectors. Have any of you sent out stuff that was not returned? I sent my DVD covers for F13:Part 3 to Tracie Savage, F13:Part 6 (which Lar had already signed)to Heidi Kozak , and Halloween: Part 4 to Danielle Harris. I checked with the respective offices I sent them to verify that they'd make it to them, and got a response on all 3 that they would make sure they got it. But it has been awhile now. So, what do you guys think? Nothing ventured, nothing gained? Or, not worth the rick? I'm neurotic enough that I won't be able to let those DVDs sit there without the covers, and I'll probably buy them again. But, I will be kind of bummed if I lost Lar's autograph in the process.

On the good side, Tom Savini returned my Texas Chainsaw II, F13: Part 1 and 4, and Dawn of the Dead DVD covers. So, that was definitely a BIG win.
ADDED:
Still no word from the More sisters. My Final Chapter video tape needs its cover back!!!! lol.

Shoe,

Did you ever get your DVD cover back? I see you're feeling my pain.

Yeah, over the years I probably have sent... 30 things that wasn't returned. Nothing to valuable except a Part 3 Japanese program (with signatures fromKratka, Zerner, Tracie Savage, Nick Savage, David Wiley and Brooker) I sent that to David Katims and never got it back. That was the last time I sent things like that in the mail.

Sometimes depending on how busy they are or how much fanmail they're receiving, it can take a while to get a response. And sometimes things do get lost in the mail.

I've sent photos out to be signed, but have never gotten them back.

At the same time I've received responses when I all but gave up hope.

For example, after a 3 year wait Def Leppard returned a cd booklet I had sent them. Well worth the wait considering the entire band signed.

Clive Barker also responded to a letter after a 3 year waiting period.

Rutger Hauer took a year to respond to a letter I wrote him.

And just recently, Kurtwood Smith responded to a letter I wrote 2 and a half years ago.

Sometimes you get a response, and sometimes you don't. But sometimes a little patience pays off. It all goes with collecting autographs through the mail.

If you really want to get into the hobby, I recommend joining a site such as StarTiger.com. It's great for looking up addresses. It also has a database system that allows you to keep track of who you've written to, who's responded, etc. It also has a great community with a lot of knowledgable folks (not to mention they're really friendly), and they even have a forum for conventions, public appearances, etc.

Check it out.

I figured with the volume of cool sigs you had, you'd be able to relate. But, I guess I've had more success than failures. Hopefully they'll still make it back.

Geddy,

I use fanmail.biz and the addresses sCabbOy provides on his page (thanks, by the way). But, I'll have to give that a whirl, too. Thanks.

Yesterday(Tues, Oct. 14th) I got back two autographs that I've been really anxious to get.

The first is Robert Englund. I sent him the photo of the two of us that was taken at the last Monster Mania. He returned it signed and inscribed:

http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/8108/englundso0.th.jpg (http://img515.imageshack.us/my.php?image=englundso0.jpg)

The second autograph is one I've been hoping and praying I'd get back. Not only because of whose signature I would have but because the photo I sent was already signed by two other cast members from that film. Now the film is mainly a comedy, but there are a lot of horror elements in the film. Heck, the word "Ghost" is even part of the title. This other autograph is non other than Dan Aykroyd on a photo of the Ghostbusters:

http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/4346/ghostbustersyd2.th.jpg (http://img515.imageshack.us/my.php?image=ghostbustersyd2.jpg)

I waited 275 days not knowing if I'd ever see this photo again when I sent it to Dan Aykroyd. The wait was totally worth it.

As you can see, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson have already signed the photo for me, and all three actors even added their respective characters names under their signatures. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll ever get Bill Murray to sign this photo as he's incredibly difficult to get through-the-mail. So I'm going to have the GB photo matted with this Bill Murray autograph I bought some time ago:

That's cool, Turtle. I always try and get a prop replica or piece of memorabilia signed rather than a photo (if I can).

Did you meet Ernie at a convention?

Yup, in Glasgow a couple of months back. I was amazed by how down to earth and friendly he was. Made you feel like you were old buddies.

This I know. I also had Dick sign a few posters Halloween II & II, Friday the 13th part V, and Child's Play 2 & 3. I had him sign the Crystal Lake Memories book too he wasn't interviewed but he is talked about so I thought that was close enough.

Yep PJ was there. Yeah Sean Clark tried to get Jamie to come but she bailed.

I may have a few more autographs before the end of the month. But after that nothin till mid march.

Wow Don....those are amazing. Some great stuff there. Yea I'm gonna be sending out some stuff too. I got a response from Michael Swan (Jason Lives) and Ronn Millkie (Officer Dorf Part 1)...he is always extremely nice. I'm gonna send my stuff to them. :) I cherish my Lar Park Lincoln auto's, my David Price (COTC II director) auto's, my Kane Hodder auto I got from sCabbOy earlier this year, and when I get these from Swan and Millkie, i'll be so happy.

Oh, and Paul Ehlers (MadMan Marz) and his son have messaged me back on MySpace several times when i would message them. They are awesome. He says he's gonna send me my dvd cover back signed and also include something from his collection. :)
