I just finished watching the new Anchor Bay DVD of this film. What a great movie! I saw it a looong time ago (probably over 15 years ago), but I hadn't seen it since. It was on sale for $10.50 at Amazon's Anchor Bay store two weeks ago, so I figured I'd get it (along with several other discs). I'm glad I did!

I still need to pick up the latest DVD. It's been awhile since I watched this, anyway.

Make sure you get the Limited Edition version with the highlighter that looks like a needle filled with re-agent fluid. :)

I bought that box with the highlighter. :D What a cheap way to sell a movie. But it worked. :P

I'd give Re-Animator, 7.5/10. This movie also got 4/5 stars, from the DVD and Video Guide. Wow, it's nice to see some horror movies recognized. Even if I don't quite understand the rating system.

I got this off Amazon.com a few weeks ago when it was cheap.
It was the Anchor Bay edition with syringe highlighter. The highlighter looks cool but I doubt I'll ever use it.
Anyway, this film is a hoot. I remember my Mom wouldn't let me watch this when I was younger, so I had to watch it with my cousins.
I love the opening credits, despite the fact the opening theme is a rip-off of Psycho. I also love the re-animated cat.

I did the same thing. $10.50 for this movie (along with the groovy highlighter) was too good a deal to pass up. I also got Phantasm, Dawn of the Dead (4-disc set), Day of the Dead (Divimax), Hellraiser, Hellbound, and Hellraiser: Bloodline.

I went a little nuts with the shopping. :mrt:

And I love the new Mr. T emotcon!!!!! Thanks Jeans! :D

Yeah, the score was completely Psycho, not to mention a tiny bit of Elm Street 1 in the last half.

I picked this up the other day and I must say after reading everyone's thoughts I can't wait to watch it.

One of the better films out of the trilogy. Didn't care to much for Bride, but the following one wasn't that bad either.

Here's a thought, since Tobin Bell is signed on for Saw 3 and 4 maybe Herbert West can re-animate his head.

Stuart Gordon's Re-Animator is perhaps one of the most enjoyable, and celebrated horror films of the mid 1980's. I do not think that any other actor could have protrayed Dr. Herbert West any greater than Jeffrey Combs. While this gore-fested horror film won critical acclaim and success, it did not keep Charles Band's Empire Pictures open long enough although it did bring us a slew of horror films including Troll, Trancers and Stuart Gordon's other films Dolls and From Beyond (another H.P. Lovecraft film, also starring cast members from Re-Animator.)

Such a good movie. I have the old Millennium 2 Disc Set still, I don't think i will upgrade to the Anchor Bay set. I find Bride to be the weakest of the trilogy, it's just nowhere near as good as the original or Beyond.

There was lots of gore in the original. It was pretty good.

I recently watched all three of these films. I had saw the original on video WAY back. It's been so long ago that I can't even guess as to what year it might have been. Then over the years, I had saw bits and pieces of it horribly hacked up on the Sci-Fi Channel. I had saw Beyond Re-Animator on Sci-Fi the year it came out; but had never saw it Uncut though. And I hadn't saw any of Bride. So, I decided to buy and watch them all.

--The Original Re-Animator was really good I thought. I liked the setting and the premise; plus Jeffrey Combs was great as West. It also works on the level of a great 80s gore film. A lot of wild things going on in the first film, and I was really entertained by it. All the scenes with the headless Dr. Hill were great. Especially the head giving head moment. lol

--Bride of Re-Animator was really underwhelming IMO. It just didn't have what the first film did I thought, although it did bring back several members of the original cast. I got a bad vibe from this one right from the beginning, where West and Cain are in South America and that cheesy text begins to appear at the bottom of the screen. I felt that was a really corny way to begin the story. I was annoyed by several of the supporting characters in the film. Especially the Cop and Cain's new love interest. It just seemed like they were buying a lot of time with some of the scenes in this movie. Although, I did like the scene where the Cop says Hill's head turned up at a carnival sideshow. I guess he took West's advice from the first film. lol

West wanting to create new life with Meg's heart as the basis was an interesting angle, but IMO, it dragged on for far too long. By the time it finally happens near the tail end of the film, "The Bride" comes alive for a brief struggle with Cain's girlfriend and then simply falls apart. I think much more could have been made out of the jealousy West's creation felt toward Cain's new girlfriend had her reanimation happened sooner. Then, the film just ends with basically a rehash of Dr. Hill's head coming after West with an army of creatures. Meh.

--I liked Beyond Re-Animator much more. The prison backdrop provided a feeling of freshness IMO that Bride did not have. It's also in my view, a better made film than Bride was. Maybe Yuzna had more of a budget on this one or something, because I feel he redeemed himself a little here. It was too bad that Bruce Abbott wasn't in this film, but I felt Combs did a nice job of carrying it on his own. It's not the first film, but a step up from the last one IMO, which is probably why my reaction to it was much better than I thought it would be.

I'm a big fan of these movies. I own Re-Animator & Beyond Re-Animator on DVD. I want the Pioneer Special Edition of Bride of Re-Animator more than about anything. It's my #1 sought after DVD. Combs really shines in these movies. I have a huge thing for Barbara Crampton after watching the first Re-Animator many years ago. The new Anchor Bay DVD is pretty awesome. I have the one with the syringe highlighter.

I had no idea there was a special edition of this movie. I wish I had before I spent $10 on the crappy Artisan reissue; which is R-Rated and isn't even in wide screen.

The prices I'm seeing on it (mostly used) are from $60-$100. :|
But I am a sucker for commentaries and the like, so I wouldn't rule out getting it one day.

I'm another guy who didn't care much for Bride. I could just as well forget it exists and go straight from 1 to 3. I can't wait for the new films!

Don't forget Castle Freak, a heavily Lovecraft-influenced film that's damn good despite its cheesy title. Director Gordon and writer Paoli returned along with Jeff Combs and Barbara Crampton.

I was about to drop $30 on a copy when lo & behold, that copy on Amazon sold & the cheapest was $40. I said "fuck it."

I'll get it one of these days.

I bought the new Anchor Bay edition as soon as it came out for about 22 bucks I think, so you guys got the best of me there. I'm always buying too soon...always.
I love this film, it's so over the top and fun I have to watch it every now and again.
So, is the theme just a rip off of Psycho or is it the actual score because I haven't seen Psycho in forever and I'll be surprised if it isn't the exact same. Great song either way, always watch all the way through the opening credits to hear it.

I got the new Anchor Bay edition of Re-Animator from Deep Discount, but it didn't come with the slip sleeve and highlighter. It didn't bother me much, although the image shown on the site was of the sleeve. I think I paid $16.00 for it.

The Anchor Bay Special Edition of Phantasm that I got from them did have its sleeve though.

I don't know if the theme is a rip-off or not but both do sound very similar.

The scene with Dr. Hill's head & a nude Barbara Crampton is one of the most fucked up things I've seen in a movie.

That scene is great, really puts the top it all on an already over the top flick.
Decapitated zombie head oral sex...this movie is great!

A little bit o' 1980s horror goodness from one of my favorite writers , H.P. Lovecraft and one of the best directors in the gnere and the only man who should try to adapt Lovecraft to the silver screen , Stuart Gordon . Bride and Beyond were great sequels . Looking forward to House should it get made .

I snagged the Anchor Bay with the trippy highlighter syringe yesterday. I saw a small bit of this demented flick back in the summer of '04 on Sci-Fi one morning. It was actually an extended scene where we find out that Herbert West is actually shooting up a diluted form of Re-Agent so the tweaky little bloke wouldn't need any sleep. The infamous "head giving head sequence" in the words of Martin from The Simpsons, "Disgusting, yet strangely arousing.":shyface: I caught the first and Bride on youtube.com a few months, and enjoyed the both of them. Although the first is still the best of the two. I would like to see Beyond in the future sometime.

Decapitated head licking your cunt
Sucking all the blood from your stump
Intestinal guts taking their hold
Leaving you dead, stiff and cold

Controlling the minds of the bloodthristy dead
Unholy seizure slicing through your head
Who will survive only time will tell
Dripping from your mouth comes a rancid smell
Lobotomised corpse shredding your flesh
Leaving your body a bloody mess

Scream bloody gore
Scream bloody gore

Inject the reborn terror, the blood comes spurting out
Another to control, add it to your count
Orders to destroy, rip and tear apart
Wishing for the end, your dead is just the start

Controlling the minds of the bloodthristy dead
Unholy seizure slicing through your head
Who will survive only time will tell
Dripping from your mouth comes a rancid smell
Lobotomised corpse shredding your flesh
Leaving your body a bloody mess

Scream bloody gore
Scream bloody gore

Armies of the dead
Hail their leader's head
Hungry for the flesh
While it's warm and fresh

Through the smoke who will see
Who will come out alive?
Now it's your turn to feel the pain
Now you're going to die

Classic song from Death about this classic.

I FINALLY got around to seeing this last year, whenI bought the DVD (for 25 fucking bucks. Goddamn you, Barnes and Noble!). I enjoyed it immensely, to say the least. The final 15 minutes are some of the coolest shit in any horror movie. Ever.
