MANILA, PHILIPPINES: A Filipina bride is suing her former fiance after he ran off with another woman before the wedding ceremony had even finished, the Philippine Star newspaper reported Saturday (February 23rd).
The couple had nearly finished saying their vows when a woman appeared at the back of the church and shouted that the wedding should stop, the newspaper said.
The groom - who had been about to say "I do" - hesitated before walking to the woman and hugging her, and the pair fled in a taxi, the newspaper added.
The bride says she suffered "irreparable damages" and has not slept well after the incident in December.
She is reportedly seeking 549,630 pesos in damages.

Well, my friend was supposed to get married April 5, but the girl turned heel on him (wrestling term) right after they got engaged and finally Christmas Eve, he broke it off.
Now she's suing him for 5000 dollars for things like photographer deposit (which he wasn't consulted on the package - she got the most expensive one), catery deposit, wedding dress (his mom bought it), and she won't give him the ring back. Law states that unless it was given to her on Christmas or on her birthday, she has to return it.
He had to get a lawyer. It's insane. He did it well in advance. But based on what I know from this situation, the Filipino bride does have a case unless the groom can prove she was unfaithful before the wedding. Then there's another whole can of worms to be opened, legally.

If she and/or her family paid for the wedding expenses, she should sue. and she should win. I don't think anyone should be able to leave anyone at the alter without helping pay the wedding expenses. Weddings can be ridiculously expensive.

Heel means villain. I presume that means she cheated on him.

This is nothing new, there was a case on one of the court shows where a guy left his fiance at the altar and she sued him. An engagement is a LEGAL binding contract, and if it does happen you can sue for punitive damages (if any are incurred). However if she cheated I am sure she won't win unless the judge is really sympathetic to her case.
In small claims court the judge renders their verdict on what THEY think is more appropriate, not always based on truth or evidence. Also hearsay is emissable in small claims court and can turn a verdict over if the judge believes it.

She didn't cheat, that we know of or suspect, but she turned into a conniving psycho hosebeast. She wouldn't let him pick his own groom party, saying his two best friends (me and this other guy) couldn't be groomsmen b/c "They won't look good in the pictures."
Yeah... so I'm a little biased towards her anyway.
