I made this thread at the original F13th forum and alot of people were interested in the dvd coming out so I thought I would post it here also for anyone who might have missed the thread. :D
Great horror movie coming to DVD from MGM/Fox this September 11th. Gonna have commentary and storyboards as Special Features despite the original report of being barebones.

I already posted this in The Burning thread, but did you know that Scarecrows got 4 stars?!!

4 stars? I like this movie but 4 out of 5? I think that it's THAT good haha

Yeah, it was in the Video and DVD guide 2007.
:O This makes me interested. Very skeptical, but curious.

I like it. But it could have been better.
Did you notice under the title:
SCARECROWS
They only want a brain...yours!
That's not a Wizard of Oz rip-off...lol.

LOL, Now I get this film.
Thief: "Die mother fucking Scarecrow!"
Scarecrow: "If I only, had a brain!!!" *CHOMP!*

Along with The Burning this is the only title not up for pre-order and it's not listed on any trade websites as coming. Very strange...

I've noticed that too.

Is it going to be uncut?
CampNewBlood
07-25-2007, 09:12 AM
They haven't said. Only thing they have said is:
“You can expect commentary on the DVD from Cami Winikoff, the producer, [makeup FX artist] Norman Cabrera and yours truly,” the writer/director tells us. “Also included will be my original storyboards, to which the film is pretty faithful."
Joshg
07-25-2007, 06:42 PM
I'm sure it will be uncut. If they're releasing The Burning uncut (well, unrated, but I'm guessing it'll be uncut too) then they'll probably do the same to Scarecrows, sinc ethe release date is the same. Just because, releasing movies by the same people, on the same day, with differences in releasing in both of....I'm just going to scrap this argument altogether. :D

Too bad about the lack of extras on the DVD, but at least the transfer is solid.

I'm sure anough extras could not be obtained. That's my guess... all I care about is a nice transfer and hopefully 16:9 anamorphic. BTW, just because a movie is unrated doesn't mean it's uncut. A movie that would be rated PG could be called unrated.

Scarecrows is a classic. I love this movie. I'm definitely going to pick up the DVD when I get a chance. I don't like the new cover, though. :X

I haven't found this or The Burning in stores. :( Sad, only From Beyond, which I picked up immediately. Hoping to snatch this one up soon.

Transfer is solid and anamorphic. I received most of the MGM releases I was interested in at the same time so aside from a quick peek at the transfer I have yet to watch the movie...hopefully I'll sit down and watch it all in the near future.

Yea I love Scarecrows and ordered it from Best Buy's site and watched it when I got it. Kinda odd about the extras though...it was supposed to have a commentary and storyboards on it, but there isn't anything on mine. Strange.

Anyone notice how many "scarecrow" movies there really are, not many are even remotely good.
Scarecrows (this one) 3/5
Scarecrow 2/5
Then the 2 sequels
Dark Harvest 1-3 (shitty)
Night Of The Scarecrow 2/5
Dark Night Of The Scarecrow 3/5
The list goes on.

Haha, yeah, I noticed. Although I did like Scarecrows (this one) alot. I have seen all the other ones, except Dark Harvest 3. DH 1 & 2 were SO shitty, it's not even funny. Their wasn't anything remotely good about those. Dark Night is actually pretty decent, for a "Made for TV" movie IMO.

Saw this on the Horror Channel a while back. Weird film, kind of like that it was somewhat unexlained and there were some good ideas but not sure if there was anything that special about it overall.

Dark Harvest 2 was shot not too far from me.
In the movie there's a guy with a cell and you can see his phone number. Me and my coworker called it (since it's a 716 area code) and it went through. I wonder if it was the same guy.

Supposedly, William Wesley(director of Scarecrows) has been talking about POSSIBLY doing a remake of this. There was a "Retrospective" article in the last issue of Fangoria that briefly mentioned it. He said he would probably bring back Norman Cabrera to do the FX again, but the designs of the scarecrows would be different.

Screw the remake. Make a sequel.

Back then, there was talk of a sequel. It was supposed to be called Scarecrows 2: The Last Straw. But something happened with the budget, so they couldn't do it. :(

Figures....these remakes are gonna be the "Last Straw".

There's one called Jack-O as well which also has a scarecrow-like killer. Haven't seen that one myself, but it seems to be pretty bad as well judging from the amount of negative reviews I've read of it.

The DVD on Region 2 is very disappointing...i was over the moon when it was finally released on dvd a few months back, but the picture quality is very poor. It seems like a straight transfer from VHS. And there are no Special Features to speak of. They should of made more of an effort .
What is the Region 1 version like, with regards to picture quality and special features?
Fowlees
12-21-2007, 06:23 PM
Does the Region 1 version of this film have any Special Features to it?
What is the picture quality like on R1? (It's dreadful on R2. Looks like its been transferred straight from VHS).

Yeah, the transfer on this one is really good. As for the movie, it's decent. I do think it's the best scarecrow film. Other scarecrow movies are really bad, like Scarecrow Gone Wild. :X

I read somewhere that not only is the Region 1 transfer far superior to the Region 2 DVD, but that the R1 version is Uncut aswell.....Is there any truth in this rumour?
I see that the German DVD release of this film contains the origional artwork on its DVD cover, unlike the UK and US versions.

This film is also available under the title "Paratrooper" (Region 0).
Has anyone seen this version, and if so what is the picture quality (transfer) like...as good as Region 1 or as poor as Region 2?

Can't wait to see the great picture quality.

The DVD arrived the other day and i must say that the R1 picture quality is fantastic, and 10 times better that R2.
My multi-region DVD player really was a sound investment.
Patrick
02-03-2008, 09:48 AM
Yea the Region 1 is very good quality. That Region 0 "Paratrooper"....I wouldn't want that at all just for the fact the name itself doesn't even hint at anything horror and the movie is a horror film. How redundant.
Now if we can get "Town That Dreaded Sundown" on DVD.

For some reason, I doubt there will be a "Town..." DVD. It just isn't a marketable film, it's not a slasher or really even horror in some aspects. I doubt it will be released until a/the remake happens. John Gray once hinted on Guts And Gory that he may be directing the remake but that never came to fruition. There's an unauthorized remake of it happening called "Moonlight Murders", but as for a mainstream one it may never happen.

I think it will be released sooner or later. I think it is marketable. It is a helluva lot better movie than alot of the shit that gets released today on DVD...old and new movies. MGM supposedly owns the rights the last I read so I'm sure there will be one eventually.

Ugh, not a good cover to be found in any region apparently. I just finished watching this and I really dug it. I'm interested in hearing what people think the Fowler family was up to...were they long dead or perhaps they changed into Scarecrows at night? I guess the crosses without Scarecrow's were theirs so I'd say they have been like that for a long time.

I haven't watched it in awhile, but I think the Fowler's might have somehow turned themselves into Scarecrows? That sounds a bit farfetched, but I think that might have been the case.

I guessed that perhaps they made some Satanic pact and after they died they turned into Scarecrows. I can't really think of any reason you would just want to become a scarecrow unless it was a means of not being dead.
