Come on then.......What are the sorry films that are generally laughed at and ridiculed by film critics and society in general, but that you hold very close to your heart, and watch on a reasonably regular basis?

For me.....Roadhouse and The Unnamable to name but two.

This could very well end up becoming a long list, but I will jot down a few:

Night Train to Terror (1985), come on now who wouldn't love to see Night Court's Richard Moll as a crazy organ harvesting killer!

Seizure (1974) Oliver Stone's first film, a bizarre story dealing with an author's novel coming true.

Two Moon Junction (1988), an erotic sex film with Sherilyn Fenn and including veteran actors Louise Fletcher, Burl Ives, Juanita Moore and Herve Villechaize.

Too Scared to Scream (1985), underrated, but enjoyable slasher with a major familiar cast including TV's Mannix, Tarzan's Jane and Jaws' Mayor Vaughn all in one movie!

She-Devil (1988) I think this comedy with Rosanne and Meryl Streep has its moments.

Getting Away with Murder (1996) Dan Aykroyd and Jack Lemmon, but light on comedy, very underrated. Savoy Pictures' final theatrical release.

You know, the Matrix sequels get alot of heat, but I love them both. In fact, I think Reloaded is the best in the series.

Also, The Phantom Menace gets an unecessary amount of hate, too, but it's not that bad. It just didn't live up to the 16 year expectations so many had.

Anotehr guily pleasure of mine: True Lies. Don't know why people consider it James Cameron's worst film.

DC, if they consider True Lies his worst film, it's because they obviously haven't seen Piranha II.

DC, if they consider True Lies his worst film, it's because they obviously haven't seen Piranha II.

I commend your comment. Piranha II was more or less blamed on its executive producer, Ovidio G. Assonitis, whom for some reason micromanaged James Cameron's creative decisions and duties as the editor and director.

Assonitis eventually worked his way up to CEO of Cannon Pictures Inc. back in the early 1990's. Take a look at how bad Assonitis previous efforts as a director was: Beyond the Door (1974), ripped off The Exorcist; Tentacles (1977) ripped off Jaws; The Visitor (1979) starring John Huston, Shelley Winters, Lance Henriksen, Mel Ferrer.... and Glenn Ford!!!!! well I suppose that one is self explanatory.

To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar: Patrick Swayze, Wesley Snipes, and a surprisingly beautiful John Leguizamo (seriously, he looks like a pretty Rosie Perez) as drag queens stuck in small-town USA on their way to California for the Drag Queen of the Year Pageant. Many call it a cheap rip-off of Pricilla, Queen of the Desert, but I don't care. I find it campy and harmless fluff. Swayze's character was interesting, Snipes' quips steal the show, and Leguizamo actually pulled off being a woman best.

The Bates Motel: Made-for-TV movie which served as a pilot for a failed TV show starring Bud Cort (Harold and Maude) and Lori Petty (A League of Their Own). It's not particularly well-made, and it ignores Psycho II and Psycho III (Psycho IV was made later on), but it holds deep sentimental value for me and my sisters and I used to watch it all the time when we were young. The movie has its fair share of creepy moments and the parts dealing with the renovation and backstory behind the new ownership of the motel are interesting. The movie takes a hard left turn towards the end with a subplot dealing with a woman who wants to commit suicide but she's stopped by a bunch of ghosts of teens from the 50's who committed suicide led by none other than Jason Bateman, but now I know that was the part of the movie that showed what the TV show would have been like. I still have this on tape from where we taped it off TV in 1987 (I don't think it's on VHS or DVD for purchase).

I enjoy Alien: Resurrection although I suppose people consider it the worst of that series (barring AvsP).

More to come later...

I'm surprised to read that there is a lot of hate for True Lies. Everyone I know love that flick. Maybe not Cameron's best, but one of my favorite action flicks. Heck, when it was announce that Pierce Brosnan was taking over the role of Bond. The original Bond himself, Sean Connery, said that Pierce and Co. should take a look at True Lies when making the next installments for the Bond franchise.

I love True Lies myself. Very underrated flick, and the last great one that Cameron did. I've never been a big fan of Titanic, especially since it seems to have somewhat derailed Cameron's career. I can't wait to see Avatar next year.

Deathscythe

Road House
This is the king of bad movies that are so fun to watch. I used to watch this over and over again. Still do, sometimes.

The Monster Squad
This is such a fun movie and it's failure at the box office, I believe, came more from being way ahead of its time.

The Last Dragon
Who's Da Masta?!

Highlander: Endgame
Most people hate this movie, but I didn't really see anything terrible about it. Christopher Lambert was showing his age and he needed to be killed off. The Kate subplot came out of nowhere and didn't fit continuity, but when has the Highlander storyline ever been coherent?

The Bodyguard
"I've been watching you from across the room."
"Why don't you go back over there and keep watching?" ~Frank Farmer

It's a guilty pleasure, what can I say? I have no excuse.

I'll add some shitty, Jason Gedrick, films to my list:

The Heavenly Kid
Iron Eagle
The Zoo Gang (Which also features Tiffany "Violet" Helm.)

Other guilty pleasures:

Drop Dead Fred
The Eliminators (Crappy 80's action film with Denise Crosby.)
Conan The Destroyer

The Last Dragon

Sho'nuff.

Rambo 3 I second all of those films. I particularly enjoy Jason Takes Manhattan and Predator 2.

Add these to my list:

Maximum Overdrive - fun movie with a great soundtrack even though it's full of plot holes you can drive a truck through (pun intended).

CHUD - Great 80s horror flick which is a great homage to 50s monster movies and even has social commentary. I don't know why people rag on it so much.

Surf Ninjas - I loved this movie as a kid, and even then I knew it was a guilty pleasure.

Iron Eagle
Drop Dead Fred
Conan The Destroyer

I'll add those to my list as well.

The Heavenly Kid

I love that movie. A lot. The theme song is so hilariously 80's that it leaves me in stitches. I also remember seeing ads for it in some of my 1980s issues of The Amazing Spider-Man.

I like how Lewis Smith is "The Heavenly Kid" yet he's like 30. :lmao:

I really enjoyed this movie as a kid. I thought it was funny as hell and chock full of action. It was the butt of so many jokes in the 90s (it was especially mocked in Married with Children).

They say a guilty pleasure is one that you only watch when nobody is looking. I have a lot of those! To name just a few: Flash Gorden (1983), Princess Warrior, Shrimp On The Barbie, Suburbia, The Gumball Rally, Moonraker, Superman III and IV, Jaws 3... I better stop now.

License to Drive

I can watch most movies with Corey Feldman. And about half of them would qualify for this list! "License To Drive" is funny and I never thought of it as a guilty pleasure until I showed it to some friends and they hated it. They said it was a rip-off of Ferris Bueller. Bah! By the time it was over, I felt pretty stupid so, yeah... Guilty pleasure.

It is official, Exorcist II: The Heretic has become a guilty pleasure of mine.

This is one of those pathetic movies that I find myself watching a lot. Even as I watch it, I make fun of it and talk about how bad it is. Yet I keep watching. So I guess I'll have to admit it's a guilty pleasure.

I really like this one too. Not Arnold Schwarzenegger's best flick, but enjoyable nonetheless.

Also for me it would be the Critters movies, Brokeback Mountain, Howard the Duck, and National Lampoon's Senior Trip.

Oh, and Ghostbusters II, of course.

Why would Brokeback Mountain be a guilty pleasure? It won a ton of awards. Unless you'd be ashamed to admit it because you'd draw diapproval from homophobes, which, in that case, fuck 'em, they're the guilty ones. :)

LOL@ The Heavenly Kid. I used to watch this movie all the time when I was a kid and it came on HBO or Cinemax.

Some guilty pleasures that I can think of at the moment:

The Wraith - I'm a product of the 80's and damn proud of it. This is another movie I would watch on pay TV. I now have it saved on my DVR.

Like someone else said, ANOES part 2. No offense to any gay folks here but this movie has some gay overtones that would probably not go well in my neck of the woods. Seriously, if someone knew I had a guilty pleasure about this, they would think I had some sort of mental problem. (outside of the real mental problems that I have)

Aladdin - I don't really like Disney movies but I love this movie. I liked it even more when I was a teenager.

Hostel 1 and 2 - I know alot of people hated these movies. Some felt they weren't even real horror movies. I dunno how they came to that conclusion. I like em though. I even own them both on Blu-ray.

I always liked True Lies, very good flick IMO. And WOW @ Jamie Lee Curtis in that movie. I would hit that hard ;) I always like Last Action Hero as well, good fun.

I don't consider myself a homophobe, but I'd just rather not watch something with any type of homosexuality in it. Not because I don't like gay people or Im scared of homosexuality or some craziness, but just because some of it can really make my tummy turn. It's just my body's reaction, I can't help it. And to be fair, its like that with homosexual women too, not just men. I've heard Brokeback is over rated anyways.

Some of my Guilty Pleasure films:
Good Burger
3 Ninjas
Halloween - Ressurection

Fun movie. The Dodge M4S was nice to look at as was Sherilyn Fenn.
That movie was the OTHER film that Charlie Sheen did in 1986 (First one being Platoon). I also remember the movie having a bunch of other cool cars in it (Chevrolet Corvette, Dodge Daytona, etc).

I would consider these films “guilty pleasures” in that I like them while knowing most other critics and/or fans do not. However, I would not say I watch them “regularly”:

The Bunker
Halloween (2007)
Hellraiser: Bloodline
Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation

These are guilty pleasures that I watch fairly regularly:

Also add The Golden Child. Of all the 80s Eddie Murphy hits. This one gets the least amount of praise and respect. But I love it. I remember in particular Leonard Maltin dissing The Golden Child
