I've always been a huge fan of the Slumber Party Massacre movies.....the first being my favorite, 3, and then 2.
The plot of them are VERY basic, but they're very entertaining.

I remember getting these 3 movies from the first DDD sale I took part in. I loved part 1, the "Mine?!" quote from the shower scene is absolutely hilarious. Awesome teen sex comedies. I remember fucking despising part 2 when I was a kid, but renting it again years after I first did. This was when we only had part 2 in my town. Then when I re-watched it on DVD, I loved it! I didn't care much for part 3, though.
MaDMaNMaRz

Haha, I love Part 2. The guitar-drill idea was a bit far fetched, but I think it was pretty cool.......cheesy, but cool. :)
I really like Part 3 as well. I liked that the killer wore a mask for a portion of the movie. The first kill is my favorite( the car drill in the backseat)

One thing I noticed was in some of these movies, and the SHM movies they all had a scene where the girls were getting naked & playing around at their party while guys looked in the window and said to eachother "I didn't know they actually did this!" or something.
Love thes emovies.

Now that you mention the SHM films, 2 has really grown on me. I've always loved it, but now I would actually include it in my Top 10 list.

Gotta love these movies. I have all of them on DVD. I need to ge that Hard To Die dvd. Never have seen it though.
Isn't there a Sorority Girl Massacre movie supposedly being shown online or soemthing?....or going to be shown online....I read about that months ago. Jim Wynorski (I believe) said it had been butchered (heavily edited) or something.

I agree that the best kill in Part III was the backseat drill scene. That was atmospheric. I mean, the 90s had atmosphere!? Haha, kidding

These are three of my favorite slashers..wasn't the first made by a feminist?
Brett H.
07-19-2007, 08:42 AM
All 3 are directed by women.
yeah i thought so..i always that that was a cool aspect to shove in the critics face.

07-22-2007, 04:24 AM
Yeah, like boo said, all 3 were directed by women.
I recently watched SPM 3. I noticed in the scenes where they were drinking beer, the cans were just plain white with "beer" written on it. I thought that was pretty funny.

yeah, generic beer was popular back in the day. Archie Bunker used to drink it before he beat Edith;)

Okay, I think that Part 1 is my favorite of the series.
But Part 2 comes awfully close behind, with a 7/10.
I give Part 3 a 5/10. It was fun, but too sloppy IMO.
And yes, I know Part 2 had terrible editing. :D
I may not have seen Cheerleader Massacre, but I'll just pretend it doesn't exist. *whistles*
All three of this films are classic must haves for every slasher fan. I thiink they had pretty good box art too.
MaDMaNMaRz
08-18-2007, 09:11 PM
I agree Peter. The original's cover art was always my favorite of the 3.
Recently after watching SPM 3, i'd have to say that now it's actually tied with 1 for me. It's from 1990, but it feels like it was made in the 80's, haha. The kills were great, and I think the overall atmosphere was actually pretty good.
I was at a Suncoast Video recently, and was browsing through the horror section. I noticed they were selling a used copy of SPM 3 for $9.99 - I thought to myself, "Who the hell would sell SPM 3?!?" If I had money on me at that moment, I would have purchased it to give it a proper home. :) :D

I always have a chuckle at the psycho's dialogue shortly before he gets killed.
He doesn't say a word through the entire movie , then comes out with something like (pardon my mis-quotation, i can't remember what he says word for word) :
""You girls are pretty, real pretty.....i love you!""
It's the part when he says "i love you" that always makes me . It just sort of comes from nowhere.
These are some of the most fun, ridiculous slashers out there. I don't know of many fans that don't love these films. I don't doubt their existence..I just haven't come across them in my many years.

I love the first two, almost equally! Part 1 in the lead, but Part 2 isn't far behind.

I've always noticed that too. I also wonder what drugs the makers of SPM II were on, because it's just OUT THERE, haha. I still love it though. :)
I love these films because there is never any real explaination or motive for the killings. Just some psychopath killing hot chicks. It's a formula that can never get old for me. It's like it's encoded in my DNA.

I'm dying for Sorority Girl Massacre. I guess Wynorski has been having problems with it. You'd think it would get a distro super fast with the cult success of the SPM and SHM movies. A few years back it was supposed to be released on the web but that never happened.

MaDMaNMaRz

You can watch 2 first without watching the original. 2 actually uses the story of the original SPM to tell the story. It's basically a stand alone film.

It's like this basically
In SPM, Russ Thorn (the killer) is just some random guy that kills random people. In SHM 2, they play it out that Russ Thorns victims were family...and he just went crazy.
You'd love SHM 2, Tim. It's one of my favorite slashers, actually.

It's much like Har4d To Die being a SHM sequel, but not really. It has Orville in it and some of the same actresses (different characters) but really the movie hearkens back to Slumber Party Massacre more than Sorority House if I am not mistaken.

I loved 1 and 3. 2 was ok, I liked the gore effects and the guitar-drill (looks like something Blackie Lawless would use at a W.A.S.P. show) and the Elvis lookalike as the killer, but the story is pretty weird, and it's a bit hard to tell whether or not Valerie (the main character) is hallucinating or not later on in the film. Plus the climax wasn't great. The first one is classic B-horror. It's pretty hard not to like it if you like low-budget movies, and it's definitely a stand-out example. My favorite, however, is the third one. I liked it's back-to-basics approach, and it expanded very much on the original. Plus it has a masked killer and a chainsaw scene, along with the other classic SPM elements, so what's not to like? It's sad that they are out of print now, I'm sure glad I got 'em when I did!
ADDED:
In the DVD and Video Guide, they gave a "turkey" to SPM 1 and 3, but 2 stars (**) to SPM 2. Hehe,
I need to buy the new one of those. Some of those ratings they give are absolutely ridiculous!

Dusk once talked with Wynorski about the SGM movie, maybe he can get word. I know there was a blurb about it on the retroslashers page.
ADDED:
Here we go:
Back in 2003, Jim Wynorski of Chopping Mall, Sorority House Massacre 2 and its secret part 3, Hard To Die, shot a "proper" Sorority House Massacre 3 under the title Final Exam, with the intentions that it'd be released as SHM3. But not only was it stripped of its' sequel status when it was decided to change the it to The Legacy (similar to how Slumber Party Massacre 4 was retitled Cheerleader Massacre), it didn't even get a chance to wonder the DTV world under any title, because it fell into distribution limbo when Roger Corman sold Concorde Pictures! Jim recently told us: "Heavily edited for content, the film is finally being released to Internet PayPerView under the title Sorority Girl Massacre. I'm not exactly sure when this will happen, but I assume within the next six months. Although I've been informed of all the cuts, I'm still not exactly sure how severely the picture was truncated." Phew, got that? Just release it already, someone.

FYE have some good prices on DVDs- $11.99 - $14.99, but big name movies are usually $22.99 - $27.99 and that's bullshit.

It's like in (Joseph Clark's) Massacre (AKA Bikini Party Massacre), there's a part where a girl is hung from a tree with no arms or legs. It's only masking to remove the legs and arms and it looks so stupid.

I never saw Cheerleader Massacre, but I haven't really been wanting to. I don't really consider it SPM 4 anyway. Also, I just remembered taht the back cover of the SPM 3 DVD has scenes from Sorority House Massacre II on it. LOL. Also, that's the complete uncut version, despite the R rating on the back.

According to the IMDb, the Massacre Collection DVD has all the original gore and 7 extra minutes. It doesn't seem cut (although, it's not an all out gore fest to begin with). It's supposedly the only uncut version. The same thing happened with The Burning. But again, you may not want to look at the back cover, because the killer's identity is revealed!

Y'know, what's funny is the first time I watched SPM III I didn't like it too much., Then I watched it again a couple months later and loved it. I think it's because I didn't know the killer was wearing a mask until I read a review of it saying he was. I actually thought that the bug-eyed weirdo killed the first couple people, before the killer was revealed. LOL. Probably because the first few kill scenes are kind of dark. Now it's one of my favorite movies ever, and it's definitely my favorite of the 3 (I really don't want to kill Cheerleader Massacre the 4th one) I may watch 2 again, to see if I like it better. But honestly, the movie is pretty muddled from what I remember. I still don't see how the killer all of a sudden became real (although it's been about 3 years since I watched it last). I really do hope the original trilogy are some day given special edition DVD treatments. I'd love to hear commentaries on those.

They are only outrageous because they are OOP... now it's people like us trying to milk every cent out of collectors and that's when you see skyrocketing prices. Look at how much the Rawhead Rex, Nightmares, Munchies and Ms45 go for so damn much. Anchor Bay is bad for this, they get contracts to release other distributor's films for a short time and when that contract is up the movies fall OOP (sometimes after a year or two) and that's when you see those AB DVDs for like 75 bucks.

SPOILERS HERE
It's because his uncle molested him as a kid, and when that chick started trying to take his pants off, he went off the deep end. As for the 3 people he killed before them, I have no clue. I used to think it was the weird guy on the beach until I saw it was a mask. And the scene in the lumberyard where he reveals himself as the killer is great. "Hand me that sledgehammer. Yeah.... that's real nice" WHACK!

Haha yes it is very dangerous. I hope to find some good DVDs & tapes within the next few months. After I get all three SPMs, I'm going for both Sorority House Massacres. I'll probably get Cheerleader Massacre too although it doesn't seem to go for too much.
And thank you. :)

You're welcome. :)
I still need the Sorority House Massacre movies too. I've got Cheerleader Camp and Return to Horror High as gifts and now you just reminded me I need to add Cheerleader Massacre to my list. :p

I have Cheerleader Camp but I don't have Return to Horror High yet. I'll probably get that one sometime soon.
I want to get Hard to Die as well since I hear it's party of the Sorority House Massacre series but it's kind of pricy. I'll look into it some more though.

I'm most worried about adding SPM 2 and SHM 2 to my collection right now. I've heard good things about those, and not so good things about the other entries.

SPM II is really bad but I enjoyed it. The cheese factor actually drew me to it. I found myself laughing throughout the entire film. The killer has to be one of the most ridiculous killers I've ever seen.

I love the zit on Heidi Kozak.. that scene was priceless.

I ordered my copy of the first SPM today for $32. For all three, I ended up paying $95 but I don't really care.
I was going to buy a lot on Ebay of all three movies(discs only though) for $20. A pretty good deal but someone beat me to the punch.

I have a question that might sound silly cause it has probably alreay been answered, but I'm curious about it. I was wondering why didn't the actresses who played Valerie and Courtney Bates come back for part 2? It would go with the story since part 1 and 2 are a few years apart. I know that the actress who played Valerie (I could be wrong though) killed herself...but that was in the mid 90's, I think.

That's something I've wondered myself. Perhaps they just didn't want to associate themselves with roles like that...but who knows? If I were in a slasher movie & was a survivor, I'd love to return for the sequel. :D

Most likely low budget, I'm sure the actresses would probably ask for an increase in salary for the sequels and these movies were made super cheap.

Me too...no doubt about that.

Yeah, I was thinking that might be it...still, I'd have liked to see them back.

I would have liked it too, I was so sad when I heard about Robin Stille's suicide, the poor woman :( RIP Robin.

It would've been cool to see them return although I do love the fact the Crystal Bernard is in a slasher movie since I'm a huge fan of Wings. Seeing her getting attacked by a frozen chicken is hilarious.
It's a damn shame about Robin Stille. She was very beautiful. :(

I'm really not into girls, if you know what I mean, but she was the prettiest girl on part 1, IMO.

I agree about Robin Stille being the prettiest girl from the first SPM. Most of the others were lookers as well but Robin is prettier.

I watched SPM III a little bit ago. It was really cheesy but pretty shabby overall. I enjoyed it. The revealing of the killer would've been a nice twist if they didn't show who it was on the back of the DVD case.
The bathtub electrocution via plugged in vibrator had me in stiches. Hahaha!

I think they should've shown the killer in his creepy mask a little bit more than have a reveal closer to the end although the back of the DVD case & trailer would still spoil it. Bah.
I'm a nice guy. I bought my girlfriend a copy of Slumber Party Massacre II on VHS off Amazon. I guess I could've been nicer & bought her the DVD. Haha.

Haha yeah I am cheap. She has the first one on tape so I figured I'd help her get the other two as well. I'll probably buy her a copy of SPM III in the near future since she's never seen it.

Watched Sorority House Massacre a little bit ago. I'm going to throw my thoughts in this thread since the series are pretty similar & somewhat related.
Huge Halloween rip-off like many have stated before but still a nice little slasher movie. The killer isn't scary one bit. He reminds me of Peter Bark if he grew to normal size. Not overly gory either but at least we get to see some boobs.
Things to watch for: tee-pee massacre, magically reappearing & disappearing undies/shorts, a montage of the girls trying on clothes to really crappy music, a brick being thrown at the killer, & a guy that looks like Poindexter from Revenge of the Nerds.
Nothing too memorable but still a fun slasher for anyone that's into cheesy slasher films from the 1980s.
Robert Axelrod.

It really was a Halloween ripoff and almost identical in parts with The Offerings (another Halloween ripoff).

I thought Sorority House Massacre II was miles better than the first. A pretty fun movie from start to finish. All hail Orville Ketchum!

Nice SPM III avatar notte! I need to watch the first 2 again. It's been at least 3 years since I have. I remember one of my favorite kills in the first was the the power drill throat slit. I always loved that.

Haha, I wouldn't put Cheerleader Massacre and CHopping Mall in the same category. Chopping Mall was more of a serious movie, and really well done. Cheerleader Massacre was cheap, shot on video, and really low budget. The two were jsut directed by th same guy.

Cheerleader Massacre is a really bad movie but it's very entertaining. That's why I enjoyed it. It's basically a softcore porn with horror elements. IMDB states it was made for around $60,000 but we all know how accurate(or inaccurate IMDB can be).
I'd rather watch movies like Cheerleader Massacre than whatever wankery Rob Zombie comes out with. And PG-13 horror remakes.

$60,000 for a movie really isn't much. If I would have guessed I would have thought $35,000... but they did have some expensive looking locations they shot and of course Brinke Stevens.

Not I, I would never discount the merits of a horror movie based solely on it's rating and Cheerleader Massacre while having a few fun scenes was just torture. The new Prom Night ran circles around it in terms of story and plot.
And was I the only one who noticed while watching Cheerleader Massacre that the electricity worked in the kitchen of the cabin before they found the fuse box to turn on the electricity and after the killer cut off the electric the electric still worked in the kitchen and bathroom where the teacher was taking a shower lol I was like wtf.

Don't get me wrong I prefer movies like CLM, and really never get into mainstream stuff very much. I like the SOV genre, and even though the movies may not be very good at least they are labours of love and seem to be shot at least by people who care very deeply about the project. Mainstream stuff seems to be more or less shot to make profits first and foremost as the z-grade movie genre is more or less "this movie won't really make much money, so let's try and bust our ass as much as we can to at least make it entertaining".
