Sorry, guys, if this has been discussed many times already lol, but i have all the R2 movies on DVD and i am seriously considering importing the boxset. Is it worth the change?

Considering the specs on the R2 releases, and the specs of the box set discs, is there much difference? Is it an upgrade or a downgrade?

And are there any pictures of the set online anywhere? I have looked but had no joy :duh:

The region two individual discs are barebones without any extras, although you can get the Warner Bros. speciel edition of the original that is uncut/unrated and with a documentary. You are better off with the box set because you get the eight Paramount films plus a bonus disc of extras plus a couple commentary tracks. Don't get me wrong, the set could have been better, but it does have more then the single disc editions, because they have nothing.

Here are some pictures:

If you have a region free DVD player, than sure go get them. But if you don't, don't bother as they won't work for you.

If you have/get the Best Buy bonus disc, it is a 29 minute interview with most/all of the actors who portray Jason...Kane Hodder, Warrington Gillette, C.J. Graham, etc. I believe it was from a Fangoria convention. It's pretty cool to have....especially with it having cool disc art.....a JTM promo shot on it.

Thanks for your responses, guys!

I do have a multi-region player so that wouldn't be a problem. Am i right in thinking that the original movie R2 DVD is BETTER than the one in the boxset? Is the set version the cut version?

So then all the other movies are in EXACTLY the same state as the R2 versions?

Yes you are. The Warner Bros. Region 2 edition is uncut. :funky:

Yes it is. :bang:

He can watch them on his computer. All one has to do is download a patch for one's brand of DVD ROM that makes it region free.

I need this.

Go to Youtube and search for "Jason Forever." You can watch the whole disc (it's split up into four parts). It's not the same thing as actually owning it, but it beats attempting to pay the insane prices it goes for on Ebay.

Too bad they didn't interview Richard Brooker or Ted White.

Actually the website says it is region 3. It does not matter what region it is as long as you have a region free dvd player.

It's all true...

If you're a fan you should get the R2 of the Warner release, becuase the R3 doesn't have the commentary track. If you guys want one.... msg me.

When you say commentary do you mean return to crystal lake ?

Or a commentary for the film by who ? While the movie plays ?

Lammert

It has the Return to Crystal Lake doc. and running commentary with Sean Cunningham, writer Victor Miller, editor Bill Freda, Adrienne King and Betsy Palmer and Peter Bracke(who did the Crystal Lake book).

Edit Price incl. shipping would be about $20.

- Trailers

Speaking of which, the packaging has some false adverising on it. It claims (inside the Killer Extras case) to contain a featurette about the making of the trailers, including comments from legendary trailer voiceover guy Don LaFontaine, who did the first five Friday trailers. What happened to this?

I'd like to know just how interesting a feature on the making of trailers could be, honestly. What could possibly be said?

That said, the early films had some awesome fucking trailers. Then again, pretty much all 80s horror flicks had them.

Is the documentary on F13 R2 DVD included in the box set?

sCabbOy

No, the box set doesn't include that documentary, but another documentary to coincide with Part 1. A lot of the same things were discussed though.

What was cool about the doc that Warner put together is that it actually has interviews with Harry Manfredini (rare) and Victor Miller (ultra rare). Over all, the doc in the region 1 box set is better, but it is worth owning the region 2 edition to have the film in all it's uncensored glory. I own the box set, but I also own the region 2 unrate edition myself.

The Dream Master

Thing is, if you own both the standalone Paramount release and the box set, you have all the pieces for the unrated cut. Too bad they're split up between the two versions.

The Dream Master

There's a "commentary" on the Region 2 release of the first film that's really a bunch of audio interviews cobbled together, I think, along with a different documentary that we didn't get States-side.

I said doc, which is short for documentary, not commentary. :)

It is strange how the American releases went. The single disc edition has the uncut version of Annie's murder while the version in the box set has the uncut version of Mrs. Voorhees' murder.

the doc in the region 1 box set is better

I don't agree... The r2 docu is more interesting, longer and has more stuff then the Part1 chapter in the r1 boxset.

The boxset is FINALLY getting a R2 release....

I'm putting in a preorder for the R2 boxset - I don't have the DVDs anymore (Seriously, 10 DVDs for one series, a third of which are barely worth owning, take up far too much shelf space!) so this is ideal... I wonder if it will have documentaries and such?

DouglasJ

I assume this is finally getting a Region 2 release due to,

A) New Line now being a part of Warner Bros.
B) New Line and Paramount teaming up for the new movie.
C) The above resolving the fact that Warner Bros. owns the rights to Pt. 1 here.
