I couldn't find a Garbage Thread so thought I'd make one (I probably just didn't find it but oh well), and the name of their Best Of album seemed suitable to me. :p

Got the album for Christmas from my girlfriend and it's a great collection, with a B-Side, a Bond theme, a Re-mix and a new single all thrown in to make it that little more special! Plus I got the one with a bonus track full of re-mixes from other groups that I plan to listen to soon.

In fact.... right just put it on now! :D

A shame Adrogyny wasn't included but the fantastic Cherry Lips is there.

What i love about Garbage is how they re-invent themselves and do something new with each album.

The first is just unique, with brilliant songs, fast beats, an almost poetic tone to some of the lyrics and some truly haunting songs. It's stunning.

The follow up Version 2.0 I find to be more experimental, strange, almost industrial in some ways.

I never knew how to describe Beuatiful Garbage until I read the Absiolute Garbage notes that got it spot on. It's Twin Peaks, it's there happy-go-lucky up-beat on-the-surface album with a dark udner-side. It's Cherry Lips, all happy, upbeat, funky... about a child prostitute at a truck stop. It's a brilliant satrical and clever album with some stunning tracks.

And there latest Bleed Like Me is heavy, pumping and just amazing to rock out to. It's got their hands all over it, with some great tracks like Sex is Not the Enemy.

Ok, enough wittering from me I think. :p

Garbage - best band ever. nuff said.

Very good write up!

I'm ashamed that I still don't have the last two albums. Having borrowed them friends though, I can say that this statement...

What i love about Garbage is how they re-invent themselves and do something new with each album.

...sums it up perfect as they're always redefining their sound. Great lyrics, great sound, and great vocals. It can't get any better.

I've always had a soft spot for rock/guitar-driven pop acts with a female lead. I remember getting version 2.0 the day it came out here in the States and loving it. That album did get really, really popular here, but it took forever. It felt like I listened to that disc for a year before one of their singles exploded here (I think I'm Paranoid, maybe). By then, I had already moved onto Hole's "Celebrity Skin." Say what you will about Hole, but that is a great album. Even though my tastes have evolved a lot since then, that disc remains one of my all-time favorites. Now that I think about it, those two albums have a lot of similarities. 1998/1999 was a good year for the electronic pop/rock sound.

Indeed, i love the punk aesthetic of Version 2.0 although, with time, I actually think I might prefer Beautiful Garbage. Such a cynical album but always upbeat, it really is a brilliant asatire on pop music in many ways. Androgyny is one of my favourite songs ever.

My feelings exactly. Celebrity Skin is a great album!

I really hope Shirley's solo album comes out, read numerous places the company are unhappy with how "noir" it is which is ridiculous. Hope we get both the solo and a new album from Garbage soon...

Wow, she's got a solo album? About time! Of course, that and a new Garbage album would be great.

It was one of the things she wanted to do in the bands hiatus when they "broke up" in 2005. She worked with David Arnold on it as well as numerous others:

From Wiki:

"Manson has collaborated with a number of people on the project including fellow Scottish songwriter Paul Buchanan, US rock musicians Jack White, Billy Corgan [3] and Beck, [4] producer and keyboardist Greg Kurstin [5] and James Bond soundtrack composer David Arnold. [6] Garbage drummer and former Nirvana/Smashing Pumpkins producer Butch Vig is also co-writing and producing for her album. [7]

Manson's album has been delayed due to an "impasse" between herself and her record company over the direction of her music. Manson however is hopeful her record will see a release in 2008.[8]"

Should have been out by now annoyingly. :(

Still, Garbage hiatus seems to be ending sooner than anyone thought and severla articles suggest this year they'll begin work on a new album.

Give a dude some advice Garbage fans...

I was never into the band at all when they were "hot" (I was a No Doubt guy) but now thanks to ROCK BAND, I absolutely LOVE two of their songs. One is "I think I'm Paranoid" and the other is "Why do you love me?"

My question is, if I like these two songs, would I fancy the rest of their work? I mean, are they indicitive of their overall sound or are they just...I dont know the right word, abberations? Ugh, I'm probably not making any sense.

I don't think they have abberations. I mean one sond is form their second album, another from their fourth. And across albums they have slow, melancholy songs, loud rocky tunes, some pop-sounding songs, a real variety. Even one that seems somewhat "pop" liek Cheery Lips is actually full of a punkish energy. They have a lot of variety bt I would say those are good examples of their work. "Only Happy When It Rains" and "Sex is Not the Enemy" are two others that I think you'd definitly enjoy.
