Yeah, I just saw the commercial for this earlier. All of these parody movies coming out, what's going to be left for Scary Movie 5?

"Date Movie" was a bit bad, but tolerable. Mostly due to Alyson Hannigan. Didn't see "Epic Movie". While I like Carmen Electra, it's not enough to see this.

I saw the trailer for this tacked on to the beginning of The Mist. I'd forgotten about it until recently, but I admit -- I had a good laugh when Leonidas "This is SPARTA!!" kicked Britney into the pit.

These make enough money to justify more from the same team? Or are they just hoping they'll duplicate Scary Movie 1's success against all odds?

A bit of both. The problem is that they don't have the outrageousness of the Wayans or the finese of David Zucker, Pat Proft and Jim Abrahams. The folks who produce these films just toss shit out there and hope it works. Sometimes it does. Often times it just falls flat.

That does seem to be the case. I've not found much that they've done funny, which is a shame, because I think these kinds of films should be funny pretty much by default. I think seeing Britney kicked into the Pit of Death is probably the only time I've laughed during the trailer for one of these films.

Yeah, they should be funny. If they had someone like David Zucker or Jim Abrahams directing and writing, they'd work a whole lot better. These guys have made and perfected this type of comedy. Now having two of the writers from "Scary Movie" sounds like it should work. But really, those films had other writers covering their asses. And directors who knew their shit.

I personally find these movies to be just about everything that's wrong with movies nowadays. What is the point in making a movie that does nothing but deal with what's popular right now? It's cool to have shows like The Soup and Best Week Ever, those are just shows, they change every week. These are actual movies that people are making, capatilizing on whatever is popular for a bit of quick cash and they won't matter less than a month from now. Their subject matter will, but who will care about this movie? Seriously, I don't get it.

Whats up with the use of the word "cracker" in the tv spot? Double standard huh?

The point of these films is to make fun of pop culture. They trace back to "The Kentucky Fried Movie" which was originally "The Kentucky Fried Theatre", a comedy act by the creators of the film and later "Airplane". The gag was to make fun of movies and commercials. In the years following, everyone else has tried to copy that format. Yes, it's for a few cheap laughs and a quick buck. It's designed to have their say on life.
