Curious to hear how people felt about Nintendo's announcements at E3 a couple days ago. For the most part I'm happy about the WiiZapper and that interesting Wii exercise thing but all in all I didn't find it very exciting. I'm not sure if Nintendo just doesn't have that much to talk about or if they're just not saying anything as usual. I'm still waiting for the wireless nunchuck and I don't believe they have no plans for an external HD. I think I can fit a couple of VC games but I'm really low on space already and I don't like the idea of having to use SD cards for everything.

I'm thinking it's that they don't have much that they're willing to share. Bare in mind that a lot of the third party support is only now and within the last six months have been making games for the Wii. So there probably isn't as much to share.

I'm going for my first next-gen system this Christmas, and it is the Wii. I'm hoping to get the Wii and Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles from my folks. My best friend works at a Game Stop, and he's going to try and hold a Wii aside for me.
So I've got five months to learn about this system. Those who own it -- teach me. How does one go about purchasing old-school games? Once I've purchased them, do I have them forever? What happens when I run out of space on the hard drive? Do I have to delete a game and then pay to download it again?
What are the best games? I won't be getting The Twilight Princess because I own it for the Cube, but I'll probably be getting Resident Evil 4 at some point. And the new Mario game (the one out now). Is Manhunt 2 on the Wii worth a damn, or do I stick with the PS2 version?
Most importantly, am I making a good choice getting the Wii? It's the cheapest, so it's the only one I can hope to ask for, unless I'd rather have a DS or a PSP.

The Wii games I'd be focusing on are Super Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3, but that's just me.
If you fill up your space, you can delete games and re-download them for free later on. You just buy Wii points cards or use a credit card to order Virtual Console games, it's plain and simple. Much like ordering off the internet. Of course you need a wireless connection or a wi-fi adapter for this.
I think you're making a good choice if you actually want to play tennis when you're playing video game tennis. Or, bowl when you play video game bowling.

I also think you are making a good choice, as you have said, you wanted to do a little more exercise. You can also download Virtual Console games onto an SD card if you run out of room, but you can only play it on your Wii. I believe Manhunt 2 was pulled from all consoles, when it was given an AO rating, although I can be wrong.

What's going to happen with Manhunt 2? Are they going to tone it down and resubmit it? Apparently, Sony and Nintendo have a system set up that prohibits AO games from third party developers. :duh:
I'll probably get Mario Galaxy eventually, and I'm a huge Metroid fan, so Prime 3 is definitely on my must-have list. I'm trying to beat Prime 2 right now.
Question -- will Game Boy and Game Boy Advance games be made available on the Virtual Console at any point? I've got broadband internet and Wi Fi, so I should be good to go to use the VC.
ADDED:
According to IGN, Manhunt 2 is expected to release in October of this year (having been pushed back from July by the AO rating).

So far, nothing yet has been said about GBA or regular GB games for the VC. So don't hold your breath on that. Your best bet would be to get a 2001 GBA which plays old school GB games.
When you go for VC games, you need a classic controller to plug your Wiimote into.
The other day, for the first time, I've seen Wii in a Wal-Mart. So it looks like Nintendo is slowly catching up.

I own a GBA. The screen isn't in great shape, though. I'd rather play them on my TV, but finding a Game Boy Player for the Game Cube that doesn't cost upwards of $79.99 is practically impossible these days.
My Game Stop friend told me you can play Virtual Console games with your Game Cube controller, so I figure I'll just use that.

The thing is that despite their efforts to keep up production wise, people keep snatching the fuckers up. The Wii is selling faster than the Game Cube and I think even the N64. I could be wrong, but it's the first time Nintendo has had a top selling console in a long while.

Carnival Games- like Wii Sports, but with a carnival twist
MySims- Guilt pleasure. Shut the hell up, all of you. :)

Have you already played the Gamecube version? If so, is it worth the $30?
I purchased a Wii a few months back and came to the following conclusion:
Wii = fun.
Xbox 360 = not much fun.
PS3 = not much fun at a higher price.
Only in the last few days have I seen Wiis on the shelf. Although I really love playing Wii sports with friends and big groups, it's starting to get stale. Hopefully Wii fitness can take their games to the next level and/or they take more advantage of motion sensing. It's still an amazing system and the only one I like to play.
Can anyone tell me if the Wii is adaptable for lefties? I tried playing one in the store the other day and I seriously didn't like it because I had issues with it. I can usually do anything perfectly with either hand, but on the baseball game I was playing, it was almost impossible for me to play....

Wii sports is adaptable for lefties, I know, because when you first go into it, you can select what handed you are. I'll have to read a little for all of Wii.
~JS
Just Jeans
08-20-2007, 03:25 AM
The Legend of Zelda: The Twilight Princess isn't adaptable for lefties. Link is left handed normally, but Nintendo mirrored the entire game on the Wii so that Link becomes right handed (rather than just flipping the character model, which perplexes me). There's no option to make Link left handed again, which is why I refuse to buy the Wii version (I I throw with my left hand, and use a sword in my left hand as well).
Jason's Storm
08-20-2007, 04:48 AM
Well actually it doesn't matter if you are righty or lefty in LOZ, because all you do is swing and aim with the Wiimote.
~JS
Just Jeans
08-22-2007, 09:54 AM
It matters to me, because it's awkward swinging with my left hand while Link swings with his right. I don't like it. Thus my plans to continue playing the Game Cube version once I get a Wii.
Toejam
08-23-2007, 12:13 AM
In LOZ: Twilight Princess you swing both hands. The Nunchuk controls your spin attack, the Wii Remote controls your regular sword slashing. They should of just left him Left handed in the Wii version, the change doesn't have much of an effect on the swordplay, It really would only screw up the aiming(bow & arrow, Clawshot) but I think you would get used to it. Not one time while playing the game did I say (or think) to myself, "I'm sure glad they made Link right handed to match the controls."
I've used my right thumb to control a left handed Link's attacks for years.:duh:

Ocarina of Time is what took me out of The Legend of Zelda series for a number of years. It's high on my list of Most Overrated Games of All Time. :pull:
It's not that it's a bad game, it's just that it's a mediocre game. But I also thought Mario 64 was intensely mediocre. I guess I just never got into the N64 craze.

Interesting. I'd never heard anyone speak ill of Ocarina of Time until today, and it's happened twice. A guy I go to school with said the series peaked at Link to the Past (which happens to be my favorite too), and that Ocarina of Time wasn't nearly as good (which I disagree with--it's not my favorite, but it's definately a worthy sequel and is one of the best games ever).

Ocarina of Time is way overrated. Whenever I see top video game lists it is near the top, humbug I say.

I'm probaly just sick of people still saying it is the best Zelda game (or Nintendo game, ever), and always being at the top of "best of" lists.
I've never seen anyone speak this way of OOT.
Most people I know wouldn't speak a negative word about this game, like they are afraid that other gamers will look down on them for not praising it.
Whatever,

Just Jeans
08-24-2007, 06:26 AM
Why do you guys feel it's so over-rated?
I explained this on the previous forum, but I'll have a go at doing it again.
It's like there's some unspoken taboo against voicing any kind of dissenting thoughts toward Ocarina of Time, and it winds me up. It's hard to go anywhere on the internet without some foaming fan boy telling me how awesome the game is despite my indifference, and then calling me an ignorant prick because I prefer The Wind Waker and The Twilight Princess to Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. :meh:
In terms of the game itself, I think it's pretty boring. When it came out I liked it, but it hasn't aged well (I think Link's Awakening has more replay value). The graphics are ugly now and they were ugly then. Just because the game is 3D doesn't make it awesome; the textures are flat, dull, and rough. I prefer the aesthetics of just about any SNES game to those of Ocarina of Time.
The control scheme for Link isn't very intuitive. He doesn't respond particularly well to the joystick, and the lack of camera control can be a real pain in the ass (after playing Mario 64 with it's pseudo 360 degree camera control, I was gutted by Ocarina of Time's lack there of). The ability to snap the camera to Link's back is nice, but it's not perfect.
The game's story was basically a hodge podge of bits and pieces from all of the previous Zelda games, which ultimately made it rather boring. It felt familiar when it was brand new.
Over all, I don't think the 3D Zelda games really hit a high point until The Wind Waker. I like that Nintendo took a chance with the aesthetic approach to the series. I'd like to see Ocarina of Time remade on The Wind Waker engine. I think cell shading really becomes the franchise.
In terms of gameplay, I think The Twilight Princess has it just about as perfect as it can get. I reckon the next Zelda game will do new things with gameplay, being that it'll be designed for the Wii and not just a crumby port rushed into production to sell units, but in terms of the engine that was created for the 3D Zelda titles, The Twilight Princess is as close to perfect as the gameplay can get (it's only a shame that the story wasn't a bit stronger toward the end).
A Link to the Past is my favorite game in the series, closely followed by The Wind Waker and The Twilight Princess. I enjoy Ocarina of Time -- I have since it was released -- but in the end I feel it was just this side of mediocre.
Ultimately, I'd say it's the insane amount of hype the game got in the lead-up to release, coupled with the hardcore (read: psychotic) fan boys that really soured Ocarina of Time for me. I still play it from time to time -- I've got the Zelda 4-pack that came with the Game Cube a couple of Christmases back -- but every time I boot it up I feel the need to backhand a frothing fan boy.
The Dream Master
08-24-2007, 09:01 PM
I can understand those complaints. Like I said, it isn't my favorite Zelda game either (Link to the Past claims that spot for me), but I still like it a lot. The Zelda series is so awesome that I can see just about any of its entries making a legit claim as being one of the greatest games ever.

08-24-2007, 10:25 PM
OOT... although it's not in my top 10, it's probably the greatest video game I've ever played. If that doesn't make sense... personally, I find Uma Thurman to be an ugly broad, but I can understand why many find her a hottie. Just like OOT; she has all the right parts in all the right places. If you're talking overrated, don't forget Super Mario 64... I'd rather play RE4, Halo, Starcraft, etc.; but I can appreciate OOT for what it is: a masterpiece.
The ability to download classic Nintendo/Genesis/etc. games is a definite plus for the system. Where else can you play Zelda/Metroid/Mario games? However, I'd rather buy a collection of games rather than download them onto the Wii's hard drive.

For the same reason I'm not a fan of Halo -- it bores me, and I never thought it lived up to the hype. I enjoyed it fine when it was released, but it hasn't aged well at all. If I'm going to play a FPS, I'd rather be playing Alien vs. Predator II or Doom III. I've never been big on multi-player games (especially split-screen MPGs), so I suppose Goldeneye just didn't appeal to me in the way it did everyone else (yes Blake, I'm looking at you).

Jeans already knows it, but GoldenEye is, to me, the number one game ever. I suppose I'm fond of first-person shooters in general - I grew up on Duke Nukem, Quake, and the like - but GoldenEye was the pinnacle of gaming. My three best friends and I played GE every day after school, and even when alone I'd try to improve my tactics.
This was a game that had no push-button cheat codes while it was popular (they came out quite a bit later, IIRC) so you had to earn your cheats. When I'd finally beaten the game in 00 Agent difficulty and under the time limits, I had accomplished something, and was rewarded with the ability to edit the AI's performance.
Yes, we had a Game Genie, but cracking it that way just wasn't the same.
Getting 4 dudes battling each other with rockets in the Aztec level (we had a battle room in there - on the first floor where you can look up and see the hole in the ceiling) for hours on end was priceless.
Yeah, I'm a GoldenEye fanboy (and, to tell you the truth, I dislike all Zelda games, but OOC pissed me off more than any other with that fucking fairy always screaming at me to listen. Fuck you, fairy.) But very few games have been as special and re-playable to me. At this point, the list only includes GE64 and GTA:SA, with GTA:VC having honorable mention. Hell, my best friend and I still have our 64's with plenty of sticks just to play GE64 when he comes to visit.

For those of you who think Goldeneye, LOZ:OOT and SM64 are overrated, they may be today, but back then, they were the pinniacle. In fact all three games created from scratch a new way of gaming that many copy today. Doom may have been the first true FPS, but Goldeneye perfected it and essentually gave FPS's a model to work off of. Also if LOZ:OOT and SM64 were never created, many of the games you play today likely wouldn't be around or would likely be serverly altered. Both of them were a revolution to the game making industry.

For some people, maybe. Not for me. For me, the pinnacle would have been over on the PSX.
Ocarina of Time, Mario 64 and Goldeneye were certainly among the best games on the N64, and they certainly helped shape the face of 3D gaming, but even then I thought that not a single one of them lived up to the hype. For me, they they just weren't the beans on toast.
Also if LOZ:OOT and SM64 were never created, many of the games you play today likely wouldn't be around or would likely be serverly altered.
I find that pretty hard to believe. It's like saying that the wheel never would have come into existence had it not been created during Neolithic period. Eventually, someone would have come along and put the idea forward.
The games may not have featured Mario or Link, but with the hardware they were working on, it's pretty much a given that someone would have created a fully 3D game.

Jumping Jack Flash for the PS1 came out prior to Mario 64. It was fully 3D, and was simply amazing for its' time. Yet, it never gets mentioned. Super Mario Bros. was touted as the greatest videogame of all time by EGM (Issue #200), but there's no love for Pitfall. The Mario games may have taken their perspective genres up to the next level, but they were NOT the first of their kind. :meh:

Wii overtakes 360 in international sales (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6178666.html?om_act=convert&om_clk=newstop&tag=newstop;title;2)
---------------------
Tor Thorsen, GameSpot
... approximately 9 million Wiis were purchased across the globe as of July 31, just barely overtaking the 360's 8.9 million units sales during the same period. Both platforms were far ahead of the PlayStation 3, which sold only around an estimated 3.7 million units internationally.
If accurate, the Wii sales milestone is a watershed for Nintendo. Though it has consistently dominated the handheld market, the 9 million-unit figure would mark the first time since the Super Nintendo era that Nintendo can lay claim to the best-selling console of its generation.

Quality over quantity, and all that.
I'm getting the Wii before the 360 for multiple reasons (the price chief among them), but it's also because the Wii looks to have some genuinely fun, unique games on it or coming out soon. The PS3 and the 360 have more titles, but that also means they have more mediocre titles.

Nintendo hasn't had very good Third-Party support since the Super Nintendo.
That is one of the main reasons that they don't have near as many games.
That also leads to a lot less crap games being put out for their systems.
The PS1 and 2 had tons of crap games.

Yea they are releasing the lost levels. Which was also on the Super Mario antholgy for the SNES. Thanks for the heads up on the SD cards. I hope to get a Wii for Xmas. So many VC titles I am dying to play.... and Super Paper Mario looks to be the best game on it.

my right arm kills from playing tennis on my niece's Wii, just thought I'd inform you all:p
Can anyone tell me how compatible the Wii is with a left handed person? I am damn near perfectly ambidextrous (to the point where I have a legal disorder of having no feeling of a dominate hand) but two of my best friends are left handed and I was wondering how hard this would be to play? I can only imagine how awkward a baseball game would feel with the batters being on the opposite side of the screen and whatnot....

Well, it's really no big deal, especially in games like baseball. At least in Wii Sports (haven't played any other sports Wii games), you can change your settings to a left handed person. I would assume it's like that in all games as that's a very basic setting.
I can't really think of any game that a lefty would have trouble with. I can think of instances where I switch hands playing minigames when one arm would get tired and I'd still do about as good as I would normally, and I never use my left hand.

I think only Legend Of Zelda might be a problem, since they made Link right handed for the Wiimote. But the sports games won't be a problem. Especially boxing.
Joe Strummer
01-04-2008, 02:24 AM
Zelda wouldn't be a problem since the sword swinging is not 1:1. It just uses shakes instead of a button press so left handers should not have any problem with this game at all.
Anyways, I love the wii, but I am thinking of selling it off. It looks absolutely horrid on my new HDTV. My CRT that it replaced looks a hell of a lot better. The games are blur fests now with jaggies to high heaven. I am running 480p with 16:9 on component cables. Looks disgusting. Playable, but it gives me a headache. shame since Mario Galaxy is one of teh best games I ever played and the image quality is worse than N64 on a CRT.

If it was so easy to use the opposite hand from the one Link uses on-screen, Nintendo wouldn't have bothered mirroring the entire game simply to make Link right handed. :duh:

That is what is so annoying about the game being mirrored, it is so easy.
As I have stated before;
In LOZ: Twilight Princess you swing both hands.
Having played both versions I can honestly say that is annoying for the directions to be switched between versions.
The Wii controls add a lot a of fun to the game, if you can put up with a right handed Link, making it the better version.
Nintendo overthought the whole mirroring the Wii version, with minimal tweaks to the aiming it wouldn't matter if Link was right or left handed.

To be honest, I don't get why Nintendo didn't just put a little more time into the Wii version and offer both right and left handed versions of Link.

Well the game was obviously rushed -- the Game Cube version was in development for over a year before the Wii version was announced, and the Wii version came out first.

01-15-2008, 08:10 PM
Well, they needed a big name to go with the Wii which is why they rushed it. Zelda is a big name, afterall.
Joe Strummer
01-15-2008, 11:30 PM
They didn't rush the game, they delayed it to get the Wii version out.
Anyways, I played the gamecube version first then I got the Wii version. They are exactly the same game, only Wii is flipped with different controls. For someone who only played the Wii version, the world flip won't mean anything to them. I was used to the way the world was set up in the gamecube version so the Wii version really screwed with me direction wise. If I Played the Wii version only, it would not have been a problem.
The left hand stuff doesn't mean anything cos the Wiimote and nunchuck have a neutral shape so both lefties and righties can use it and since the controls are not 1:1, there shouldn't be any complaining. It's as ridiculous as a right hander complaining that link is a lefty in the gamecube version. If the controls were 1:1, then I could see why people complain.

So I think I am going to get a Wii. I was going to buy a PS3, but my gf will actually play Wii, so it will work out better.
Any advice on good deals, like bundle packages? What all will I need to get....an extra controller I guess....any other accessories?
My sister and brother-in-law got the wii with the sports bundle, tennis, bowling, baseball, golf, etc., and they bought the Olympic games separately.
I have only played those so far but they are a blast.
Jason's Storm
01-19-2008, 09:16 PM
One big thing is, good luck finding it in B&M stores. If a bundle has the games and accessories you really want, and you can afford it, I say go for it. If you don't see what you like, and you have the option to buy the bare bones (Wii system, Wiimote, nunchuck, WiiSports, etc, is what I call barebones), I would say go for that. Wiiplay is a good thing to pick up, as it has a Wiimote and game. Also you will likely need another nunchuck as well.
In other news, Nyko is going to come out with a wireless nunchuck for the Wii. Nintendo has talked about it, but nothing has come out as of yet. This means no wire to get tangled with, but it does require batteries too. Another thing I was wondering about it too, is how do you put on the wrist strap. Don't need two things to fly now.

Can't believe this thing is still sold out. Since it launched, I have never ever seen one in stores at all. I only saw a few display boxes when I was hunting them.
anyways, I only got mine cos I camped toysRus online in 2006 before x-mas. I felt like I won the lottery, but then they cancelled my order cos they didn't have any stock and it was a website error. Eventually a bunch of us who ordered, put in a complaint to the BBB and TRU quickly allocated units for us a week or 2 later. I'm in Canada and the damn thing shipped to me from the lower states. Not only that, I had to pay the UPS guy 45 bucks, but TRU took it off my total eventually.
It wasn't worth all that trouble. I play my 360 more...waaaay too much casual trash on Wii and less of the games most of us Nintendo fans bought the thing for. Where is Pikmin? Where is Starfox? Where is F-zero? and not to mention it looks like shit on HDTV's. At least it has Mario Galaxy, but that's not enough.
Hopefully Ninty takes the massive money they're making off DS and Wii and make a super Wii with at least 720p support. 480p is inexcusable in this day and age.

If your Circuit city ad has a picture of the wii in it, then that means they will have a wii sunday morning at 8:30. B, I'm sorry I'm so late posting this information but thats what my friend the CC employee told me.
For those shopping online for a wii, beware of this scam. I was helping a coworker look for one and we saw this deal:
1 wii
2 wii-motes
2 knunchucks
TEN GAMES
and if bidding goes over 500 dollars a free game (Mario Galaxy as I recall)!!!!
Bidding was at 450 with 45 min left. I told the coworker "Wow this is a great deal!" but she still was iffy because she had more pressing matters at hand like "babies have to eat" and stuff. So I told her that she should wait and set a little aside at a time and when its time I'll help her as far as the hunting side goes.
I saved the auction just to see how high it went in the next 3/4 of an hour. While I was refreshing, I decided to take a closer gander at the picture of "you get all this!!!!"
Well, the TEN games were Wii sports and Wii play. Yeah the jackass counted the individual games on the 2 discs as TEN GAMES OMG WTF DEALZ!!!!

UH.... You can buy points at the Wii Shopping channel with a credit card.
I think the only way to get points is to buy them.
I wish you could earn points somehow, like maybe 50 or 100 points for completing games.
Jigsaw

Thanks for the answer. I wish points you earn from the games would count to your points you could buy on the Wii network, it'd make earning high scores worthwhile for once. Kind of sucks you can't earn points that way :meh: Still, the VC is a neat feature and one I hope other game companies follow at some point. You basically have multiple consoles on your system with the VC and can save yourself a considerable amount of money.

Also, how much memory does the wii have? I was looking at downloading some of the classic NES games on the shopping network. About how many of those can I hold?
You can hold up to 40 Channels (I think.) And you can find your Wii # by going to the envelope icon on the bottom right of your main menu, then you should see something that says "address book" or something like that, it should be there. (Although I'm not at my Wii at the moment, so I'm not 100% on the directions, but I think I'm pretty close.)
Your serial # is on the Wii itself. Look for a little sticker near the back.

DDR runs about $70, and Dancing with the Stars is about $45-$50.

Still can't find one. I work at a place that sells them... We sold out of four...FOUR easter basket bundles in 20 minutes...
Nintendo's shareholders are also getting antsy about their "Shortages" that they are producing. They could easily bump up production and they are not... It's a load of crap personally. I came across one..once but didn't have the money at the time.
Nintendo knows demand is still high for it so they know what people are willing to pay...

I really honestly don't know why they're so hard to get still? It's been almost two year and still impossible to find one? Like mentioned above, I to think Nintendo is doing this on purpose to make it look like it's still the hot item/console by producing so little so that way they sell out right away making people think that they're that popular. No one I know even has one. Maybe someone at work but don't talk to them about what they own. Still though, there should be no excuse you just can't go into a store and be able to pick one up. Hell, the way it's selling or supposedly selling you'd think they'd have more consoles sold then the 360. It's not even a true Next/Current Gen system, so it can't be that hard to manufacture?
Seems like everything Nintendo is hard to find/get now these days even used Gamecubes. I was in Gamestop today to buy Dark Sector but it got delayed a day and a guy came in to buy a GC that he said he called them when they opened and they said they had one and when he came which was about 2pm they told him they sold it maybe a little after he called. Then they tried calling other stores and they to said they had none in stock. Then you look at the DS and those are hard to find as well. Hell to be honest, I don't even think it has that many QUALITY games and people are eating it up. Yes, there are some good games out there but it's like maybe a handfull while all/most of the other games are just being released for the gimmicky of the Wii, and companies just trying to pump out as many as they can.
I am though surprised how Nintendo has rised up from what looked like the end of them after the Gamecube and just looked like they weren't going to be able to keep up with the 360 or PS3 just because it's not even HD and of course all the kiddie/casual games. Also surprised how the DS has done considering it doesn't have the "Gameboy" name on it, but that to just has a bunch of no good gimmicky games one it. I was going to buy one but then I looked at all the games and there's really not one that I would want for it maybe besides the "new super mario bro's" game. Other then that, I couldn't see to get one because the graphics on that are not even that good, especially compared to the PSP.
Just with all the shoratges and the times that I could have bought one or when I come across one, I still kind of kick myself for not getting one just to at least sell it and get profit back. Which I kind of think is what alot of people are possibly doing as well? I bet if we lived in a world with no "scalpers" and no eBay or anything like that where people can buy something and just sell it at a higher price, there would be enough out there everywhere that anyone who really truly wanted one and was going to actually use it wether its for themselves or a gift for someone. Maybe there still might be a shortage but it would be nothing like it is now.
Till there's something that I must get then I don't plan on one anytime soon. If I were it would be more then likely something for my kids and I may play it like a few times or less a month. It could also be that a lot of adults my age (28) have kids now that are the right age to start gaming and since alot of those people still don't have an HDTV just yet and they rather pay for something cheap to give to their kids then investing on something alot more expensive.
Even the 360's have been faced with shortages? We're supposed to be on the start of a ressesion but people are having enough money to invest in game consoles?

In the past two weeks I've seen three stores with them, although only one actually had them on the shelf (others were in peoples hands on the way to the checkout). It's the first time since last May I've actually seen one at retail. Canadians who are still searching: Shopper's Drug Mart (newer stores, or ones with electronics section)! I know they have had stock at least twice at the one near me since the end of January. My sis, friend, and I were at Best Buy in my town on Sunday around 2pm. We joked about wiis and all going in the store. Well I went straight to the games to buy them for my wii. My friend was just browsing around when he and my sis disappear. I finally cross the back display for the eight time when I notice the wii display box has a security tag on it. I pick it up and am surprised to find it is weighted. They actually had a wii on a sunday well into the afternoon!
I grabbed it and started yelling for my friend. Couldn't find him. I ask my sister "where the hell is his lanky ass? Normally I can see his head poking over the aisles!" Next thing I know he's running from the bathroom area buckling his belt "dude what's wrong?" and he sees what is in my hands and his jaw drops.
Now, he's going through some legal woes due to his ex suing him. So money is tight and he said he wasn't spending money. Of course this was because we just assumed there would be no wiis available. He grabbed it from me and beelined for the front of the store.
He of course wanted to kill me when I said "dude I am pretty sure its just a display box."
Needless to say, he's the proud owner of a wii and when he gets a day off he's going to give me his wii #.

My problem is that I enjoyed the Wii sports pack-in, but nothing new really seems that exciting (though I hear the new Mario Galaxy & Smash Bros. are both a blast to play).
Has the Wii fitness thingy been released? I heard they (nintendo) were making a platform that you could use to stand or jump on, and that it would weigh you & measure your body fat.
Finally, is it that hard to get a Wii still??? I'm looking at the posts and have been talking to people who can't find them for sale. They're STILL selling out even after all this time? Wow. That says a lot.

I give it a week before management shuts us down. :D

With the Wii Fit just coming out, I expect another demand increase for the console. The game takes the physics & gameplay of Wii Sports to a another level. I'm glad Nintendo went the route they did, sacrificing power in favor of interaction. It has paid off for them and for people who are burned out by traditional videogaming (namely... me).

As of yesterday, I am now a proud owner of the Wii. Right now I only have the Wii Play, and I just bought Super Mario Galaxy today. I wanted to get Mario Kart Wii, but I can't find it at any stores. It seems to sell out pretty quick.
Congratulations! Where did you get your Wii? Super Mario Galaxy is a great game. I think Mario Kart Wii will be the next game I pick up too.
ADDED:
I saw an article yesterday that said the demand for Wii Fit will keep the demand for Wii's high. Very smart Nintendo, very smart.

I found it at a Super Target about 25 minutes from me. They only had about 4 of them, so we went at the right time!
I actually haven't tried Super Mario Galaxy yet.....we've been playing the Wii Sports alot. I'm doing really good at bowling so far. The baseball game makes me tired, lol.
My next games will be Mario Kart Wii, Top Spin 3, and Resident Evil 4.....even though I have it for the Gamecube.

Absolutely. I LOVE the wii fit. It is simply amazing. I bought mine the day it came out, and it hasn't been available since (wish I'd have bought an extra one).
Yeah, it's not a game and it's not the end all, be all fitness center. However, it's fun; if you're consistent with it, you can definitely get in better shape and tone your core muscles.
For anybody that owns a wii, I strongly recommend it. I've never played anything with the level of interactivity this game and wii board gives you. My only gripes about it is that its' sense of balance is a little off, it's a little too narrow (doing push-ups is a pain in the ass; it's not wide enough), and it's very erratic when it comes to measuring your weight. I weighed myself four times in 10 minutes, and my weight was anywhere from 206-213.
However, it will introduce you to yoga (about 15 different exercises) and make you stronger through its strength training portion. The run and the step test really make it shine (I put my wii board on top of a milk crate during the step test); you will sweat your ass off. Finally, the balance games are simply fun (heading out soccer balls as a goalie, downhill skiing, ski jumps, etc.).
Simply put, the wii fit, IMO, is the biggest technological innovation in the history of console videogames. You have to try it out.

I'd definitely like to try out the Wii Fit, but I haven't seen it anywhere yet.
I played Super Mario Galaxy today, and it is FUN! I absolutely love it. IMO, it's easily better than Super Mario 64. The different galaxies look great, and the soundtrack is nice too.

I thought about getting it. I probably will when paid. I am still looking for Mario Kart Wii but not with much luck

I can't find Mario Kart Wii either! Everywhere is sold out. It's almost hard to find in stores as the Wii itself, lol.
I played some more Mario Galaxy today, and it just keeps getting better. It's easily in my top 3 favorites for Mario games......possibly of all time.
I heard of a game called Endless Ocean. From what I gather, you basically explore the ocean, right? Is it more of rental type game, or is it worth buying? It seems like it'd be kind of interesting.

I just came from Target and they had a couple of Wii Fits there. I'm sure they won't last long. I was kind of surprised to see it.

They're probably gone already, lol.
I'm surprised they haven't released a Starfox game for the Wii yet. I absolutely loved Starfox 64. I know they released one for the GC....I believe it was called Starfox Assault? Did that one not do good, so they aren't going to make another one?

I just watched the Nintendo press conference at E3 online. I saw a demonstration of Wii Music. It doesn't look like there's much in store for Nintendo Wii. I was hoping they would announce the new Kid Icarus game.

I would say, if you see a Wiifit, you should buy it. They are going for over $100 on ebay. Retail was $89 right?

Yes. And I talked to the Target employee today and he said they were put out by mistake. They were supposed to hold them until Sunday. I wonder if they had to end up selling them anyway. I'm sure somebody got their ass chewed over that.
ADDED:
It's Sunday morning and I just got back from Target. There was a line to get Wii Fit. Just about everybody I saw was walking away with a Wii Fit AND a Wii Console. I was just there for Mario Kart.

This is an opinion so that should be considered but
I love Endless Ocean myself. I personally bought it and do not regret buying it at all. However many people find it rather dull and uninteresting as you go around petting fish. I love how it is set up (though could do with better music). I'd say rent it and see for yourself before you consider buying it.
On the Wii/Mario Kart thing, this is an issue I've got with Nintendo in that they seem to hold back with their items lately to build a demand for it but it will bite them in the ass

Yeah, i'll probably rent it first. It looks interesting, but if I don't end up liking it, it'd be a waste.
I got Mario Kart Wii at Target. It also came with a $5 gift card. This one is really good, and well worth it. It has 12 new tracks, and 12 older ones from the previous games. The new Rainbow Road kicks ass! :D I don't know if they'll still have it, but definitely check at Target when you get a chance.

The Virtual Console is where you can download all of Nintendo's first party software to the Wii. As well as Sega's and Turbo Graffix-16. What you do is purchase a VC card for 2,000 points which costs you in the US, $20.00. You can then go to Wii Shop Virtual Console and use the card to download a game to play. The games are stored on the Wii's flash drive memory and you can play them for as long as you want and you do not have to pay to continue to use it. You can store up to 512 MB worth of games. The ability to download the games is already in your Wii. You just need to make sure that the Wii has Wi-Fi capability to connect to the internet so that you can download the games from the Wii Shop.

That will explain it better than I can.

It seems like Wii's are plentiful these days. I was in Target last night just before they closed and they had several in the display case. It looks like Nintendo has stepped up the production, finally. Hopefully there will be a lot of happy people come Christmas.
So now, Nintendo needs to make better games! They've been in a slump lately with quality games produced, IMO.
I haven't even played my Wii since we moved back in August... :( We need to pull it out and start playing it again.

I still cannot believe how hard it is to get a Wii still. I would have thought surely by now they would be readily available everywhere and wouldnt be hard to find. I don't even think the PS2 was this hard to get for this long of a time.
It boggles me even more because there's really no good games on it. Well good "epic/hardcore" type games. I wouldn't even consider it a "next-gen" system just because of the graphics on it. Also I thought the Wii was bad for the industry only because they are getting the crappiest games made left and right for it, basically just companies trying to just throw out anything to take advantage of the controls of the Wii. Sure there's probably like 1 good game for like every 100 bad cheap games. I'm just glad Xbox hasnt gotten to much of the crap that has come out for the Wii...
But still can't believe they are still hard to find after all this time. Just amazing TBH, don't think any game system was like this ever.

I saw a bunch of Wii's for sale just before Thanksgiving. Now that Christmas shopping is in full force, it's hard to find them. I think next year will be better for the Wii as far as games are concerned. They're working on a Zelda and Mario Galaxy sequel as well as a new Kid Icarus game.

They're getting pretty easy to find around my area now. The economy must be hurting sales, but that's a very minor issue because they are still selling. I'm glad I waited, I almost paid $300 for one around Christmas.

The Wii is amazing, so much fun. The best thing is how it works to bring people together, gamers and non-gamers, and it's great in groups. Been playing The Umbrella Chronicles which is a brilliant on-rails shooter and Sonic & the Secret Rings is awesome. Sure, there's a lot of party games aimed at general audiences but also many other brilliant games that aren't all running around lasting aliens.

Finally got one :D
Picked up the wii sport bundle... and wii play for extra controller, and super paper mario. My only gripe with the system no ethernet port for us people that like wired connections... I got my friends belken USB adapter and it couldn't find a connection...
I haven't a clue as to what my security password is for wifi since the house is..."flaky" when it comes to signals. I saw nyko usb adapters on amazon for 16 bucks...but wouldn't any USB connector work or am I missing something when connecting something that should be as easy as cake. I.e. plug n play 360 or ps3.

Yea, don't upgrade to the newest version of the Wii software. In an effort to get rid of pirated software and modified systems, they had this update. Apparently it is fucking up new systems right out of the box, so Nintendo has a phone number you can call to get your system fixed. Sony and Microsoft should take note of what they should do, when they fuck something up.
