Tommy Jarvis, looking like a young Billy Corgan, PLUS Crispin Glover? The Final Chapter is heah!

One of my fav in the series! i just loved jason look at the end! this was the first ever friday the 13th movie i ever seen and jason scared the shit out of me. also Rob's death in the movie still gets me laughing! LMFAO!
Also I did not like that Sara got killed because she was very nice but she had sex in the shower and we all know that is a no no in Jason's world but i still wish she live though!
I still remember the first time I ever saw this movie. I rented it from Blockuster. This was my second Friday the 13th rental as the original was my first. This was such an intense movie and the last great classic in the series. The next three are more like honorable mentions and the ones after they are just dumb fun entertainment.

My second favorite F13 movie. Jason's never been scarier nor more brutal than here.

There's a lot of great in this movie, but unfortunately I never can get over the Party House and Party Teens. I think they really made the movie drag and weren't there for anything but to fill 30 minutes of airtime and add to the body count.
It would have been such a better movie if it was JUST the Jarvis house.
Jigsaw
07-13-2007, 10:44 PM
I never cared for the teens either except for Paul and Samantha. But at least the teens were entertaining and funny.
sCabbOy
07-13-2007, 10:52 PM
They were entertaining to a point, but when it went from the Jarvis house to the Teen house it was like 2 different movies.

I agree, but I think it was just to throw the audience off-guard when Jason arrived again.

I really liked what they did with Jason's fingernails in this one..... :)
Jigsaw
07-13-2007, 11:37 PM
Me too. I always thought his black and chipped fingernails looked cool.
I've said it all in regards to this film, and I'll say it again briefly here:
Best Friday film ever!
Scariest Jason ever!
For the first and last reels of the film, Manfredini is in top form!
Best atmosphere in a Friday film.
I would say it has the best cast since the first Friday.
Savini and co bring the raw meat back to the series.
All of this is IMHO, of course.

I could never decide if I prefer this over part 5 (which ever one I do prefer would be my favourite FT13 movie), it's funny, I watch this and say I like it so much more than part 5...than I watch part 5 and say I like it much more than this, it's finally at the point where I just give up trying and I just determined that they are both my favourite FT13
(yes I posted this exact reply in the New Beginning thread)

I really like TFC. But one thing I always disliked were the teens/Party house. For the most part, I didn't really care for any of them, besides Jimbo. It really made the movie seem to drag a bit.
Jason was, IMO, at his most brutal in TFC. I also consider this one to be the darkest of the series.

The part where Trish is whacking at Jason's hand/wrist when he grabs her from beneath the stairs....that part, for some reason, it still kinda makes me cringe. I guess it's me thinking of the machete continuously hitting his bones in his hand and wrist. I dunno why this scene would be anymore gross than the machete to the head, but it is.
CanadianFonzie
07-14-2007, 04:13 PM
the actress that played Trish was pretty cute, I saw her in the movie Massacre and Central High, and she was gorgeous in that movie, not to mention her nude scene in it

She was really young in Massacre At Central High, probably 20-ish, but really cute in that movie indeed.

yah she was young, it was one of those moments where I knew I saw her somewhere, and I came up with the possibility that she was Trish in part 4, and I said naw that's crazy...than I found out that WAS her and I was dumbfounded, lol, she actually looked better in Massacre and Central High...and not only cause you see...more of her, lol

A great flow to this movie. The opening scenes with the crime scene investigation team and ambulance staff at Higgin's Haven were some of the best from the entire series. One of the scariest moments for me was after the cops and ambulances leave for the hospital there are a few moments where we stay with the house/barn in total darkness.
Rob is my favorite character of the whole series. Teddy and Jimbo have the best banter.

I totally agree. I've always loved that moment of slience after everyone leaves, and then... BAM!... we're suddenly in the stark-white environment of the hospital.
I still think the two most atmospheric moments in the film are:
1. Sara is walking back to get the car by herself in the woods. The woods turn very scary very fast. The music is just right and it is a very frightening scene.
2. Tommy and Trish are driving their car which dies out on the road, and "someone" is watching them from the top of a hill.

I don't care what Fangoria says. I highy doubt Kimberly Beck wanted to fuck Zito's fat ass over a scene. Zito has been proven to be a liar, and if that rumor is out there I'm sure he started it.
Kim beck has been quoted to saying she was embarrassed that she had to show her panties in the fall from the window. The stunt woman's shirt came up exposing them, therefore for continuity reasons she had to as well. So she doesn't seem to be an actress that would have sex with a sleazy director.
I'm sure someone will ask her about this. I'd love to see what she says about it. But, at this point if it was in Fangoria I'll say either they lied, misquoted or the source lied.

I stopped buying every issue years ago and decided to just get the issues with articles I cared about. The last one I got for a long time was 5 years ago when Halloween: Resurrection came out. Then, a few days ago, I got the new issue with Zombie's Halloween on the cover, and I nearly passed out when I saw the cover price. $9.00! Yikes....
Issue 212 with the F13 retrospective is very good. The article on the original film is several pages long and is definitely worth the price.

I only own the Fangorias that cover Jason-related stuff. I think I have most of them, besides the ones from a few years back about FvsJ.
I have the anniversary edition of Fango that came out like a year or so ago where they give you the best horror movie that came out every year for the past 25 years. They said Friday the 13th was the best hororr movie of 1980. Dawn of the Dead got the award for 1979. Evil Dead got the 1983 award. I think Elm Street got the 1984 one, but I forget to be honest.

You can get year subscriptions on eBay for 19.99. That's pretty cheap. Don't they ask something like 29.99 or 39.99?
Yeah, it's either 30 or 40 bucks per year, which is a rip off, when you can go to Fango.com and get updated horror news every day for free (or for whatever you pay for your internet service).
With the net, it just isn't worth subscribing to magazines anymore.
Another thing about mags is that many of them have piss poor customer service. I have subscribed to a couple mags that ripped me off. They took my money and didn't send me a single issue. I contacted them and I had the bank statement of the check being deposited or at least the money coming out of my account and they called me a liar. I said screw it, and you can't take someone to court over $30, so I'll just tell everyone I know about my experiences. It was PC Gamer magazine. They screwed me over and then called me a liar despite me still having the old bank statment of the money coming out of my account. I guess that is another reason why there i absolutely no reason to get mags anymore. Why bother with that kind of bull shit when you can just come online and get all the info you need?

In Fangoria's defense, it's very expensive to print a magazine on that glossy stock. Look ar Rue Morgue- not only shiny but heavy stock.

Well, I think Gordon jumping out the window was supposed to imply that he had seen Jason and sensed evil(which supposedly animals are very good at), and he jumped out the window. I've always wondered what happened to Gordon. Maybe he's living out in the woods with Paul.
If you ask Wheatjedi, he would probably say that Muffin ate Gordon and Paul.

Haha, yeah probably. I think we really know what happened to Muffin though. I'm pretty sure that Muffin was the dog that Jeff and Sandra found. But who knows, maybe Muffin faked her death and her and Gordon have been making babies in the woods together ever since.
Wheatjedi
07-22-2007, 06:56 PM
If you ask Wheatjedi, he would probably say that Muffin ate Gordon and Paul.
Muffin just ate Paul. Actually, it was just Paul's head, but still... Paul.
Muffin didn't eat Gordon. Muffin was Gordon's girlfriend to whom Tommy referred in The Final Chapter ("Where you been Gordon? Do you have a girlfriend or something?") The relationship didn't last, however, when Muffin learned that Gordon ran from Jason like a little wuss.
ADDED:
maybe Muffin faked her death and her and Gordon have been making babies in the woods together ever since.
Muffin definitely faked her death. She and Jason knew that they had to make the others think she was dead to make her re-appearance that much more of a surprise. By drawing the survivor's attention toward her, Jason was able to attack Ginny through the window with no problems.

But then again, Muffin was a princess and Gordon may have just been to humble for her.
Wheatjedi
07-22-2007, 07:13 PM
Could be. Muffin was also very upset at Gordon's owner for killing Jason. She was actually very sad for several weeks and visited Jason's grave at Eternal Peace Cemetary quite often.
She was looking through the fence when Jason was brought back to life by that lightning bolt and was overjoyed at the return of her friend. She caught up with him the next day after he killed those 5 paintballers and the two of them talked for hours. BTW... Muffin was actually the one who tore Roy's arm and leg off after Jason hacked him a few times with that machete.

Muffin is currently unavailable for comment, but, speaking on her behalf, I can say that she still has warm feelings for Gordon. She is a little irritated at Terri for putting her second favorite ribbons in her hair when she specifically asked for the Smurf ribbons, but that's water under the bridge.
It has been a while since she made her last kill though, and she was looking at me kinda funny earlier.....

Here's a question...
Who owns the party house beside the Jarvis residence? Unless I missed a quick line about the owner, I'm clueless. I wonder if it was along the lines of The New Blood where it's an uncle's cabin... or maybe they rented it from a friend of a friend.
And to conclude, you'd think the renter would take all of his vintage black & white porn movies with him before vacating the house.
Wheatjedi
07-26-2007, 12:58 AM
I figure they rented it from someone who just wasn't identified. Remember... they didn't seem to know where they were going when they were driving there in the beginning.
And yeah.... it does seem a little odd to leave that stuff in a house you're renting out to people.
ADDED:
Muffin is such a diva. She was probably demanding too much money.
Well.... Muffin can be demanding at times. She requires her own trailer, a complete library of Lassie and Benji films, and a new box of Milk Bones every day. And ribbons for her hair. Lots of ribbons.

It's one thing to be jerkin' it while alone. But with everyone else in the room, not so much. By the time he was alone, he either was too blitzed to try or was going to when he stood up to mess around with the screen, right before Jason cut the film. Or the film snapped on it's own. Depending on what you believe.
We all saw the porn for ourselves. It was nothing special by any means.

If someone has mentioned this already, my bad, but I didn't know that Joseph Zito asked Adrienne King to be in the Final Chapter. To what extent, she didn't say. I just now read that in my Fangoria #83.
How could she be in Final Chapter? The only way I can see that is as a ghost. She was killed in the opening scene in Friday the 13th Part 2.

Obviously Zito missed the part where we see Alice's body in the shack, lying in plain view. Though, most people did miss it. I did for a long time. As to the film, it's not hardcore sex. But it's very soft, softcore. It's kinda like the Playboy videos when a new Playmate is unveiled.

I'd imagine several directors couldn't care less about what came before when doing a sequel in a horror franchise, be it Friday the 13th, Halloween or whatever. Some obviously care, but most probably just see it as a stepping stone in their careers. It's a shame, really.

I feel that Part 3 was the same. We don't know it's really Jason until the end. Obviously the trailer said it was Jason and we knew it was by 4...

Yea. If only they would have kept him there. From Jason Lives and all others afterwards, they showed too much of him...with exception of JGTH.
The first 5 films were the best with keeping the killer at bay until necessary and in doing so, it was more effective.
Yea. If only they would have kept him there. From Jason Lives and all others afterwards, they showed too much of him
I agree 100%. In the early films they were marketing the story and the suspense, and Jason a little. In the later films they were marketing Jason. You can definitely see the difference between Friday the 13th - The Final Chapter and Jason Lives. Jason was over exposed and over exploited in the films that followed A New Beginning. I think part of the reason they did that was to show off the fancy zombie make-up, especially in Part 7. If I were an fx guy I would be disappointed if my hard work did not end upi on screen, so I can kind of see both sides of this one. Especially if they are going to censor the gore as much as they did, at least give us a cool looking Jason to look at, I guess.

I agree 100% and even in Jason Lives his exposure is way too much.
Although he wasn't as scary as he was in movies like Friday the 13th Part 2 or The Final Chapter, I think in The New Blood he was kind of scary. The scene that comes to mind is when he kills Michael's girlfriend and then stalks him through the woods. I love how the lighting only showed half of his mask in some parts, and the music really made that scene. Another great one was when he stalked the camper dude and put his hand through him and took the machete. The stalking part of it was scary. Also David being stalked and then murdered was pretty frightening too, which is another scene really given it's power by the music. I loved the way Kane was moving in that scene though with the knife in his hand. I feel the same way about The New Blood as I do with Jason Lives and A New Beginning for the most part. They were not as scary, but they certainly had their moments.
Lammert
07-30-2007, 09:47 PM
What made those 'stalking scenes' bad was the silly TUMB TUMB music. They overused that sound in Part 7. Same goes for the credit music at the beginning. Whats up with that? Repeating the same sound for 3minutes.

I give JGTH and FvsJ credit for giving us moments like in the early films. The opening to JGTH felt like it was old school, minus the orchrestra (sp). You don't see Jason right off until he finally steps out into the light and attacks Agent Marcus. FvsJ did the same thing for the first half of the film. We'd only see Jason when he was about to either kill someone or for when it was his interactions with Freddy and during the trip to Crystal Lake leading into the finale. Zito, Miner and Stienmann (sp) understood this well when they copied from Cunningham. Keeping Jason to the background until it's time works well.
sCabbOy

Jason X even gave us that, and credit is due... but I saw it as a tease and it aggravated me because we saw that they could have done it old school and could have done a good job.

it's true, Jason is over exposed, but that's what they are selling now ain't it!? Just like in TCM, in the original leatherface apears for a short percentage of the film, but on the remake, he's there most of the time. It really loses in suspense IMO

JX had a good attempt, but it was missing the atmosphere that was prevailant in the earlier films. FvsJ and JGTH almost had it. The failure lies with the scores. Manfredini's early work holds up today in creating the right atmosphere. Synths alone won't cut it, which is why I suggested in the ideal thread to combine some actual insturments with synths. FvsJ weakness was while Grame Revell (sp) is a good composer, we needed more old school music in the film. Both out of Jason and Freddy.
That's why with even the recycling of cues in the third and fourth films, you've still got that atmosphere from the original two films which makes it all the better.

FvsJ weakness was while Grame Revell (sp) is a good composer, we needed more old school music in the film.
The problem with the FvsJ score is that it's pretty much the SAME damned score from "Bride of Chucky". Lazy, lazy.
And I don't know about badmouthing synths... Nightmares 1-6 are all synth. Halloweens 1-2 are synth. It just depends on who you get who knows how to work a synth keyboard.
I can only imagine if Isao Tomita had scored a Nightmare film.

I know that those films were done with synths, but they were always done that way. Save for H20 and whatever other one there was. Friday The 13th wasn't. They were using strings, horns and pianos. Trying to copy that same style to a synth doesn't quite work, which is why JGTH and JX have a decent score, but could've been even better if it had a mixture of the two.

I don't believe it to be a spit in Manfredini's face. I mean, before any of us found out what it was supposed to be, we all thought it was ch...ch...ch...ha...ha...ha...
That's just a by-product of the technology Manfredini employed. Molin, for whatever reason, chose to use a different version. The guy who did it for FvsJ most likely was unaware of Manfredini's intent and just did it to the best of his ability. Unless you pay attention to the first couple of films, you won't understand how it was done.

A lot of the time it's not the director, but the writers. The director goes by the script and when the director wants change it doesn't always get approved.
I think their problem was writers who just wrote a movie. The original script of Part 3 had so many continuity errors. The biggest one z9thankfully it wasn't used) Debbie says to Chris "Well it IS Friday The 13th". Imagine if that was used how bad the timeline would have been effected?

When Jason throws Tina out the window how is he standing on the outside of house ?
And how did he get up there so quick after killing Jimbo ?
I guess the same way on JTM...when he is after McCulloch and McCulloch runs into the abandoned building and then all of a sudden Jason throws him out of the upstairs window when Jason is supposed to be behind him.
He just is....lol.

Didn't Zito say that some scenes were cut that had Jason heading back up there? I know there was a scene cut somewhere that broke continuity. I jsut can't remember where.

I noticed the person in the window when Terri was leaving myself. It depends on which room that was supposed to be. Someone might've gone upstairs to get something.
I think that the thing with Tina getting killed was that it took place a minute or two later, after Jim was killed. Remember that Jason was still moving quite fast at this point in time, so he could walk outside and climb the side of the house pretty quickly. Then all he'd have to do is jump down and walk back inside. As to how he is standing out there, though it doesn't look like it, there is a bit of a ledge for Jason to stand on.

Yeah something is missing there cause when Terri goes to get on bike she yells up at Tina. And it seems like it could be Tina in window talking to her.
Who is in the window up stairs when Terri is getting on her bike ?
That could have been her sister for a moment. Maybe her sister wanted to see if she was actually going to leave. When she was her get on her bike, she went back to business with Jimbo. Then Jason killed the sister.
When Jason throws Tina out the window how is he standing on the outside of house ?
He probably climbed up the side of the house some how. Some houses have the ability to climb up, or maybe there was a ladder laying around that Jason could have used off screen. Then maybe there was a little ledge outside of the window meant for flower pots or something that Jason was standing on.
Take note that later on in the movie when Trish and Rob go to investigate the house there is no body laying on the ground outside of the front door, but there is when Trish is running out of the house. That tells me that Jason placed the body on the roof somewhere and it probaby slipped and fell off as a result of the rain and the roof being all wet and slippery, so there was definitely a way for Jason to get on the roof.
And how did he get up there so quick after killing Jimbo ?
He was already on the ground floor being in the kitchen. All he had to do was go outside and climb up. The girl wasted enough time looking out the window and looking around to give Jason time to get up there.

He said there were a couple scenes filmed where Jason was moving around the house like a shadow which would have explained more of how and why he got rom point A to point B, but those were cut out for the clock.

Just rewatched, easily one of my favorite Friday movies. The ending was rather weak through.

Far from weak IMO,,the other installments definitely have weaker endings..TFC got all what you can ask for, for an ending

Well thats your opinion. I just felt that Trish being in a hospital and hugging Tommy was a weird ending for the "final chapter" in a series.

I agree. Also, there is nothing about TFC that I don't like.
Rob telling Trish he was dying was pretty lousy, but other than that it's awesome.

Yeah... that was really the only thing I can think of in TFC that I wasn't crazy about. Well... that and Jimbo. (nudge nudge) ;)

well...as I've seen many people do stuff like this on the forum
George McFly > Jimbo
no I get embarrassed just watching him
The only horror scene that I get embarassed while watching is Jesse's dance scene in A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2 - Freddy's Revenge when his mother and girl walked in on him. I felt so embarassed for him and for myself watching it. That was just a bad moment in horror history.

Haha yeah. That movie had tons of homoerotic stuff.

That is if you choose to look at it that way, which I do not. The only scene that I just have to skip past is the one I mentioned.

Not even the good old spanking? I just tend to skip to the pool party scene.
The spanking was homosexual because that one character was homosexual, but I don't look at the whole film as being homosexual.

Yesterday I was hanging around with my niece and her boyfriend. They are both 18 and wanted to watch a movie...
Since I haven't seen a F13 in awhile I decided to bring The Final Chapter.
It was fun to see that some scenes still had some great impact on first viewers. Scares like Jason's hand falling down when the Ambulance girl belts him, Sarah in the woods, Tina's death and some other stuff both made them jump. It was fun just to watch their reactions.
Also, at the end when Tommy looks at the screen they were both like "Jason is dead right?! so this boy becomes the killer or what?".

I always have the greatest time seeing first viewers watch F13th movies. Especially the first 4. It's always interesting.

Part 4 really is a brutal film and has a certain energy to it. Even without seeing the others there's a sense of climax, of thigns coming to a head. Jason is pissed in this movie and Tommy is ready... Jason dying at the hands of a child is certainly an interetsing, and very correct, choice that was made.

The best time I have ever had with a first time Friday viewer is watching the original. When Mrs. Voorhees' head comes off, their jaws drop to the floor. Then when Jason jumps out of the lake, their heads hit the ceiling. I love it.

I saw it happen with part 3 as well, when Mrs. V jumps out of the lake...it's always awesome to see people get scared like that!
yeah, it's really fun to watch 'first time watchers' jump and get scared during movies.

The Jason / Pamela jumping out of the lake didn't scare me, but Jason jumping through the window in Part 2 made me jump.

Yeah....I forgot to mention that! I've seen that happen to "first time watchers" a lot. Both "jumping out of the lake" and the jumping through the window scenes can scare people pretty badly....especially the first time viewers.
The Mrs. Voorhees jumping out of the water at the end of Part 3 did not scare me, because I thought it was stupid. The Jason jumping out of the water (Part 1) and through the window (Part 2) I found scary.
By the time part 3 came out, the gag was wearing mighty thin. I'm really glad they dropped it after that.

Jason jumping out of the water scared me cause I was really young when I watched part 1. After that, I was already expecting the "final scary scene", so...I enjoyed them but didn't got scared. What I was saying is that everytime I watch parts 1, 2 or 3 with first time viewers they always get pretty scared when they see those scenes in particular.
I love how 4 ended. With Tommy looking at the camera and the screen fading to white.

I think the ending is bittersweet. The first time I watched a F13th movie was in 1984-5, and of course by then I had no idea how the series would end up. I always wanted Tommy to be the killer. When I saw Part V.I still thought it was Jason though.

Yeah, in part 5 I still thought "Jason" too. I kind'a liked 4's ending. But I don't really like being left hanging! :p

I just think the Part 3 version of the gag was done extremely poorly. I would have liked them to leave the Part 7 gag though. That was a good one. The Mrs. V. thing would have been a lot better if she was headless. It would have cost them less on make-up too.

That gag should have never been done more than twice. Part 1 and 2 did it well, that's it. However, the gag where Jason appears in the cabin worked well. That should have been the extent.

I agree. Seeing Jason in the window was a very creepy moment and should have been left at that. That may be my only gripe about the entire film.
I actually did like Part 3's gag as a story element making it seem like the area was haunted by the spirit of Mrs. V. as well as Jason, but I wish the body was either headless or translucent to be more ghastly rather then just seeming like a Mrs. V zombie.
I liked the story element, I just did not like how they exicuted it on screen.
